He said he's anti-capitalism not anti-lockdown; that fear is a means of control and that modern life also makes lots of people ill. What's so confusing?
"An NHS worker on duty that night told the Observer that no officers were treated in the hospital designated for the police, whereas the hospital designated for protesters was inundated with injured people"

Concentration of power in London is ‘UK disease’ says outgoing Bristol mayor:
"He also said he believed the decision by the people of Bristol to scrap the post of elected mayor was a mistake."

Countering Colston said: “This is a great moment of hope for Bristol. For decades the democratic process to remove the statue failed.
"Not because of any doubt that it was harming our communities, but because of the influence of its defenders, the Society of Merchant Venturers"
CPS has destroyed all records of Keir Starmer’s four trips to Washington
"Asked for clarification – and whether the destruction of Starmer’s Washington documents was routine – the CPS did not respond."
""It is shameful that Bristol City Council did not take down the statue of slaver Edward Colston that had caused such offence to people in Bristol and equally shameful that they then supported the prosecution of these defendants”
In 2016 when Rees was elected a Band D council tax bill was 1,721.25. It's now £2,460.32. A 43 per cent increase. Anyone out there think they're getting 43 per cent better services?
NEWS JUST IN!!! Bristol City Council CEO Mike Jackson has quit! Councillors informed today. The great communicator is fucking off before the shit really hits the fan. (Did he see Twitter this weekend?)
There are 17 TUSC candidates running in Bristol's local elections. If you want socialists in the council chamber speaking out against public service cuts, vote for a socialist party. Check candidates here:
BARTON HOUSE: HOW BADLY HAVE REES AND BRISTOL CITY COUNCIL FUCKED UP THIS TIME? <Why did the Rees administration disregard government advice for 6 years & allow a building to deteriorate to the point where 400 residents had to be evacuated at short notice
Still not clear where they would move the library to. Consequently hard to see how it will save money. Large buildings need to be rented, built or bought. We get the current council owned one for free.

he's going to "throw his hat into the ring" to become the City's 5th MP at the next election. A new constituency (Bristol North East) is being created, whilst his term as Mayor ends in 2024....

If he kept the libraries open, sorted the potholes, delivered arenas and mass transit and brought arts centre renovations in on budget, you may have a point. But why ponce atround 'the world stage' (basically attending obscure conerences) when you can't do the basics?
Quote from Marvin Rees. "When I was [in Rwanda], one of the ministers from Zambia came up to me and said ‘we’re proud of what you do in Bristol’."
If only the people in Bristol could agree with this sentiment ! Rees is delusional, lacks any sense of humility or self-awareness !

BCC accounts reveal a tasty little salary uplift for the boss of Bristol Waste, up from £105,534 to £124,774. That's an 18% pay rise. The rest of BCC staff got 2%. 'We're all in it together'

Now that the sordid Society of Merchant Venturers are back in the news again, I wonder if the press are going to report on how their education wing, the Venturers Trust settled a libel action after calling Christine Townsend and activists "terrorists"?

The Colston statue should have been removed years ago and put in Bristol's MShed museum with the displays on slavery. Perhaps it's all the more poignant that he goes there now in a battered and tarnished state.

You need to be bringing people and the city together, not have a public slanging match with the residents' union. Really embarrassing. Show some leadership.
It is estimated that nearly half of public land in Britain has been sold off since the 1970s, and that more than 4,000 public spaces and buildings are being sold off every year in England alone
"The mayoral system is only interested in getting things done which involve wearing a hard hat and hi-viz. It’s not about getting things done like sorting our SEND (special educational needs and disabilities), or adult social care or libraries."

"We deserved to lose Eurovision. I don’t know who came up with the idea of Bristol bidding to stage the Eurovision Song Contest but it was a futile time-wasting political stunt with a snowball’s chance in hell of success."
Marvin Rees said in his final major speech as Bristol mayor this evening that he has been left with a greater sense of belief in the authenticity of some Merchant Venturer members than some anti-racist and social justice activists
Barton House BbcWest Q: Do you feel you the council have handled it as well as you could have ? Marvin Rees : “ I think we’ve tried to handle it as well as we could have , I mean , what do they say ? No plan survives contact with the real world ..”
If they can make small traders reveal their income to them. How come the council can't get their own interim managers to reveal their incomes for a public pay policy?
If you make a property developers' stooge chief executive of your council, of course they're going to spend taxpayers money destroying and preventing the commons and common land. Private land is where the money is.

In the BCC meeting today, an ACORN Member and Barton House resident said to

Colston Four: to sum up the prosecution case: they spent 3 days proving the defendants had pulled down the statue, which they have admitted anyway and then pointed and said, "ooh look, they broke a bit of pavement".
