You know what? Being transgender isn’t a label. It’s an ingredient.

In my role as chair of

I was invited to consult with the Cass review. After three discussions it was obvious that the review had been written before we started. She totally discounted evidence from trans people from the basis of knowledge or lived experience. Useless.
With 15,000 hours on 747s alone, almost half my total, she will always be the love of my aviation life. 50 Years Of History: The British Airways Boeing 747 - Simple Flying
On a night rating, I take my students to the ‘big’ side of the airport to see green taxiway centreline lighting and coded centreline lighting. Tonight, I took the opportunity to take an up close and personal photo of the two retro painted 747s. Two old and much loved friends.
Me on a test flight today, just before an electrical failure and a gear failure. All safely resolved, I’m glad to say. Would have been a shame to write off this lovely little Arrow. Photo courtesy of the aircraft owner, and taken from his garden.
My career print is back from its second visit to D&S Frames, in Barry, to add in my full career of cap badges and brevets.
@airlinerart
did an amazing job, as did D&S.
@kclepley
Inspired to fly by my dad, who flew Lancasters in WWII and Vampires in the 1950s, the 777 was my retirement type after a 45 year airline career, but the 747-400 will always be my true aviation love.
All I want is for people to see that transwomen are not a problem for society to try to fix. We are a part of that society that wants to be accepted for who we are.
#ComingOutDay
just happens to fall on the fifth anniversary of my going to work for the first time as my authentic self. It’s a decision I never once regretted. Authenticity makes people helps, but only with societal support. Be your best self. Be authentic.
Such sad news about my aviation true love. I flew half my career hours on the 747 - over 15,000 hours at the controls of the Queen of the Skies. 14 of the British Airways fleet are parked at Cardiff, where I am senior flight instructor. A beautiful but sad sight.
I had the most amazing 13-years flying the
@Boeing
747-400. So sad confirmation that won’t be coming back into service where I work. It will be sorely missed from the skies across the world.

The thrust reversers were deployed on touchdown. You can clearly see the translation cowl in the rearward position. Reverse idle is often SOP. Autobrake on a minimum setting is easily held by nose up control inputs. Insufficient hard evidence to be so judgemental.
@kclepley
And then you gave me hope, and
@British_Airways
turned out to be just as supportive. They proved, time and again, that they were PROUD of me, as their first transgender pilot, and I was able to finish my 45 year career as the authentic me. Thank you, Kelly.
A view through my open DV window of Caen Hill Locks on the Kennet and Avon in Devizes as I flew past yesterday morning. The opening window is only about 6”x4” so it takes a bit of effort to frame the subject.

F450 at the controls. B747-400 newly delivered and we wanted to see how it felt up there. 90pax and not much fuel as it was on a SYD-MEL.
F610 as a pax. Concorde to New York, on duty, to drive to BOS and replace a sick pilot on the early morning BOS-LHR.
Yet another country allows self identification, as recommended by the Women’s & Equalities Committee of the last three parliaments. Shame on this government for being so out of step.

. 9 x √tyre pressure = minimum aquaplaning speed in knots. Call in 10 x in MPH. It applies on deep water, not just on runways. While it’s not impossible to break surface tension above aquaplaning speed, it’s easy to run along the surface.
@SouthernFairy16
A Vulcan. The Smiths Flight System is a hoot to fly. The pointer on the HSI is heading. The desired inbound track is at the top. So you fly DOWN the instrument when outbound. Takes some getting used to. I flew it on the Viscount from 1972-80.
Happy 50th Birthday,
@British_Airways
This day in 1974, you started operations after the merger of BOAC, BEA, Cambrian and Northeast. I had been a Cambrian co-pilot for 18 months at the time, so I like to say you joined me 😉.

At age 9, a child presenting as gender dysphoric will be offered nothing more than social affirmation and regular talks to assess their condition. IF they continue to exhibit dysphoria at Tanner Stage 2, and with informed consent, they MAY be offered hormone blockers.

I only retired because of the ridiculous age rules. If I pass my Class 1 medical and sim checks, why can’t I fly on? But I fly as an instructor now, so I still get by fix of aviation. In fact, this was taken of me yesterday.
Do I agree with

Nope. No separation required between a medium or heavy departure followed by a super arrival. And with good reason. There is NO wake turbulence until the departing aircraft rotates, which is way beyond the point at which the landing aircraft touches down.

This was taken of me, by the aircraft owner, standing in his front garden. With skilled pilots (they are) and a skilled photographer (she is) of course you can get shots, agaInst sky, from that angle.

To all those jumping on the bandwagon of claiming that “long term use of puberty blocker” is an unknown, a few facts. Transgender use of puberty blockers is SHORT term. Tanner stage 2 until old enough to go further or turn back. LONG term use is for precocious puberty.

That’s going to cost them. Last time I diverted for an unruly passenger it put him in Winnipeg in January (we were on our way to Phoenix). The Mounties frog marched him off and he was fined CAD20,000 plus airline costs. Denied travel by all airlines, was deported by sea from YSJ.

I flew as copilot on the very first British Airways 737-200 into Funchal, long before they lengthened the runway. The performance book had an error which made the departure VERY interesting.

Rick Craft and crew certainly survived on 1½ when they hit a flock of geese on takeoff from Montreal. Quick selection of fuel dump and a 200’ circuit to land. They couldn’t climb and the turns had to be huge so as not to lose height. Amazingly skilful job by all three.

Spot any similarities? I am a woman and I don’t need to justify that. JK was abused and she doesn’t need to justify that.

Some of the older Spitfires and Hurricanes have wooden propellers. They erode quite quickly in rain (400mph rain, prop speed not aircraft speed is like small pebbles). While they CAN fly in rain, they tend to avoid it whenever possible, to get the most life out of components.

Guess what I am finding hard is the awakening to an even bigger audience of the "would we or wouldn't we rape Jess Phillips" because of legitimising of the perpetrator. I've dealt with it in drips for nearly 4 years and just deleted or blocked. It's like a torrent at the moment

My vote always goes to Boeing. While the A350 LOOKS like a nice working environment, Airbus made some duff decisions at the A320 stage which remain.
Non-moving throttles, so no instant feedback on what they are doing.
No feedback on what the other side stick is doing.

About 60,000’ for me too, in Concorde. 45,000’ at the controls, in a 747-400 from Sydney-Melbourne with minimum fuel and 90 pax. New aircraft and we just wanted to see how it felt (much better and more stable than a -200 at 39,000’).

Not a touch and go, where we land fully, reconfigure for takeoff then set thrust and roll to a takeoff, for training. This was a go-around. The correct response to a bad bounce. Go-arounds are available until the reversers are deployed.
Delighted to be appearing as the ‘studio expert,’ live on BBC 4 next Tuesday and Wednesday at 8pm on the longhaul and shorthaul episodes of Planespotting Live before handing over to a military pilot for the third episode on Thursday....
@BBBLondon
The gear failed on downwind in the circuit pattern. I flew a few Go arounds and ran all the checklists but what eventually worked was a good military style ‘run and break’ with the gear coming down with the help of a little ‘g’ in the turn.
@Adamprice
Sorry, Adam. The apology was akin to someone saying, “I’m sorry you see it that way.” No apology at all for the tweet. Just that it hurt some of us. She’s a dyed in the wool transphobe and that will lose you the votes of Welsh trans people.
