CU Apartheid Divest calls upon Columbia University to divest its endowment from companies that profit from Israel's violations of Palestinian human rights. 🇵🇸
The People of Hind's Hall have spoken: "We took Hamilton Hall because it belongs to us. We took it because we refuse to remain compliant in the face of an American-led genocide of the Palestinian people."
@newinquiry
Minouche Shafik requests maintained NYPD presence on Columbia’s campus through at least May 17th. This administration would rather militarize its community than divest from the genocidal State of Israel.
Columbia University PhD students walk out in protest at Graduation!! As every university in Gaza has been destroyed, we must use our educations to speak truth to power. No business as usual during a genocide. ❤️🔥

PRESS RELEASE: Zionist Driver Runs Down Peaceful Pro-Palestinian Demonstration in Manhattan Street. Columbia University students picketed outside of trustee homes in protest of Columbia’s complicity in genocide.
Caterpillar bulldozer breached NYPD barricade set up to kettle protestors outside Columbia. Reminder that Columbia University invests in Caterpillar, the company which manufactures bulldozers used to demolish Palestinian homes and crush Palestinians to death in Gaza.
🚨BREAKING: Columbia University students form a human chain to protect the protestors who have occupied Hamilton Hall - which has now been renamed HIND’S HALL. 🇵🇸
To every professor who has expressed shock at the events of last night: if you do not take action to demand divestment and an end to police presence on campus by withholding your labor, you too are complicit. You must do more than make statements. You must strike.
WHO WE ARE:
Columbia University Apartheid Divest (CUAD) is a coalition of over 100+ student orgs fighting for a liberated Palestine and the end of Columbia's complicity in genocide.
This article is inaccurate, CUAD was not contacted. We do not receive outside funding from the Tides Foundation, Gates Foundation, etc. Palestine Legal provides legal support, not financial support. Students bought items in bulk from places like Costco to save money.
Union Theological Seminary, a private, ecumenical school that serves as Columbia University’s faculty of theology but maintains a separate, $127 million endowment, is the first U.S. institute of higher education known to divest from the war in Gaza.
"Arrested students characterized their punishments as minor compared to the suffering that the Palestinians of Gaza are enduring. They all allege Israel is carrying out a genocide that they say they have a moral obligation to try to stop."
We stand with our peers at the CUNY Gaza Solidarity Encampment and against NYPD’s violence towards student protestors. All eyes on
@Cuny4P
&
@cunygse
.
CUNY is the people’s school & right now they’re under siege. but the arguments won’t be the same, the coverage won’t be the same, & the assault won’t be the same, it will be worse. holding our CUNY brothers & sisters up at City College in strong solidarity tonight
IfNotNow was not involved in campus protests and has not provided financial support. Many students at Columbia enjoy the outdoors and already had items such as sleeping bags, tents, etc on hand.
We encourage reporters to talk to students before printing inaccurate information.
Do not grade exams. Do not teach classes. Our universities which put profit over life must grind to a halt until our demands are met: Divestment, disclosure, an end to campus militarization, and amnesty for all. The student revolution will help free Palestine within our lifetime.
NYPD and Eric Adams said there were “no injuries” during the Hind Hall raid. They lied.
“The documented injuries included a fractured eye socket, concussions, an ankle sprain, cuts, and injured wrists and hands from tight plastic flexicuffs.”
Students were choked and received concussions from police officers. K-9 dogs were used against these students. Horrific violence at SUNY New Paltz by law enforcement.
New York State Police arrested more than 100 pro-Palestine protesters Thursday night at an encampment on the SUNY New Paltz campus. On Friday afternoon students responded by walking out of class and demonstrated in front of the administration building.
@ShiaKapos
@politico
None of the organizations you listed provided financial support to CUAD. Students purchased items in bulk and used what they already had. We encourage reporters to talk to students before printing inaccurate information.
🚨EMERGENCY CALL TO ACTION FOR PALESTINE 🇵🇸
🗓️THURSDAY MAY 23RD @ 6PM
📍116th Street & Broadway
Join us to demand accountability and protest the Zionist entity’s chokehold on Mayor Adams, the IOF-NYPD, and Columbia University.
From the General Assembly, we salute the students of Columbia University and millions of students from all creeds, and faiths, and race, in the biggest cities and the most remote villages, fighting for a future with Palestine and for a future for Palestine.
@ColumbiaSJP
"Based on estimates of the size of the police force and the cost per officer, New York spent at least $200,000 on overtime alone for the four-hour raid to clear Hind Hall, according to an analysis by The Intercept"
We welcome those who have just been awakened by our student movement, but we stress that our solidarity with the Palestinian people explicitly means supporting their right to return and right to resist occupation by all means. The thawabit guides our fight, now and forever🇵🇸🍉.
Faculty Statement on Imminent Police Action at Columbia University
The American Association of University Professors, Columbia University Chapter
For immediate release: April 30, 2024, 8:00pm
At this hour, the NYPD is massing on barricaded streets outside the gates of Columbia
"We chose Hamilton Hall [now Hind Hall] to say we build on the work of our elders, we center them and we are grateful for them for what they have already done, and confronting the university in a different time."
UN Special Rapporteur: “I am deeply troubled by arrests, detentions, police violence, surveillance and disciplinary measures against members of the educational community exercising their right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression."

