Does everyone else who lives in a terraced house with a yard agree that on days like these we should draw up a rota for blasting out music in turns - maybe of an hour each - rather than just having one person whose House music dominates every single summer?
Still seeing plenty of national media reporting on restrictions affecting “Liverpool” rather than the bigger city region of 1.5m people. So once more for those at the back:
The Liverpool City Region is:
🌃 Liverpool
🌳 Wirral
🌊 Sefton
🦒 Knowsley
🌉 Halton
🏉 St Helens
It’s a shame so many people outside our region don’t seem to realise the existence of
@SlaveryMuseum
in Liverpool. Weird it gets a passing ref in this article... maybe what they really mean is “there are calls to establish one in London”?!
This was me broadcasting from home during lockdown 1. Feel so lucky to do this job every day. You will be glad to know my home broadcast set up has improved since March 2020

Remember the
@BBCArchive
clip of Liverpool school kids talking about their favourite books? Remember the little girl who only read first aid books because she thought being a nurse she'd get into the footie for free? Whatever happened to her? LISTEN:
Travelled down the whole length of Smithdown/Allerton Rd just now and I have to applaud all the independent businesses which have opened in the past 12 months along there, and all those who’ve worked so hard to survive 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I think I once paid my council tax over the counter in this room! Also in more recent years I was often here for work, interviewing council types. Amazing transformation of the Municipal Buildings into an extremely fancy hotel
I really don’t want this day to end! This week has been one of the best ever in Liverpool. So much fun and giddiness, lots of new friends and showing our best self to the world. I hope Ukraine feels we did a good job for them 💙💛
My job really boils down to two things:
a) Explaining the difference between different types of mayor, and why there are 3 with “Liverpool” in their title.
b) Explaining the boundaries of the Liverpool City Region
Yet again I say it: what a day! So much fun to watch the semi-final at the fan village and then to just appreciate how beautiful our city looks ❤️

Nothing like nearly being mown down with a small child on the way to school! “You shouldn’t be walking in the road should you?” Screamed the driver as I shouted “slow down”. Madam, I was walking on a clearly marked crossing!!!
Here’s a little teaser for you local politics nerds: when was the last time an independent won a seat on

?? It hasn’t happened in my 10 years in this job as far as I can recall … until now.

won Orrell Park ward and he’s delighted!
I met a man at

today who’d been sleeping rough for 11 months. He said a cup of coffee and some toast bought by a stranger via the pay it forward scheme made him feel connected. A small gesture which makes a difference.

tonight at 7. Roger Hill is a cultural giant. Great broadcaster, bright jackets! I’ve always loved listening to him and the music he’s passionate about. Plus, the rest of the team are ace.
Can’t believe the day has come to say farewell to this absolute legend. His brain is the size of a planet, he’s hilarious to work with and he’s taught me so much. (He’s bought me toast every day pretty much for the last 4 years so I will miss that too.)
Today marks the last time Roger Phillips will grace the airwaves of
@BBCMerseyside
😢 Best of luck Roger, you will be sorely missed!

Probably the youngest councillor in the Liverpool council chamber!
@RebeccaTurnerLD
is delighted to have won for
@LiverLibDems
in the new Waterfront South ward. Her ward contains … the waterfront so she’s thrilled that Eurovision will happen in her patch!
Liverpool's MPs have stayed quiet so far on who they are backing as the
@UKLabour
candidate for mayor in May. Now both
@IanByrneMP
+
@DanCardenMP
say they're suporting
@CllrAnnaRothery
(I understand all 3 candidates are being re-interviewed today).
I’m feeling emotional listening to Rogers show! He’s an inspiration to me - plus he’s absolutely hilarious to work with. He’s bought me toast most mornings... and he makes the phone-in an appointment to listen every day. We will miss him so!
Our very own Roger Phillips has today announced his retirement from his Phone In show.
Joining BBC Radio Merseyside in 1978 he's won many awards including a Lifetime Achievement award and was granted Liverpool’s highest accolade - Citizen of Honour in 2017

Such sad news. She was a great broadcaster.. one of the few women on Radio 1 when I was younger. She championed Merseyside bands throughout her life & was such an enthusiast. Sending love to her family and friends
I was reporting from outside the hospital all morning. It’s a special place for me, as like so many on Merseyside it’s where my children were born. This morning, staff turned up as normal, to get on with their amazing work.
Work is FINALLY beginning to remediate the Littlewoods building! Phase one has started, planning application has gone in. If all goes according to plan, this beauty will be a film hub opening in 2026 - more

It is with heavy hearts that we announce Sir Ken Robinson died peacefully yesterday, 21st August 2020, surrounded by family after a short battle with cancer.
We will be following up with a further update as we begin to follow Sir Ken’s wishes and honour his legacy.

I’m in Liverpool for the Liverpool City Region metro mayor election count. Have realised I am wearing the same outfit I wore the last time this election was held: 2021
I very much enjoyed being aboard the first

service to Headbolt Lane this morning. Passengers I spoke to delighted - lots told me how they’d usually walk to Kirkby .. sometimes as long as 45 mins to catch a train. Headbolt is a game changer for them!
Current view. 5 Liverpool bus lanes are going to be reactivated as part of a plan to speed up bus journeys & make them more attractive. Will it work? I’m no expert, but priority lanes with traffic lights that favour buses are surely a good idea?
Back to Southport again today talking about politics in this fascinating constituency. Dressed much as I would be dressed in December. Forecast of heavy rain and strong winds. ✅
I will never forget this day. I was working freelance and had been on a late shift the night before. Was still in bed when I heard my flat mate jumping up and down for joy in the room upstairs. Think
@snellyradio
started his show with “fantastic day” that morn
This really has stopped me in my tracks this morning. Thinking of Jenni + Trevor Hicks and all the families of the 97, and all those who were there that day and will never forget. We will never forget.
Teacher friends understandably annoyed by reports that schools are “closed”. Many (if not most) schools are open for a small number of children. Lots of teachers are still going in, so it’s about opening schools to more pupils, not opening schools.
I love this story! A Toxteth man who inherited £100k asked 12 strangers to give it away to community groups on his behalf. Beneficiaries include

“We don’t care what your name is boy, we’ll never turn you away”. Lyrics always bring a lump to my throat. Imagine having created that AND the definitive version of You’ll Never Walk Alone.
Merseybeat legend Gerry Marsden has died. The leader of Gerry and The Pacemakers passed away at the age of 78 after a short illness. You'll Never Walk Alone.
Let me pay tribute to the perseverance, the patience and most of all the dignity of all Hillsborough families who suffered such a grievous loss.
And it is to respect and honour the memory of all who died that we need the Hillsborough Law Now.

So -

has been re selected as

candidate in West Derby. I believe there were just 12 votes in it. Been a pretty toxic episode in the CLP, to say the least.

Lots of people in Liverpool telling me today they're not bothered about Hs2 - what they want is decent local transport that can take them cheaply and easily to Manchester/Leeds/and beyond.
The Prime Minister’s commitment to deliver HS2 in full is welcome but falls short of the full and unequivocal commitment to HS2 and Northern Powerhouse Rail that the North needs.
I will continue to push for delivery of the new West-East rail line that our city region needs.
Taxi home. “I don’t do politics” says the driver after asking me about my job. He then proceeds to give a skilful analysis of PFI, the history of Labour Party and his take on Trump. “I enjoyed that. We’ll do religion and football next!” He says dropping me off. Night!
