My mum passed away last night after a short illness. My mum was a hero to me. She adopted me in the 70’s which changed my life. In the late 80’s she lost her house and marriage but by getting loans everywhere and a mortgage at 53 years of age she kept our family going.

To put the LOI crowds into context with greyhounds. In 2022 there were 322,124 attendees at 1,358 meetings. An average crowd of 237 people. In 2023 there will be 800,000 attendees at 360 matches or 2,222 people on average. One gets €17.6m from the state, the other peanuts 😢

No doubt lots of politicians will be praising the Irish team and trying to get into photo shoots to get a % of the credit. Maybe give clubs here, at all levels, some cash to help grow the game here. We aren’t racing dogs or horses but you can see the lift it gives the nation.

I really wish the debate wasn’t about should Kenny be fired or not. The conversation should be about how do we make a 5/10/15 year plan to improve Irish football for the long term. We have never had a proper plan like so many nations. And we wonder why we have fallen behind 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

The “old” FAI did nothing to develop football here properly for 30/40 years. What we are currently going through is the consequences of those decisions. If we want a football industry (hate the term) here we need to make hard decisions and build football up from the ground.

There will be loads of talk on the manager’s position in the next few weeks. 100% understandable. There will be very little talk on the fundamentals of the system here and why our players are mostly bottom of the premier/championship standard. Fix the second question 👍

It’s such a shock that barely investing any money in underage player development and not really having a thought out strategy on the same topic over the last 20 years has come back to bite the national team. Who could have foreseen that 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️😤

No idea of Kenny is the right man to lead the international team, but personally I think he is. Our problems run deep, most fans just want a jolly up at the WC/Euros than actually try and understand the problems and fix them. With Brexit it could get worse before it gets better.

As a football fan, it’s great the euros will be here in 2028. But the state will spend circa €100m holding 6 games here, same money could make a real lasting impact on football across the island if used differently. These are the choices we make….

Horse racing and greyhound racing get €90m a year public funding, good on them. Hardly anyone notices. FAI float €100m a year only for 10 years, not indefinitely like the sports above to revolutionise Irish football and some think it’s crazy. Money is there if the will is.

There were 10,281 at the last #Bohs cup final in 2008 in the RDS. Assuming 60% were Bohs that day we would have had roughly 6,200. We will have sold more tickets for the final in 2021 after a day than we brought in 2008, that was a time of winning doubles etc. Crazy change.🔴⚫️

Going to do a few tweets on the greyhound "industry" but sadly I don't think anyone cares. The "industry" apart from government grants at €20m revenue is smaller than the LOI premier division. Has less income, less crowds, less interest but gets €17.6m support.

The premier division prize money is growing from €371k in 2019 to €430k in 2021. However all 10 equally save circa €30k per annum in affiliation fees and referee costs. The bottom team in 2019 “won” €17k but paid €30k in costs. Now can win €22k with no costs. Progress 👍

I am being purposely stupid here. But imagine on the night of a Bohs v Rovers match, if local Bohs fans blocked the road and said local access only. Would it take 5, 10 or 15 seconds for the public order unit to attack these fans and clear the road?

Over the last 6 seasons (with fans) LOI crowds are up +126%. This is all organic and down to the hard work of clubs and benefactors, there has been zero increase in financial support from the FAI (they don't have it) or the state (they don't care?)

Bohs and Dundalk came close to eliminating PAOK and Vitesse from the conference league. A little bit of luck and both teams could have made it to round 4. PAOK and Vitesse now in the last 8 of that competition which shows their pedigree. Fine margins in football.

Saw a piece on losses in the league over the last few years, tried to pull a one page summary on all the clubs I could find. Going to do a longer blog post but some people putting a lot of money into clubs and success comes at a steep price.

LOI TV really is a great addition. Able to sit in on a Saturday night at watch s game. Hard to believe we only have this s few years now, but a massive positive.

