I met a man at @PCPCoffee today who’d been sleeping rough for 11 months. He said a cup of coffee and some toast bought by a stranger via the pay it forward scheme made him feel connected. A small gesture which makes a difference.

Lots of people in Liverpool telling me today they're not bothered about Hs2 - what they want is decent local transport that can take them cheaply and easily to Manchester/Leeds/and beyond.

The Prime Minister’s commitment to deliver HS2 in full is welcome but falls short of the full and unequivocal commitment to HS2 and Northern Powerhouse Rail that the North needs. I will continue to push for delivery of the new West-East rail line that our city region needs.

Taxi home. “I don’t do politics” says the driver after asking me about my job. He then proceeds to give a skilful analysis of PFI, the history of Labour Party and his take on Trump. “I enjoyed that. We’ll do religion and football next!” He says dropping me off. Night!
