Some personal news for this Friday...
Monday starts my final week at KTIV. After that, I am moving home to Kansas City to work for KSHB 41 News. Thank you to all my Siouxland viewers and KTIV family. Not enough characters to express my gratitude. June 30 is my last day.
Chiefs fans!! This is Amy Merhlich from Indiana. She worked a lot of overtime to buy a ticket to her first Chiefs game. She camped out overnight and is looking to see her favorite

Here is the Pacheco special at Pegah’s (add cheese to the eggs), he orders this for pickup almost every game day — we’re live talking with Chiefs fans as they fuel up to cheer their team on in the AFC Championship.

Cielito Lindo, a Mexican restaurant in DT Lawrence, was destroyed by a fire overnight. Crews are still on scene since the call came in around 11:40pm.

Four years... now I’m turning in my last assignments online and sending my professors my final well wishes. Here’s my thank you to Old Missouri. Finally, I am

This morning, we continue our team coverage of yesterday’s shooting. I will be speaking with
@QuintonLucasKC
at 6:30, before our show ends.
KC — it is okay to turn off the TV and close social media. Breathe. This is heavy. But please do not completely turn away from what has
Warmed up with some
@MiamiDolphins
fans at
@GEHAField
— got their take on the weather and if they ever thought of turning around back to sunny Miami.

If you are trying to reach a loved one who was at Union Station — be patient. Lots of people trying to use cell phone signal. It took me 15 minutes to hear from my family who was there.
Leaving KCI this morning, I heard my parking attendant saying something to something. I looked in closer and saw she had this tiny little kitten. Meet Spirit. Carol rescued her after she says someone dumped Spirit in the airport parking garage.
There is a street in Blue Springs with 20 14ft inflatable Santas… and these neighbors love it. I’m sharing their effort to spread holiday cheer and grow their neighborly bond from 6-8AM on

8 years ago I got my first job at the local
@sonicdrivein
. I remember telling my coworkers someday I was going to be a TV reporter. Flash forward to today, I'm in my first week on-air at my true dream job. 🥹
Had
@WildcatTVNews
student Camryn Blackwell shadow me this morning — so fun to have her tag along to my live shots and further her experience in the broadcast world. She even helped us make some social videos! Wildcat TV is where I found my spark just like Cam. 💜💛

We’re here!!
@cpkcstadium
is ready to welcome 11k+ fans today for KC Current’s first match in the new stadium. Tune in to
@KSHB41
for coverage of opening day.
Couldn’t keep me off the weekends for long — I’m at the anchor desk this AM! Grab your cup of coffee and let’s catch up on the weekend news and look at the week ahead.
It was our first Opening Day, but also the first time in a long time these two
@mujschool
grads (‘20,’22) got to be live together. I always love a day that involves

Pretty fitting my first story in KC is on property assessment appeals. We have the details on a few workshops here in Waldo that are a great resource for Jackson Co. residents needing help.
Onboarding at your new job is great until you get to the “watch these 500 modules on safety and compliance” part and one is about hurricanes but you live in the middle of the country???????

Just read to a second grade class at
@FortOsageSchool
Blue Hills Elementary — they were so sweet! Very attentive to Arnie the Doughnut and had great questions about my job. We ❤️ reading!

Happy
#RedWednesday
to those who celebrate.
#ChiefsKingdom
Union Station is just one of the locations you can get your Red Wednesday flag ahead of tomorrow’s home opener.

Not every story is going to be the lead story -- but this was a memorable shoot for me just trying to figure out a dance with this shop owner. See more on the ever-changing art in Liberty, MO Saturday AM!
My parents back in KC made a special

We were some of the first to ride the newly wrapped

Missouri Athletics is facing backlash after tweeting this yesterday. They later took it down and apologized, but not before some took issue with it.

The
#BeyInKC
display at Union Station is bound to be a hot spot this morning ahead of Beyoncé’s concert tonight. We’ve already had a few people in the last 10 min stop in for a quick pose!

Last week, we laid my grandma to rest. One of the main reasons I moved home was to be closer to her as her health declined.
She was one of the kindest people who prayed for everyone she came across. You always had a friend in my Grandma Ruby. Our family will miss her so much.
A side note: this couple is originally from Sioux City where I worked and called home for the last three years
@ktivnews
. So sharing their story means a lot to me and I was so happy to connect with them.
Bob and Sami Whyldgrr were married at the Chiefs parade, hours before a mass shooting took place.
KSHB 41's
@claire_ontheair
spoke with the couple, who is doing their best to imagine their wedding as a little bit of light on a dark day.
Lots to be thankful for, like finding my first gray hair this morning. It serves as a reminder that life is short and that I also need to start paying more attention to my roots.
Ahead of the Super Bowl, I had the opportunity/pleasure to meet Howard McHenry. He is an OG
#Chiefs
Red Coater with the memory of an elephant. I could’ve done a 10 minute story on him, but these two minutes will have to do.
Not pictured — my glove liners, hand/feet warmers, and I’ll have that hood/neck cover pulled up once I’m actually outside. I was sweating by the final product 🫠
I am in Marshall where Missouri Valley College was put on lockdown twice for an active shooting near campus. Police have confirmed one person is dead and two are injured. I am working to get more information from police about what happened here today.

Riding the
@kcstreetcar
for the first time this morning. We are discussing proposed legislation to give it its own lane along main from Pershing to 51st. Plus, other legislation to promote safety. Join us at 6:30 and 7 AM.

I was talking with parade spectators this morning about how special KC is. About how the people who call this city home are some of the best around. Confetti was flying. This is not the time to forget that our city can be better than this. I’m sorry this is how our celebratory
Today, I attended the funeral of a homeless veteran. He was given full military honors yet so little is known about who he was.
Tomorrow morning I’m highlighting the program that got this vet “home” before Christmas…and how they want to continue to help more.

Inside an old warehouse in the east bottoms is a hydroponic farm. Urban Bounty Farms is trying to curb urban blight by putting sustainable food sources in empty buildings.

We’re driving around KC this morning on
@KSHB41
— definitely can tell these plows worked on the main roads as we’re getting around fairly easily. What are you seeing in your neighborhood this morning?
One of our plow crews getting ready for the night shift. Great people from Parks, Neighborhoods, Public Works, Water, and Health will be pretreating and plowing Kansas City roads all night. Our 24 hr operation hits every street curb to curb with 300+ trucks and 400+ drivers.
When people walk around the Liberty Farmers Market this AM (you should stop in) they will be treated to a variety of sculptures. This one was so popular it’s year the city bought it to sit at city hall. Giving Humpty Dumpty vibes!
@KSHB41
UPDATED REEL ALERT! It's been a busy time of coverage and graduation is coming up fast. It's times like these that I know I picked the right career. Here is a fresh look at what I have been working on the last couple months!
At the time of this picture, I thought I would spend the day after the parade doing a wrap up of our coverage, maybe cleanup or memorable moments from players. Today is so different.
RIGHT NOW: the men and women of Shelter KC gather for a sunrise service this Easter. Journey Church from Liberty has volunteers to help serve breakfast and lead the service.
@KSHB41
I got one of the best "state school" educations I could've wanted at Mizzou. I am so proud I will be able to say in a month I am
#MizzouMade
and have been looking forward to it for 4 years. Some people aren't as fortunate to have an amazing college education AND experience.
Still chuckling in my head about a viewer who told me today how much he loves watching our news (NBC affiliate) but he’s gotta watch
#DWTSPremiere
on ABC tonight. I told him it’s okay, I cheat sometimes, too😉
