An organisation asked me to donate 240 copies of my book to their event. That’s almost $8000. This has now trumped any request asking me to work for free. The event is $125 to attend, has speakers & is sponsored by many companies. I suggested they buy 240 copies of my book.

Disheartened, angry and scared to see the news that National Cabinet has scrapped mandatory isolation periods and the covid isolation payments. This will have a huge impact on disabled, chronically ill and elderly people, and those who can't afford to stay home when sick.

At the hairdressers - not the lovely one I usually go to as it’s hard to get into. The hairdresser just said my hair is beautiful, and she was so lovely and honestly it made me want to cry. Being treated with care, not apprehension or disgust at a hairdresser is life changing ❤️

A little kid on the tram was scared of my face and wouldn’t sit next to me. I said to them they can sit there, and that I get sad when someone’s scared of me. With some coaxing from their Mum, they sat, said sorry and talked to me about school and career goals. It was nice ❤️

When people say audiobooks aren’t real books: Audiobooks are real books. I am an author, I wrote my book & narrated my audiobook. It’s offensive when people say the audiobook is not a real book. Audiobooks create accessibility for disabled people & can be read while doing things.

Forty years ago today my Mum and Dad arrived in Sydney. They had to flee South Africa because of Apartheid - racial segregation. This is them when they courted illegally in Cape Town. Mum was very sad to leave her home. But they did it for love. What a life they made here ❤️

Covid safe practices should not impact on accessibility for disabled and elderly people. Am out shopping for groceries, and there’s nowhere to sit and rest in shopping areas. No, customers shouldn’t be encouraged to congregate - but this is inaccessible.

This morning, a person newly diagnosed with ichthyosis who is my parents’ age, told me that they hadn’t heard of ichthyosis until they saw my portrait for the Archibald prize. They sought a diagnosis, are researching treatment. Life has changed for them. Representation matters

I’m watching the conversations around Daniel Andrews’ injury and sick leave. I hate the disbelief that is attached to disability and injury, and the proof of evidence that people demand. There’s a great sense of shame attached, which doesn’t allow proper time to heal.