Really has been a tough 36 hours for everyone at #Bohs . But good to see Duff out trying to lighten the mood with some comedy. Hats off to him 👍

No idea why we bother doing these jerseys. Like what's the point in doing 1 years worth of merchandise sales (pre unique away jerseys) in 24 hours on just 1 jersey. Just sell the club to some rich lad and depend on him rather than our own creativity 🤔🤔

Now on Sale: Our 2024 away kit, testament to Thin Lizzy's famous 1977 gig at Dalymount Park. Shirt sales will also raise funds to provide access to music for underprivileged children across Dublin City. 'Friday night they'll be dressed to kill'. 👉

I don’t know how Long does it every season. Scored 23 goals in our 18 games last season, lost the 3 players who scored the bulk of them. This season scored 30 in 18 games with effectively a new front 4 players. Kelly obviously leading the charge 👏👏

My mum got her second dose of the vaccine this morning. Obviously no guarantee but in 7 days time she will be as safe as she can be. Big relief 👌

Waiting on 3 attendances for 2023 but looking at the FAI data for 2019, 2022 and 2023 no club will be near St Pats in terms of comparable growth. From 34.5k (1,919 average) in 2019 to 76k (4,232 average) in 2023. 👏👏

Bohs v Rovers is effectively sold out over 4 weeks before kickoff. Pats not far off it 5 weeks out. Shows the demand to get to games in Dalymount and hopefully the clear demand will highlight the need to the government to support DCC in building the new ground asap.🔴⚫️🔴⚫️

The lasting legacy for the Irish football community will be a GAA stadium in Belfast part funded while our teams at all levels play in sub standard facilities.

Mono epitomised what #Bohs as a members club was about. He gave his time so freely for any job that was needed. He is/was a legend to all who knew him and is literally irreplaceable. An over used word but in this case appropriate. The club won’t be the same again 💔🖤💔🖤

❤️🖤It was with absolute devastation that we last night learned of the tragic passing of our dear friend Derek Monaghan, known to all simply as Mono:

I think its clear what we need to do to sort out the FAI debt pile. Have more cup finals (6 a year) and ensure the teams in them can sell the Aviva out. Thats a limited number of teams but needs must. Well done to both teams and the FAI on delivering a fantastic result 👏👏

Less than 9 years since this photo in Derry at the end of the 2011 season. We didn’t know if we would see the 12 season. Haven’t lost a penny since in almost 9 years, paid back everyone with no walking away from our past f**k ups. Today hopefully the icing on the cake #bohs ❤️🖤

I thought tonight was our best performance so far. So much quicker in attack than Friday. Everyone played well but Coote was excellent I thought, like a new signing. Great to see a big crowd on a Monday night, highest attendance on the night. Just need more capacity 🙏🏼🙏🏼🔴⚫️

Watching the FAI launch. Mostly good concepts that few could disagree with. But surely as a KPI growing the weekly gates should be a far more important target than a crowd for 1 big day. A big cup final crowd isn’t necessarily success v say 20% growth in gates

Have no idea how twitter live worked as never used it before. Didn’t even know how to mute myself 🙈 Was sent this pic, was there really 4,200 odd people watching a dodgy iPhone stream of the #Bohs game? Crazy if that’s what the number means 😂😂

To show where LOI clubs have come from, with almost zero financial help, over 2,500 boys and girls will play for LOI clubs in academy league this season. Future men's and women's internationals getting a chance to develop. When people say F**K the FAI, this is who you a f**king.

22 years ago from the craziest game I ever attended. 4-1 down at half time, winning 6-4. And doing it v your biggest rivals. Glad I stayed at HT ❤️🖤❤️🖤

LOI fans need to stop giving out about the lack of RTE or press coverage from time to time. We need to build a product that these companies need to cover, not that they are forced into it. Only way to grow the league. Just my stupid thought of the day 😀

A few things from European results for teams: ▪️Irish football looks so much better played in a good stadium. Clubs/FAI/government got to fast track this. ▪️Gap here to other leagues closing. Whether than can be sustained 🤷🏻‍♂️

Great to be back at football. Thought we were very comfortable through out the game until an error gave them a sniff. But 3 points was all that mattered tonight and the players worked so hard and battled for every ball which was great to see. ❤️🖤❤️🖤
