Adam Wainwright just said that Nolan Arenado would occasionally send him videos over the last couple years of him making ridiculous plays and tell him "Show this to Mo."
There is no doubt, this guy wanted to be a Cardinal.
The two biggest stars of the National League West over the course of the last decade now anchor the corners of the St. Louis Cardinals infield.
Remarkable.
@Deadspin
This is the dumbest headline I've ever read, but I went ahead and clicked the article just to give it a chance. Now I have a new dumbest article I've ever read.
My response column is as follows:
No shit.
This Blues fan decided to reenact a portion of NBC's broadcast of the Blues 5-0 win over the Sharks in Game 5. Make sure to... uh, watch 'til the end.

(David Herron on Facebook)
Chris Carpenter shares the story of the St. Louis staff wanting to have Adam Wainwright follow Carp around back in 2004, hoping Waino would learn and see what it looked like to be a pro.
Carpenter chokes up talking about the way Adam turned the tables, investing him in and being
If you hit your receiver directly in the dang face mask with a pass that looked like this when you threw it, you did everything you could to give your team a chance.
Jack Flaherty pitched one helluva game tonight. On the night his mentor and friend Bob Gibson passed away.
Cardinals didn't get it done. But Jack should be proud of the way he competed. Gibby would be, too.
Mikolas is not throwing today, so Adam Wainwright's throw partner is... Chris Carpenter.
I'm sure he's enjoying his post-playing career, but the man sure does still look the part.

This is the BEST. From last night, Bader playing games with José and Dexter regarding which outfielder he's been summoned to replace. And they're both totally into it. 😂
I absolutely love this image. The way he just popped up onto the base was just so cool. May we all carry the kind of confidence that David Freese had in that moment.
Reminder: Adam Wainwright took a pay cut in guaranteed money greater than the amount the Cardinals will pay Paul Goldschmidt in 2019. The payroll is fine.
Go get Bryce Harper and be done with it.
#STLCards
Hey, I get to do a personal news tweet! Excited to share that I've been accepted into the St. Louis chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America. It's an incredible honor, one possible only in my wildest dreams when I began covering the Cardinals nearly four years ago.
After the first pitch, Yadier Molina with an extended ovation from the Cardinals fans. Wainwright steps way off the mound to let it happen.
His 2,000th career game. All wearing this uniform, playing for these fans.

@jasrifootball
That's not brutal. If someone has that kind of money that they are willing to lose for the promise of an 11k gain, I feel zero percent bad for them. They won't miss the million.
Can't believe the Cardinals' win streak is old enough to drive. Seems like just yesterday it was learning its shapes and colors, taking its first steps. They grow up so fast.
Jordan Binnington, the best individual story in St. Louis sports history this side of Kurt Warner, showed up on the biggest stage Wednesday. He won the ST. LOUIS BLUES a Stanley Cup.
You go get Goldschmidt. You say to Harper, look, here's what we've got going, take this third of a billion and come be part of it:
3B Carp
1B Goldy
RF Harper
LF Ozuna
C Yadi
SS DeJong
2B Wong
P
CF Bader
Oh, and the

