We are supremely grateful to a Muslim colleague of our sonβs, who has taken on his ward today and tomorrow so he can have Christmas with us, in return for him doing her shifts on a weekend in the new year. She has truly blessed our family ππππ
Just seen my son off to work. Yesterday he ended his period of isolation after developing symptoms. Today heβs back on the front line as a doctor on the respiratory ward, caring for positive Covid19 patients. Pray please for him and all his wonderful
#NHS
colleagues.
It was announced this morning that the Bishop of Leeds has appointed me to be the next Archdeacon of Halifax. Iβm humbled, delighted, excited, and of course very sad that it involves leaving my parishes here in Stockton-on-Tees.
If you have some to offer, spare us a prayer!!
#MorningPrayer
βWhat do you think Jesus did
on Holy Saturday?β,
asked the priest.
A child said:
βI think he went and searched
the darkest, coldest corners of Hell,
looking for his friend Judas,
to love him into lifeβ.
Lord, may we
know and show your love
that brings us to life.
Reading a book yesterday, which suggested that the key to greatness lies in getting four aspects of your life in balance - the Physical, the Intellectual, the Emotional, and the Spiritual.
It was while making notes that I saw it.
Yes folks, the key to greatness is β¦ PIES
Sad to see so many people proudly announcing theyβre going on a social media break till after Christmas. To many disabled, isolated or lonely people, this is their main means of interacting with others. We at
@DisabilityJ
will keep on tweeting throughout Christmas. Blessings!
Iβve been reflecting on the
#QueensSpeech
for a few hours now, and I can honestly say that was a most uplifting, in touch, faith-filled, hopeful and genuinely Christian message. Thank you Maβam. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness cannot overcome it!
@RoyalFamily
Like many others, Iβm wearing my
#ChristmasJumper
today. This one features an actual image of life at the North Pole at midnight on Christmas Day. It was taken with the lights turned off for atmosphere.
#MorningPrayer
βWhat do you think Jesus did
on Holy Saturday?β,
said the priest.
βWell,β said the child
βI think he went and searched
the coldest, darkest corners of hell,
looking for his friend Judasβ.
Lord, help us to know
that we are never
beyond the reach
of your love for us.
My mother painted this - sheβs flourishing as an artist, despite never having picked up a paintbrush till 4 years ago when she entered her 70s. She takes some convincing that sheβs any good - though I think sheβs fab. Myself, I canβt even draw the curtains properly!

Just the annual reminder of the best answer ever, to the question βWhat did Jesus do on Holy Saturday?β
This from a 9 year old -
βHe went and searched the deepest, darkest, coldest corners of hell, looking for his friend Judas...β
<something in my eye>
34 years ago today was my last full day as a single man; the next day Iβd marry this wonderful woman. In case Iβm distracted tomorrow (Sundays being full on for a priest) I want to say thank you to Angela for everything she is, and to let all of you know that I love her to bits.

The best train announcement I ever heard (on a packed, standing-room-only train, again in the UK):
βWe apologise for the overcrowding on this service; this is due to the large number of passengersβ
Made everyone smile anyway.
As a native of Tyneside, please permit me the Geordie Easter Acclamation today...
Eβs not heah- Eβs rose up like!
WHY AYE MAN!!!

#HolySaturday
- what was Jesus doing?
A young lad in our Sunday School nearly 30yrs ago had an answer: βJesus was searching the coldest, darkest corners of hell, to find his friend Judas and tell him he loves himβ.
Wow.
#MorningPrayer
Alleluia! Christ is risen!
New life erupts from the tomb
and bursts out upon the world.
Mourning becomes dancing,
fear is overcome by love,
despondency by hope,
confusion by revelation,
despair by faith,
grief by joy.
Transform us
in the joy
of new life!
Alleluia!
Well folks, it cometh. We have symptoms in our house, so weβll be in lockdown for 7-14 days (depending on when each of us develops symptoms. As best as I can, Iβll keep up with prayer and work at home & do live-streaming from here.
#MorningPrayer
Lord, you wept
for love of Jerusalem;
hear us as we today weep
for the land of your birth,
the land we call holy.
Bring to all,
whether Israeli or Palestinian,
whether Jew, Muslim,
Christian, or none,
the blessings of
your peace and justice,
your mercy and love.
Few things more profoundly priestly than being called out just after Christmas Morning Mass to go and administer Holy Unction to a dying man. A privilege to be able to offer peace, prayer & promise, and to bless him and his family.
#MorningPrayer
We awaken, Lord,
to a world which
feels strange;
a world without
one of the constants
we knew,
a world where
much is changing,
and in which
certainties are,
for many,
a distant dream.
Reassure us
of your constancy,
and anchor us
in your love,
whatever life brings.
Itβs been a tough day for one reason or another, and now weβre in bits as
#CalltheMidwife
reminds us of the realities at the edge of life. Glorious TV, superb writing. Thank you.
#MorningPrayer
On the Cross, Lord,
you open your arms
to embrace us
and all the world,
to gather all people to you;
to accept the burden
of all that is wrong or unjust,
to overcome it with love.
Give us grace and space
to ponder your
unlimited love for us,
and to live it for all.
Please people, I beg you...
...today is HOLY Saturday - the Saturday in Holy Week.
NEXT Saturday is EASTER Saturday - the Saturday in Easter week.
Whatβs in a name? Only the resurrection, thatβs all.

