First report from my brother at the US Mid-Am: "Half the guys on the range are acting like it's the US Open, and the other half are taking work calls. It's awesome"
All the “physicist” and “his caddy needs to be an aerospace engineer” stuff is an insult to actual physicists and aerospace engineers. They can do actual math and engineering, anyone with two eyes and/or two feet can read an 8-footer.
23 years after his 1st win. 11 years since his last. After what Lisa has been through. Son on the bag. There are a lot of "great guys" out there, but I haven't found a better one than Stewart Cink. Just awesome for so many reasons.
Guy birdies 7 holes in a row before chunking a wedge like a 20 handicaper.
While the other guy injures himself on a light fist pump.
It’s a hell of a game.
JoAnne Carner, 79 years young, 7 AM on the 1st tee at Chicago Golf Club, ripping a heater, throws it on the ground, and stripes her drive on the way to shooting her age. Come on. Nothing in 2018 will top that.
Do these commentators know that Spieth has 3 Majors, 14 Tour wins, a couple other USGA trophies, and an NCAA ring? They’re acting like he just learned golf last week. Dude is a legend, just enjoy it guys.
As you watch the 13-14 year old division of the Drive, Chip, and Putt today, pour one out for Guan Tianlang who MADE THE CUT AT THE MASTERS AS A 14 YEAR OLD
Whoever said that if he doesn’t hit the opening tee shot, what are we even doing?!…is 1,000% right. Don’t even look for the ball, who cares. Just ship one 220 mph into the universe. USA by a million.
Golf talk is so funny. If Mito hits one more good chip or one more straight 3 wood? People are dumping on JT’s Saturday…instead he’s now a generational player. Classic.
The real missed opportunity is not telling the story of the players. Tell the fans about Sam Burns. They can see with their eyes it’s firm and fast and Riviera is great/difficult. Fans connect with players. They want to know the players and root for them. Tell their stories.
Everyone involved in this thing will be better off when they realize fans don't care about athlete comp. Palmer wasn't beloved bc of his comp, people don't obsess over the Masters bc of the purse. And the fans are what make the team, the league, the tour, whatever. It's the fans.
I think even the very top players are underrated. Spieth has had his worst year on Tour. Almost won Augusta. Almost won the British. Going to make Atlanta. Pretty impressive down year.
Dear Golf Twitter: Maybe just take this weekend and enjoy watching the best players in the world chasing our national championship around a stunningly beautiful, stern test, anyone can play there golf course. And simply be thankful for that. Just an idea.
If you wake up today and your job feels impossible - just remember there is a team of people selling Jacksonville Jaguars tickets, suites, and hospitality packages.

@jimcramer
I played with Morikawa at the Deere last summer. I told my caddy, he does the hardest thing in the world to do: play golf like you’re supposed to. Remember thinking the same thing about Stricker.
People saying Memphis event doesn't have a ton of cache? Please, Dicky Pride is a past champ, and in '17 I was 1 outside the cut finishing on 9. Heel-pull driver into the left rough, stuffed a flyer 9 iron to a front pin, made the cut and went on to finish T65.

Until you can shoot low scores at home, you won’t shoot them in tournaments. Sounds obvious but somehow players and parents don’t get this concept. And it’s true at every level. I’ve probably played a dozen rounds at home w Stewart Cink and never seen him shoot over 64.
"The respect, the reverence, what a beautiful moment" - every bro who's been yelling MASHED POTATOES at turr events the last decade talking about Hideki's caddy bowing. And they're saying it with a straight face, it's just too good.
The two great things about being a member at an iconic club have to be: 1. The casual rounds with other members when you can just play and enjoy the club. 2. The idea that in hosting a guest you can enable the creation of a lifelong memory for that person. Pretty cool.
You never meet anyone from Del Mar or La Jolla or Cardiff by the Sea. Because once you get there you don’t leave. You don’t take business trips to Houston or Atlanta. You just stay and surf, and drink Lagunitas and eat tri-tip sandwiches and never ever leave.
