New York Times best-selling author of 9 baseball books, 2023 NYS Baseball HOF inductee, professional speaker, and host of The Erik Sherman Show Podcast.
After 111 regular season victories, the
@Dodgers
must win their next two games to advance to the NLCS. The third place
@Phillies
are a game away from advancing to it. This is what's wrong with the
@MLB
playoff system. Total crap shoot that doesn't reward greatness.
Was there a better lefty-righty pitching combination from '68 through '77 in
@MLB
than
#JerryKoosman
and
#TomSeaver
? This was the last time they would be together--in 2017. I love the joy captured in this photo.
This was the final photo taken from our trip to see Tom Seaver-- these Miracle
@Mets
together one last time. We went to lunch in Calistoga and the guys reminisced about their playing days and what was going on in their lives present day. It was a privilege to be there with them
As we remember the life of
#BuddyHarrelson
, here is another one of my favorite photos. It features Buddy alongside Jerry Koosman and myself, with Ron Swoboda and
@ArtShamsky
across the table over breakfast at Denny's before our ride up to Calistoga to see Tom Seaver in 2017.
In 1995, I published a book with
#GlennBurke
about his life as a gay man with the
@Dodgers
and
@Athletics
. Despite tremendous talent, he was ultimately blackballed from baseball because of his sexual orientation. Tonight, remarkably, he will be honored at Dodger Stadium.
So happy for the family of Gil Hodges--particularly his wife Joan (pictured here)--one of the nicest people I know. It was her dream to live to see this day when her husband would get elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame--an honor he so richly deserved.
I took this opportune shot of Tom Seaver several years ago just as he happened to point to Gil Hodges in a photo in his office. Seaver talked endlessly about how Hodges deserved to be in the Hall of Fame--even getting emotional about it at one point that day.
@baseballhall
Took this photo of
#TomSeaver
and his best friend in baseball, Buddy Harrelson, in 2017. Love how it shows the joy and wink of an eye on Tom's face while telling Buddy a story. Tom was so vibrant and animated that day. It was the last time these
@Mets
were together.
Was driving out to Brooklyn today and couldn't help but notice all the baseball history celebrated along the way. The (Carl) Erskine Street exit on the Belt Parkway; the Jackie Robinson Parkway; the Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge. End this stupid lockout. Bring
@MLB
back.
The
@BlueJays
will no longer have radio broadcasters and will use the television feed as a replacement. I assume this is to somehow cut down on costs. When will teams and networks get it? Baseball on the radio is the soundtrack of summer and should be respected that way.
The
@Mets
hiring of
#BuckShowalter
was the only viable choice. Hope they leave him alone and let him do his job. I've long believed that Buck, along with
#GeneMichael
, were the true architects of the last
@Yankees
dynasty. The
@Mets
have had a near-perfect off-season.
Deeply humbled and grateful to receive official word that I will be inducted into the New York State Baseball Hall of Fame for my baseball book writing. More details to come.
Decades overdue, the
#TomSeaver
statue will be unveiled at
#CitiField
today. I only wish the legend in this photo with me could have been here to enjoy it. As someone that appreciated the history and majesty of the game, it would have meant everything to him.
I don’t care how much Nike is paying
@MLB
, the All Stars have to return to playing in their own team uniforms. Hard to tell who some of these guys are.
It's now 26 days until the release of my book, 'Two Sides of Glory: The 1986 Boston Red Sox In Their Own Words.' So I'm posting a photo taken in Tampa, Florida where I interviewed
#26
--Hall of Famer
@ChickenMan3010
Wade Boggs--one of the greatest hitters of all-time.
@RedSox
Right now, the
@Yankees
are the most dominant team in baseball, yet most people won't watch their game today because it's on Peacock. If
@MLB
wants more fans, it needs to centralize these national games to one free network like they used to. Stop chasing every last dollar!
Rest easy
#TimMcCarver
. You were the best baseball analyst in the business and reinvigorated Ralph Kiner when you joined the
@Mets
broadcast booth. An honor to have known you. (Here with Steve Blass and me on his show).
RIP to The Franchise--the great Tom Seaver.
@ArtShamsky
and I brought '69
@Mets
Mets Jerry Koosman, Bud Harrelson, and Rocky Swoboda out to see him three years ago. Art and I wrote a book,
#AFTERTHEMIRACLE
in which the trip was highlighted. Greatest weekend of my life.
Visited dear friend Steve Blass in
@PNCparkNEWS
last night prior to his final televised broadcast as color analyst for the
@Pirates
after over 30 years. He is an icon in the Steel City and I was proud to be the co-author of his best-selling memoir

@gbrowniepoints
After writing eight baseball books and meeting literally hundreds of
@MLB
players, announcers, writers, and personnel, I am proud to announce that I will be rolling out my own podcast later this month--The Erik Sherman Show! My first guest will be
@MookieWilsonNY1
More to come..
I felt a little like Buddy Harrelson's old double play partner Felix Millan having a catch with him and
@ArtShamsky
today on Long Island. Buddy was in great spirits!
Very sad to hear the news that Bill Virdon passed away earlier today. One of the true privileges of my writing career was getting to know him over the last ten years--first, while co-authoring Steve Blass's autobiography; and then at various social gatherings in Pittsburgh. RIP
Confirmed today that I will be having a
#TwoSidesOfGlory
book-signing event at this place called Cheers in Boston in September. I hear it's the kind of place where everybody knows your name. Anyway, I'm pretty pumped about this event whether I sign two books or two hundred.

