35 years ago, Tom Kirchhoff led Cedar Cliff to a state title football game, becoming a local legend.
Today, 8 years after Tom passed from ALS,
@GoCHAthletics

@kirchhoff_ty
will play for a state title himself, keeping him with him every step of the way:
Woke up this morning heartbroken. A tragedy occurred in Durham, North Carolina. A man wearing a blue tank top… jumped up on a table… and waved at a crowd of people.
My thoughts are with Jon Scheyer, Kyle Filipowski and all those affected by these heinous acts by Blake Hinson.

officers were quarantined Friday after an arrestee claimed he had tested positive for the coronavirus to avoid going to jail. BPD says the man tested negative and the officers are back to work
I understand it's overly-simplistic, but Jamie Dixon making the NCAA tournament 14 times in 19 seasons coaching at only Pitt and TCU is nuts.
Just such a good college basketball coach.
I wonder sometimes how much longer Pitt fans are gonna waste Saturdays watching a football program that rarely catches a break, rarely creates its own luck, and rarely lives up to expectations, all on a network that the primary cable provider in Pennsylvania refuses to provide.
There has not been a single day during Jeff Capel's entire tenure where you could watch Pitt play a basketball game and think to yourself "this team looks well-prepared and well-coached."
Year five.
Heather Lyke:
> Got rejected by option A
> Reportedly was pressured by donors to hire someone entangled in FBI investigation
> Let no info leak, painting her as clueless/inactive
...and made a universally well-received hire two days after the coach's season ended.
Pretty good.
The O wasn't "good" in the sense of "this food tastes really good" or "this is reasonably priced for the quality" or "this place looks even remotely clean."
Still, can't imagine Oakland without it, and it stinks to imagine another bougie, artisanal joint replacing that corner.
EVERY YEAR
"Football is back!"
<Week one of college football is a lot of fun>
"Heck yeah, now time for some NFL"
<Opening Thursday Night game comes>
"I never want to watch football again."
Pitt spent an entire week talking about how much they trust/believe in Phil Jurkovec, then pretty much scream to a national audience "we do not trust/believe in Phil Jurkovec"
Pitt is a horrible football team, but some of the calls that have gone against them this year have crossed the threshold past "comical" to "laugh out loud"
Pitt
First four: team Ben Howland built
First round: team that kicked off Blake Hinson
Second round: Sean Miller, school is literally called Xavier
Sweet 16: Marcus Carr
Elite 8: Xavier Johnson’s team
Final 4: Jamie Dixon’s TCU
Title game: Fairleigh Dickinson rematch
I don't think it's guaranteed the next Pitt head coach would have as much success as Pat Narduzzi has had. But it really seems like it's time to try to run into a home run hire rather than accepting what I'd classify as a bloop single after six years.
The year is 2071.
The NCAA is long extinct, with college athletics now being governed by computer programs.
Due to global warming, UConn is in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, while Pitt is where Georgia once was.
Dan Hurley is still mulling his options.
Sources: Pitt star WR Jordan Addison is expected to appear in the NCAA transfer portal later this afternoon. He’s yet to make up his mind on a destination and there’s no expectation of an imminent decision. More details...
Frank Cignetti's uncreative playcalling is one thing, but the fact his players don't seem to even know his uncreative plays is probably an even bigger issue.
I don't know what Pat Narduzzi has to do, but if he gets fined, he probably has to take a fine. Maybe even Heather Lyke too. Those are two inexcusable replay reviews that could end up costing his team a football game in a fairly make-or-break season for him.
I'll just say it's very cool to see Tyler Boyd as a team captain on a Super Bowl team.
Was never more convinced a Pitt freshman was an NFL player than his college debut against 2013 FSU.
Has there been a single game in Frank Cignetti's 16-game tenure at Pitt where it's felt like he has had a leg up on a defensive coordinator that wasn't at an immense talent disadvantage?
I cannot think of many good reasons why Pitt shouldn't give Charlie Partridge the reins for the rest of the year.
If it goes well, maybe you have something. If it doesn't, maybe Pitt can actually assemble a staff where every coordinator and head coach isn't 60+ years old.
Annnnnd Juelz Goff answers right back. The Pitt commit’s fifth touchdown of the game gives Central York a 38-28 lead over CD on a 62-yard score with 7:23 left. Just hit another gear.
Goff: 26 rushes, 224 yards, 5 TDs (and four catches for 20 yards)
And here’s newly minted James Madison Duke OL
@EvanBushong
, who chatted about sticking with his commitment despite head coach Curt Cignetti’s departure, as he joins the Mid Penn -> JMU pipeline.
I, for one, think it would be pretty dumb for Pitt fans to be jerks to Cam Johnson, who left Pitt because he <checks notes> didn't want to play for a coach who every single Pitt fan despised?
In retrospect, his departure actually expedited Pitt ending up with Jeff Capel.
Pitt:
> a false start followed by a delay of game
> illegal formation on a punt return
> failed challenge on an obvious fumble, losing a timeout
> 3-4 wide open drops
> 4-5 15-yard penalties
> 4 red zone field goals, including one to cut deficit from 12 to 9
It's art.
FINAL: State College 42,
@CASDAthletics
40
State College wins on a buzzer-beating floater by Oliver Kile in a scramble.
Tyler Collier had 20 in the loss. Trojans fall to 2-2 on the season.
Watching Wisconsin’s Jump Around only makes it that much more insane Pitt decided to make its “song” a boring ballad that is already nationally associated with one of the most famous sports franchises in America.
@seangentille
They've been doing so much misdirection in these trailers that not only will C3PO not be dying in the actual movie, but in fact will be Double Alive.
With that said, on Monday, I’ll be joining the team at
@PennLive
as a high school sports reporter.
Super excited to get to work with
@SportsByBLinder
and the rest of the
@Pa_Preps
squad!
"Kenny Pickett looked bad" in 2018: Literally 8 passing yards, two interceptions in a 32-point loss
"Kenny Pickett looked bad" in 2021: 340 yards and 4 TDs in a 10-point win
Just absolutely astounding at age 77 how much better Bill Raftery is at basketball color commentary than every other person not named Bill Walton on the planet.
Penn State had tons of success hiring a bald ex-Vanderbilt coach to run their football program.
Wonder if there are any guys who fit that bill for basketball?
Kenny Pickett is exciting and all, but if Ricky Town ever plays for Pitt, the Panthers will be able to field a "Town Hall" backfield.
Pat Narduzzi has to consider these kind of things.
Quick chat with

@Stone_Saunders8
(314 pass yds, 5 total TDs) about if they have the best WR group in the state, facing deficits and more after a 47-21 win over La Salle.