second-string rotation was a STRENGTH in 2018.
Verlander, Gerrit Cole, Greinke, Wade Miley (3.06 ERA), Aaron Sanchez. That's a rotation.
Bregman, Altuve, Correa, Springer, Yordan Alvarez, Brantley, Gurriel. Those are some hitters.
Unbelievable team, the Astros.
They don't call him the Yadfather for nothing.
(This is also a direct response to Acuna doing it previously in the series, for those who care about context)
In arguably the most electric regular-season weekend Busch Stadium III has ever seen, the Cardinals welcomed to town the mighty New York Yankees... And systemically picked them apart for three games straight. It's a sweep.
Seven straight wins. Absolutely insane.
Arenado was fighting back emotion at his locker. He was indeed asked about the opt-out. On the future:
"I just feel like I fit well here. I think the city appreciates me--probably not after tonight--but you know. I really loved it here so hopefully we can figure it out.”
(1/2)
Willson Contreras said the first guy to call him when the deal was almost official was Wainwright. Said he joked that perhaps Waino and Willson might also get 300 starts together.
Kolten Wong said he's looking to start up a little friendly competition with Harrison Bader for who can steal the most bases in 2020. He wants both of them to push each other.
As for a number in mind?
He wants to see them both get to 30.
We spent months talking trash about the Cardinals being unwilling to make moves in an offseason that was simply begging for teams to be bold.
Then they went and acquired literally Nolan Arenado. Incredible flex.
What a stat from the broadcast.
Catchers in baseball history with a thousand hits in a ballpark.
Yogi Berra, Yankee Stadium.
Yadier Molina, Busch Stadium III.
4/21/06: Albert Pujols earns his 1000th hit in a win over the Cubs at Busch Stadium.
7/29/11: Albert Pujols earns his 2000th hit in a win over the Cubs at Busch Stadium.
5/4/18: Albert Pujols earns his 3000th hit for LAA... as the Cardinals beat the Cubs at Busch Stadium.
@JaneDueker
Did you see an assault? I saw a reckless officer driving into a building but haven't seen an assault on video. Fortunately the officer had a body cam so I'm sure he'll be able to prove there was an assault.
The Cardinals swept the Cubs in four games at Wrigley Field, by one run each game, with dramatic late inning heroics each time, to guarantee a playoff berth and a better record than CHC in 2019.
It literally does not get any better than that.
Chatting w/ Cardinals fans at a local Jupiter eatery, they regaled overhearing a fan tell Willson Contreras they were sending a photo of him to their Cubs fan friend, who would cry upon seeing it.
As the story goes, Willson replied 'they're going to be crying for a long time'
Willson Contreras coming through with a knock in his first AB back at Wrigley is probably the best thing you possibly could have hoped for him in the midst of everything going on.
Albert's wife Deidre says about the homer on the broadcast to
@TheCatOnFox
: "That probably was the most special thing I have seen in his whole career."
Wow.

Adam Wainwright on the postgame:
"I don't know what to tell y'all. I don't know what to tell our fan ba--What do I tell 'em? Yuh know? What do I say? What can I say?"
Damn.
Contreras said he was still busy celebrating his second HR of the night when a teammate, no idea which one, alerted him that the crowd wanted the curtain call. He said it was his first since his MLB debut. Joked like he wasn't entirely sure where to even go it had been so long.
A Mizzou tutor cheated for 12 athletes without the knowledge of the dept. MU said yes she did this. NCAA handed out postseason bans to 3 Mizzou sports.
Meanwhile, UNC had a FAKE CLASS taken by hundreds of athletes over the years. They lied to NCAA about it, and got no penalties.
The Cardinals bullpen tonight:
-7.2 innings
-4 hits
-1 BB
-0 runs
They gave the team every conceivable chance to pull off a miracle in that game. It won't really be remembered, but the Cardinals relievers were pretty incredible tonight.
Regarding MLB and Cardinals embracing Black Lives Matter, Adam Wainwright said that as a Christian man, he is called to love his neighbor. Once teammates like Dexter Fowler shared how much it would mean to have his support, it was an easy decision for Waino, he says.
From 2013-2015, the Cardinals won three straight NL Central titles. The Cardinals also did it from 2004-2006. The Astros did it from 1997-99. Someday, the Cubs might also achieve it.
I mean, not this day, of course. But someday, it could theoretically happen. I guess.
The St. Louis Cardinals have announced full capacity at Busch Stadium beginning June 14. Full capacity ticket sales begin May 27. It's happening.
Let's rock.
Cardinals swept the Yankees
They bested the Brewers, 2 of 3
Now they come back to beat the Braves, 2 of 3.
They've handled some good teams lately. Good omen for October?
I've defended a lot of the managerial moves that fans have deemed problematic in recent weeks.
Unless Nolan Gorman got shanked in the tunnel between innings, that's one of the most unbelievable decisions I've seen in a baseball game.
Mike Shildt on Yadier Molina, whose contract with the Cardinals has essentially expired: "I can tell you honestly, I hope like heck I see him in ST at 6 o'clock in the morning coming into our complex getting his work in. Because this guy's still got some baseball left in him."
There's literally no way to not be impressed by what the Cardinals just did today.
17 days since playing a game. You go and sweep a DH after not meeting as a team for days, arriving via bus and rental cars. Just going out and doing the darn thing.
St. Louis baseball is back.
Michie looks shell-shocked. He said in the house he could deal with America hating him, he kinda played it up, but when confronted with the reasons, I think it hit him pretty squarely there.
#BB21Finale
If the Cardinals want to twist the knife on the rest of the NL Central, they back up the Brinks truck for Bryce Harper, and they do it swiftly.
Could you imagine?