There are more good players than ever - but the gap between the good players and the great ones has also never been bigger. Can’t remember the last time a good player truly contended in a major. It’s a 8-12 man field at the majors. Amazing.
Paddy Harrington on NLU pod is excellent.
“It wasn’t important to be a long hitter, bc at the end of the day, none of them were any good!”
That’s so so true. In college (‘03-‘07) we just didn’t care/talk about distance much. Paddy contends Rory changed the game in 2011. Right
I played in front of this dude today. This drive rolled 15 yards. No wind. I saw it land, had to get my yardage book out to see how far it flew. 340. Shotlink confirmed.
@Wilco
A match 10 years in the making - happening tomorrow. I'm playing a 7 hdcp. He gets two tees. And 8 times during the round he either a) gets to rehit a shot or b) gets to make me rehit a shot. Stay tuned...
The course, the USGA, Mike Davis...they’re all just characters along with the players in an entertainment product called the US Open. They don’t “mess up”. It’s all part of the product. It’s still a championship, but it’s also a TV show.
Missed the Senate hearings, going to get my recap from Shotgun Start. No one actually has a clue what’s going on, might as well listen to the most absurd recap out there.
“We’ve got four” Baby Lucy made the Castros a 4-some this Thursday. So thankful for healthy Mom and baby and all the incredible doctors and nurses at Piedmont Hospital.
Not sure his status, but Connors was 66th in FedEx before this week. Still not getting starts on his number/sponsors spots. Just Mondayed in - and WON. People will complain and/or talk it to death but fact is the best players make their way onto the Tour one way or another.
The course is the course, it doesn’t really matter, but I’m telling you if there were no houses and the nearest gas station was 30 miles away -Cuscowilla would get as much press as any other Coore Crenshaw.
Sad to hear Pete Dye is in poor health. The more I read about his career and his partnership with Alice the more I admire him. I think he’s overlooked as an all time great. PGA West, Honors, Sawgrass are all on my list of favorites.
All the looking at the grass and tapping it down after you miss an 8 footer has to stop - first of all you can fix spike marks now, and second of all, just tap in and move on that's not the last 8 footer you'll miss.
Bryson won the NCAA, the US Am, the Memorial, and whatever else he’s won...35 yards ago. If he doesn’t get significantly worse at another part of the game, or get hurt...lookout.
Tiger with a broken body grinding out this cuts record in 45* rain…remarkable. Toughest dude to ever play this brutal game. (maybe a tie with Hogan but it’s a big gap after those 2)
It’s funny how the players improving the most on Tour have the coaches who aren’t on IG building their brand. They’re playing the long game, staying in the background, helping their players build skills. Fun to watch.
There’s a lot of golf content out there, most of it is clueless, damn near all of it honestly. But Ogilvy on
@the_fried_egg
is incredible. Must listen.
Victoria National exceeded high expectations by 5 miles. Can count on 1 hand the courses I’ve played that are better than VN. Remarkable in every way. Fazio’s masterpiece.
Played with a guy who turned in 40 yesterday. Grinded out 72. Shot 61 today. To go with two other 62’s and a 59 today. However good you think turr players are - they’re better.
Na 12 strokes gained putting through 3 rounds. Perez over 400 ft of putts through 3 rounds. It’s more fun to watch Rory hit 14 straight 330 yd bombs in a day, but I’m not sure putting like that isn’t more incredible. Unreal.
Dan Quinn repeatedly brining up the blocked and missed FGs is like shooting 87 and getting hung up on the two 3-putts. Bigger problems Coach, bigger problems.
Xander is the new “isn’t the longest hitter on Tour but he manages to get it in the hole” guy who in reality hits it long as hell. Spieth used to be that guy.
The people who are saying “sports without fans is not sports. I’m out” are the same people who are moving to Canada each election if their candidate loses.
Everyone complains about the turr season being too long, but be honest if it’s was on right now you’d have it on. You might not be watching but someone would say “put the golf on” and you would.
Dubious. Nice word choice. Check in with the thousands of people who’ve tried to make a living playing golf and couldn’t and see if they’d call it a “dubious distinction” to have had Cameron’s career so far.