Structural racism means
@BarnardCollege
being more invested in "dialogue and discourse" than in the 39 children and adults assassinated in Gaza Strip by the Israeli army.

To justice and divest
We believe in collective liberation and believe that all systems of oppression are interlinked. We keep each other safe. We refuse to accept a world where the mass slaughter of Palestinians is viewed as acceptable, normal, and profitable.
Investment is a stance: there's no way to tip toe around that. Students want the murder of Palestinians to stop, Barnard wants us to calmly discuss while our money continues flowing to Lockheed Martin

"A group of protesters who gathered on Tuesday to urge Columbia University to divest from Israel said a man intentionally drove his car into their group, hospitalizing one person."
According to
@theintercept
, "The cost of paying NYPD overtime, on average, is $100 per hour per officer". This number is based on an estimate from the New York City Comptroller's office.

@ColumbiaBDS
efforts to pass a BDS resolution
@BarnardCollege
is troubling, as

runs counter to the free exchange of ideas & dialogue on campus. We hope the community will recommit themselves to the open exchange of ideas on campus.
The Barnard administration has announced its intentions to refuse to abide by the democratic vote of its students, calling on the college to divest its funds from 8 companies complicit in Israeli settler colonialism
People will insist you have out-sized power when they want to blame you for something but deem you insignificant when they don't want to reckon with your concerns.
“The story is what’s happening to the people in Gaza and United States complicity and Columbia University’s complicity,” he said. “And the other piece of the story is the courage of Columbia University students in refusing to be complicit. And I was there to support that.”
“The overall number of fatalities that has been tallied by the Ministry of Health in Gaza, which is our counterpart on dealing with the death tolls. That number remains unchanged…What’s changed is..the breakdown of fatalities.”

"A man who got into an argument with pro-Palestinian demonstrators before hitting one with his car on the Upper East Side of Manhattan on Tuesday has been charged with assault, according to the police."
Zionists have spent all day spreading lies about the United Nations “halving” the number of dead in Gaza; to them, the murders of 20,000 civilians, mostly children, is a cause to celebrate. Clearly, they are not above genocide denial.
“And the Ministry of Health says that the documentation process of fully identifying details of the casualties is ongoing. Meanwhile, as you can see, if you do the math, that there’s about another 10,000-plus bodies who still have to be fully identified.”
“So, what they recently published was that they gave figures for 24,686 out of 34,622 overall fatalities recorded in Gaza. And those 24,686 people are the ones for whom full details have been documented — in other words, people who have been fully identified.”
This man oversaw a mass pogrom of Muslims in 2002 -- and then was elected for it. Perhaps Hindutva islamophobia may have encouraged condemnation, but the "silence" we got was total admiration.
Indian PM Modi should be ashamed to allow this kind of photo at today's G20 summit without a peep from him about the Saudi crown prince's role in Jamal Khashoggi's murder or in the bombing and starving of Yemeni civilians.
“We, our teams in Gaza, are unable to independently verify these figures, given the situation on the ground and the continuing combat and the sheer number of fatalities. And so, we cite the Ministry of Health as the source for our figures.”
A student group, Columbia University Apartheid Divest, disputed the police’s account, saying in a statement that Mr. Kahane drove up to the protesters in his car and asked for a flier before “grabbing the protester’s arm.”
