We did it! Thanks to PAIN + the book of Patrick Radden Keefe and the other journalists who’ve kept this in the news. Our 1st protest was in the MET 4 years ago + now the MET is the 1st in America to do the right thing! We wait for the other museums who carry their name to follow.
The Sackler family paid $75 million in the Oklahoma settlement today which admits their culpability. By the way, that’s only 0.2% of the $35 billion in profits they made from OxyContin
Breaking News: Third Circuit ruled yesterday that it is a federal crime to open a supervised injection site for safe drug use. Even though we know there has never been a fatal overdose in any SCS worldwide. This is essential harm reduction to save lives.
My proudest name placement. “Nan“ is an FTIR Machine to test the drug supply in order to keep ppl safe. This is in the home of
@nc_usu
thanks to all who bought my prints in May 2020 thru
@MarianGoodman
. These machines belong in the hands of harm reductionists all ovr the country
Breaking news! The Sackler Trust UK just announced they are no longer going to give $ to museums,institutions, etc!Before more can refuse. Congrats to the 2 in London. I regret the money they needed but the source is too corrupted

Exciting news‼️ I’ll be speaking before the SACKLER Act hearing this Tuesday, June 8 at
@RepMaloney
press conference.This bill is the only thing that can prevent them from walking away rich and w/o accountability. We must call on our elected officials to support The SACKLER Act!
I've started a group called P.A.I.N. (Prescription Addiction Intervention Now) in response to the opioid crisis by putting pressure on the Sackler empire and Purdue Pharma to move their billions into treatment. Join us and sign our petition.
#painsackler
This ruling was made without any input from harm reductionists. All the media is focused on the counting in the senate and continued violence of the insurrection. Let's not let stigma allow this to be swept under the radar.

My performance captured the natural born bitch that I am. How could I not love making a cameo on a show by my hero? The man who introduced me to tv. And all the brilliant people he’s gathered around him. Once you see the lights, there’s no going back to Silver Spring
What do you have to do to get the great Nan Goldin to do a big fat meta-cameo on your television drama? You have to study her photographs of 1970s Times Square and inject the raw DNA into your film sets, your wardrobe department, your hair and makeup trailer, your story & themes.
Now the Sackler name is truly tarnished! From Shame on SACKLER to The Sackler Act!!! The Congressional Oversight Commitee is naming a bill after the family as bad actors being shielded in court and likely being granted immunity from future charges
In 3 days NPG+ Tate in London and Guggenheim, NY have publicly shut out the Sacklers! And more comes to light- The South London Gallery,Univ of Washington even a hedge fund! refused their dirty billions! Let’s watch the dominos fall!
@sacklerpain
Judge Drain- we will not forgive or forget their crimes or this egregious miscarriage of justice In 9 years the Sacklers get their naming rights back. Let’s hope museums + universities won’t be so starved that they’ll forget where their money came from or their legacy
Wednesday, July 14th at 4pm is the deadline for personal injury claimants to vote yes or no to Purdue Pharma’s restructuring plan. I would never vote yes to anything that grants the Sackler family and all their friends lifelong immunity. Thread 👇
It’s ironic to think that the Sackler name is plastered to wash the blood off their hands, and this machine bearing my name, is saving lives. ‘Nan ‘is aptly named - it’s even more critical and analytical than it’s namesake. Here’s me testing Nan with

