Fascinating piece in the Sunday Times yesterday about Boris Johnson and the oligarchs. It seems he intervened personally with the secret services to ensure his pal Lebedev got a lordship. The implication was that Johnson is a Russian asset. It would certainly explain Brexit etc.

They are saying on the news that the three great rose windows at Notre Dame have survived. Damaged but intact. That is truly wonderful news. The soaring stone and the rose windows were the stand out gothic achievements of Notre Dame. A small mercy, but a mercy nevertheless.

Art isn't as natural a vehicle for expressing love as music. I can't think of a painting that does what 'Make you Feel My Love' does, or 'River Deep, Mountain High'. Love in art doesn't get inside you in the same way. But that's not to say it never tries!

I've just found out that Georgiana Houghton who painted these IN THE 186os, and who preceded Kandinsky by HALF A CENTURY in the creation of abstraction, lived downstairs from me! Same address! She was a spiritualist through whom the 'undead' conveyed their art. Blue plaque!

I’ve come late to the Diana statue. It is, of course, ghastly. Sleek, ingratiating, lacking originality. The artist, Ian Broadley-Rank, has done to Diana what the makers of football statues do to footballers: get them all wrong. Shame on you royal brothers for not aiming higher!

Art historians have discovered a new painting by Edvard Munch called The Glare. Painted at the same time as his masterpiece The Scream it shows a skull like face, distorted with malice and anger. 'I was trying capture the spirit of the times', explained Munch to his psychiatrist.

So here it is art lovers! The 'lost Caravaggio' that was found in an attic in Toulouse in 2014, and is on show at Colnaghi's in London until March 9. Is it right? Looks like it to me. And it's certainly a fabulous painting by a strong hand. Dark. Thrilling. Murderous. Love it!
