Since October 2014, more than 34,000 children arrived in Maryland after crossing the U.S. border alone.
They often face immigration proceedings alone, speak little English and cannot afford an attorney.
But efforts are underway to make the process more humane nationwide.

Jesus Campos, a construction worker who knows the crew, said the men were from Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Mexico. They are in their 30s and 40s and have spouses and children.
โThey are hard-working, humble men,โ he said.

Divers have recovered the body of another construction worker.
His name was Maynor Suazo Sandoval. The family rose from poverty because of him, his cousin Hector said. He was a pillar of the family and always full of joy.

As a DoorDash driver, Justin McCarty often took the Key Bridge route between 11pm and 3 a.m.
Thinking he had already worked too much, his girlfriend hid his keys so he wouldnโt go.