All the museum’s move are major!NPG was 1st! Tate is massively important in art world- many branches thruout England. As is Guggenheim who were 1st in America!! I’m so proud of them deciding to be on the right side of history
Real respect to
@NPGLondon
for doing the right thing, and to
@nangoldin1
and everyone else who, often at real personal cost, made the case that art shouldn't be funded from opioid profits:
It’s shocking how older women are treated in this country. Invisible and lacking any credibility. A certain contempt by young people.. I’ve learned to embrace my invisibility. No one suspects me of any misdemeanors
This is brilliant!! And !! All the faces of Richard Sackler by 4 great actors!Cranston, Keaton, Kind, Williams. So smart!Thank you John Oliver! We are honored by your reference to our action
@sacklerpain
@LelenaPeacock
@nabarund
Pain was never anti opioid. We were wrongly construed. Opiates are the gold standard for pain and have been for centuries. We’re fighting opioid profiteers who’ve exploited yr pain. We never wanted drs to stop prescribing
Can you imagine their profits off Sackler rehabs?We want their $ taken away from them. For the communities hard hit,Harm Reduction, education, the groups on the ground saving lives. Free nalaxone. Free medications. Safe consumption sites. End the stigma
@sacklerpain
@LAKauffman
The Sacklers own 100s of companies worldwide. They are addicting the world- So America, Europe, China , etc. it’s a tragedy!! I wish some intrepid journalist would dig into this
@Crazy
Nan Goldin
Laura Poitras is one of America’s most fearless & honest journalists. Someone who actually cares about sustaining democracy. It’s terrifying to learn that the CIA spied on her, labeling her an “information broker” and “agent of a foreign power.”
This article deserves to be read.
Another appalling outcome is the issue of the Sackler name being emblazoned on all their favorite museums and universities. The charitable donations will not include their name until they’ve paid their debt in full. That means we’ve tarnished their legacy, but only for a decade.
“You won’t believe how committed I am to make OxyContin a huge success. It is almost that I dedicated my life to it. After the initial launch phase, I will have to catch up with my private life again.” - Richard Sackler
This is true evil
How can MoMA stand by Leon Black, a man aligned with Epstein who was responsible for the sex trafficking of teenage girls? Once again museums show they value money more than artists, the community, and their ethical mandate.
Given revelations that Leon Black paid Jeffrey Epstein $158 million, some art world activists are calling for Black to step down or be removed as chairman of MoMA
For those of you following the Sacklers don’t miss the Congressional hearings from Dec 17. On YouTube. Brilliant questioning by the Congress people like Jim Cooper who called them the most evil family in America and Ayanna Presley who holds them responsible for fanning the
It’s important we don’t get distracted by focusing on the controversial personalities of Assange & Greenwald, and remember that this is ultimately about freedom of the press, which is at great risk all over the world!
This new report highlights that the prosecution of Julian Assange poses a grave threat to press freedom.
We’ll say it again: The government needs to drop its charges against him.
Thank you for making me aware of this. Safe Consumption Sites are one of the most effective answers to the overdose crisis. And to the endless War of Drugs. Keeping people alive with compassion .
@sacklerpain
@VOCALNewYork
Yes it is too true that there is so much dirty $ donated to museums+ universities. I hope action will get ever more present against arm dealers and climate destroyers!