In recognizing
#blackhistorymonth2023
, it's impossible not to think of the contribution to the game that the
@Mets
Ed Charles made. It was a privilege to meet and interview him.
Last night's
@Mets
@Dodgers
game was a reminder of how great a game baseball can still be. Played in 2:19, it had everything--pitching, defense and the long ball. Baseball like it oughta be!
As a writer, I am more a fan of individuals than teams. I've known
#DustyBaker
for 27 years since writing a book with his teammate and friend
#GlennBurke
. There isn't a finer person in the game today. Wishing him the best to win his first
#WorldSeries
as a manager.
Wishing a Happy 80th birthday to the last
@Mets
manager to win a World Series
#DaveyJohnson
. It was a privilege to collaborate with him on his autobiography a few years ago.
Can we please put an end to the awkward, cringe-worthy, elementary school sideline reporter questions posed to head coaches in the middle of games? They’re utterly useless, but worse, are embarrassing.
With '69 Mets royalty at the
#GilHodges
@baseballhall
party--Gil Jr., Tommy Agee's widow Maxcine and daughter J'nelle, and, of course, .300 hitter and NLCS (would be MVP)
@ArtShamsky
With
@Mets
slugger Pete Alonso before tonight’s game. I was in Miami back in 2019 when he hit his first ML HR and gave him my ticket stub from that game—he was very surprised and touched.
With the great

It's 46 days until the release of my upcoming book, Two Sides of Glory: The 1986 Boston Red Sox In Their Own Words. So today I'm posting a photo from Pawtucket, Rhode Island where I interviewed

It's just 24 days until the release of my book, 'Two Sides of Glory: The 1986 Boston Red Sox In Their Own Words.' So I'm posting a photo taken at Fenway Park where I interviewed

For nearly three decades,
@gbrowniepoints
has been the Voice of

baseball--and a consummate professional. Brown has MC'd countless events for the Buccos, including this Saturday at the team's inaugural HOF induction ceremony. Few have done it better than Greg Brown.
Beyond thrilled to see an excerpt of my book
#TwoSidesOfGlory
published in this month's
@BaseballDigest
! As a kid, I subscribed to the magazine for years and collected as many of them as I could. So pleased they chose my chapter on the great
#BillBuckner
.
Remember that first time as a kid walking through the tunnel under the stands at your first
@mlb
game and then, like magic, seeing the magnificent brilliance of the green infield grass of a big league park. If that experience was

this is what it looked like.

wanted to be a

player for the rest of his career and would have been had Jean Yawkey not passed away soon after they had verbally agreed to a seven year extension after the '91 season. Read about in

Congratulations to

on the announcement this evening that the

this July. Mex turned the fortunes and the 'attitude' of the club around in '83--leading them to WS glory just three years later. Nobody is more deserving of the honor.
R.I.P. to
#JohnStearns
. A four-time
@Mets
all-star during the club's dark ages of the late-70s, he was one of the few bright spots. Rest easy, 'Dude.'
It's 6 days until the release of 'Two Sides of Glory: The 1986 Boston Red Sox In Their Own Words.' So I'm posting a photo with

--Bill Buckner. This would be Buck's final major interview before he passed away and is, perhaps, the most revealing and compelling chapter in the book
RIP to legendary
@Dodgers
scout
#MikeBrito
who passed away this evening. A prince of a man, he signed
#FernandoValenzuela
and so many other Latino stars to
@MLB
contracts. Brito was a tremendous resource for my upcoming book on Valenzuela. Heartbreaking news.
Yesterday would have been the birthday of
#TomSeaver
--one of the greatest pitchers that ever lived. This photo was taken during an interview I had with him at his home in the Napa Valley in 2017. If this turns out to be my final tweet, I can't think of a better image to end with.
Not sure how you pull deGrom after six near-perfect innings after just 77 pitches and a 2-0 lead. Somewhere, the

The
@Mets
sitting Baez and Lindor, both of whom are finally getting hot, in the second game of yesterday's DH loss to the
@Nationals
, will be what everyone goes back to should the
@Mets
lose the division by one game. A ridiculously awful decision by
@Mets
management.
We're going to look back at the Winter Meetings of '22 as the year when some of the worst contracts of all-time were finalized. Two takeaways: 1.) Owners can never plead poverty again. 2.) Players need to contribute more pension revenue to ALL former players.