How could this exit in the east river so close and we didn’t realize? The people inside are being held in inhuman conditions! Now we know thanks to
@laurapoitras
and
#seanvegezzi
and @ TakeBackTheBX. It’s an emergency !! Fires inside! Please share
My group PAIN is being misrepresented as anti-Opiod. As pushing for doctors to stop prescribing. This is not our agenda. We of course support pills for pain not for profit. Drs need to be retrained to prescribe correctly and to maintain responsibility to those who need Opiods
One justice system for billionaires and one for the rest of us. 46% of people incarcerated in america are in for “drug
offenses” many for selling small amounts. But these people are about to be granted immunity?!?
Thanks for your homage to our blizzard at the Guggenheim! But we did clean up the scripts- didn’t leave for the crew! All the Richard Sacklers got it down!! Still laughing. And ever more horrified
@sacklerpain
Orson Welles had a BBC show in 1955 and spent an entire episode talking massive amounts of shit about police, suggesting an international union as protection against them, the man simply could not stop being a legend.
There were no clinics. It was entirely underground , most practitioners weren’t drs.,you had to know someone to hook you up. A lot of women died. Now Texas is taking it to a new level
@LelenaPeacock
@nabarund
Thank you Lelena for this! I’m very touched. It was lovely to meet you. And to be able to express my support for you and others living in chronic pain. You gave me that chance.
@VOCALNewYork
@RichAzzopardi
This is the most cynical reprehensible twist i could never imagine!! 200 people are dying a day!! Is this the new language they use to negate protest!?! And to hide behind? It won’t work
Listen to Judge Drain , in his endless dirge announcing the compromised settlement of the bankruptcy case ,claim this case is Not about the Sacklers and the press should know better!!!
Meanwhile, while climate change came to NY and Texas made history off women’s bodies, the Sacklers escaped all justice thanks to a morally bankrupt court . 51/2 hours of Judge Drain droning his settlement that gave them everything they wanted.
The great Nan Goldin, whose art is embedded in the DNA of our television drama, tonight delivered a cameo appearance & use of her magnificent photos on the stage set of a bar where she once worked and chronicled humanity. Today on
#TheDeuce
was a good day.
Nearly 50 years ago! Roe vs Wade came out of a Texas court. Most of the Supreme Court was appointed by Republicans. But not so rabidly anti-life as our current court. 1000s of women died. Our bodies were expendable .this country is big on repeating its worst histories
We will see the Sacklers speak their lies in Congress thanks to the legacy of the great Elijah Cummings and now the Oversight Committee along with the unrelenting office of Maura Healey. Keep up the good fight!
The Sacklers and 1,000+ of their friends, family members and businesses will be given immunity from all opioid-related lawsuits in the future. This ultra-rich family is being given broad legal protections despite NEVER going bankrupt themselves. This is justice for sale.
New documents filed Wednesday show that Purdue explicitly put a price tag on overdose and death. Their consulting firm McKinsey proposed giving rebates to insurance companies when someone had overdosed on Oxy. This $$ would not go to victims, however. 1/2
This is my most radical presentation yet. Don’t miss it! 2 brilliant early films about women taking over the world. Born in Flames by Lizzie Borden & S.C.U.M. Manifesto by Delphine Seyrig. Introduced by me this Sat night at 8pm only. See you there (I wish)
@IsiahMagsino
The Titanic sinking while the band played on. - great quote. Was I the only one applauding them? People were rabid. Proving they care more about their luxuries than the planet burning
So inspired to be on the ground with
@VOCALNewYork
and
@TruthPharm
who are the loudest,proudest advocates for all people effected by this crisis and offer the solutions if the powers that be would hear us
@sacklerpain
Once again I had the pleasure of being a guest programmer at Metrograph These movies are a must see!! One has never been shown in US.!! They’re beautiful and radical. I have an interview with the filmmaker after
Now it’s bankruptcy court which they and their million dollar lawyers have corrupted. Next it will be civil immunity and likely criminal. Unless The Sackler Act gets passed!! We need to reach out to our Congress members and Senators ! Hopefully it will stop other bad actors too
I don’t want to believe that we didn’t succeed in tarnishing their legacy indefinitely. We need to remember what the Sackler name really means.
#ShameOnSackler
@sacklerpain
Another brilliant article by Christopher Glazek about the Opioid Crisis. He was one of the 1st ever to bust the Sacklers in Esquire in 2017.
50% more deaths to come?? What are we going to do? We all must act.
@sacklerpain
@VOCALNewYork
flames of the failed Drug War. A number asked for criminal charges against the family not just against their company . My question now is how does any museum or institution sustain their relationship with them now? Either by accepting funding or keeping their names up
If they did nothing wrong as their statement says why are members of the Family named in 500 lawsuits in states in US. And about 2,000 against Purdue their private pill company
@sacklerpain
@patrickraddenkeefe
@LAKauffman
Much love & respect to

This has so much to do with their and her work!
We’re always here for y’all!
My NO vote will likely be in the minority, but it’s important to take a stand and say that this process has been illegitimate from the start. I will always vote NO to anything that lets the Sacklers off the hook.
Don’t be fooled by the money they’re “giving,” to be paid over the next decade. It’s nothing compared to the wealth they’ve amassed. They’ve gotten even richer throughout the pandemic during their “bankruptcy” protection.
Need to pay homage to Christopher Glazek - he was one of the 1st journalists to bust the Sackler Empire in Esquire in fall 2017. Read him now.- the Biblical flood the Sacklers have unleashed! Brilliant and too true
@seeglazek

Personal injury claimants who acquired Oxy off the street will have their claims thrown out, even though the Sacklers vast wealth was created from flooding the market (pill mills, overprescribing). THEY KNEW!
The Sacklers are claiming that this crisis is all about fentanyl. Fentanyl hit the market around 2012. What about all the hundreds of thousands of overdoses before that?
In a crass article entitled "How will British museums survive if they subject every donor to an ethical audit?" Mark Lawson accuses activists like
@nangoldin1
of being "new puritans" conducting "ethical cleansing"! He doesn't have a problem with
#Sackler
!
It is not correct for Drs to cut people off Opiods w/o recourse . If to be stopped they need to titrate with compassion in concert with the patient. Most of all we support MAT being widely available and at low cost. And SIFs being legalized and accessible
@sacklerpain

The filmmaker is Augustina Comedi. She’s a pleasure to listen to-she’s very eloquent about the past and present reality of queer life in Argentina. Her films are poetic and political
Until the Sacklers have paid off the settlement, they’re barred from new naming rights for their charity donations. But, in a decade, they’ll be able to use their name on institutions to prop up their reputation again.