#MorningPrayer
βIf you knew
you had hours to live,
what would you do?β,
they ask.
Lord, you knew.
You washed feet.
In a world
where many
fear for their lives,
in a world
where many
look away,
give us your heart
for each other;
inspire us
to serving,
to loving,
to Christlikeness.
A good news story: my son told me that yesterday, as they cared for all the Covid19 patients, the ward received a delivery of pizzas for the staff from a local takeaway as a thank you gift. It really lifted their hearts. Come on takeaways of Britain: make this a thing every day!
#MorningPrayer
Give us, Lord,
your passion
for the margins,
for the edges,
for addressing
those areas of life
where borders
and boundaries
still make people
feel excluded,
or hinder
their engagement
with you.
Inspire us
to work with you,
to tear down barriers
and share your love.
#MorningPrayer
In a world of hatreds,
Lord, teach us to love;
in a world of discord,
teach us to seek harmony;
in a world of division,
teach us to seek relationship;
in a world of dispute,
teach us to seek resolution;
in a world of wars,
teach us to make peace.
Teach us your way.
#MorningPrayer
Alleluia! Christ is Risen!
As we joyfully proclaim
your resurrection, Lord,
may we open ourselves anew
to the life you have won for us,
the love which overcomes all things,
and welcomes us into
the light of your kingdom.
May our lives proclaim
βHe is risen indeed!β
#MorningPrayer
Lord, when
our lifeβs journey
takes unexpected
twists and turns,
when we are forced
into a diversion,
or when the road ahead
is blocked
by change, chance
or circumstance,
help us to know
that you remain with us,
that you remain faithful,
and you will guide us home.
#MorningPrayer
Give us, Lord,
such faith,
such trust,
such hope in you,
that we have the courage
to face whatever life brings,
safe in the knowledge
that your picture
is bigger than ours,
your perspective
wider than ours,
your understanding
deeper than ours,
and that you hold us.
#MorningPrayer
As we greet the dawn
of new life, Lord,
remove the stones
from our hearts
and let your love
pour out from us.
May the joy
that burst from the tomb
on Easter morning
infuse and inform our lives;
may we shine
with your light
for all to see.
Alleluia!
Christ is risen!
#MorningPrayer
Keep us, Lord,
from having
such a preoccupation
with ourselves
that we see others
only in terms of
what they can do
for us.
Give us instead
the gifts
of compassion
and selflessness,
that we may begin
by seeking
the common good,
and a perspective
wider than our own.
#MorningPrayer
Give us grace, Lord,
that we might
come to you
not with a list
of our demands,
our desires,
our requests;
but with hearts
minds and souls
open to your will,
your intentions,
your prompting,
your call.
Help us,
as disciples
and as church,
to discern
and follow
you.
#MorningPrayer
Lord, give us
not just a belief
in the fact of your resurrection
but a trust in the reality of it,
a hope in the truth of it,
a joy in the meaning of it,
a life in the effect of it,
a role in the sharing of it,
a peace in the light of it
and your love in all of it.
#MorningPrayer
Lord,
when squalls and storms
disrupt our journey,
when plain sailing
turns into precariousness
and puzzlement,
when we are reminded
that the ocean
is big and powerful
and our boat feels
small and fragile,
reassure us
of your presence,
your promises,
and your love.
#MorningPrayer
As we begin a new year, Lord,
we place our hands in yours,
that we might follow
your leading and guiding
in all we do.
As we journey onward,
help us find your paths
of peace and justice,
of mercy and truth,
of faith, hope and love,
that all may know
your blessings.
#MorningPrayer
Good Shepherd,
deepen our
relationship
with you,
that we may
not only
hear your voice,
but listen;
not only
recognise
your presence,
but follow.
May we embrace
the life you offer,
and hear your prayer
that we may be one flock,
with one Shepherd,
flourishing in you.
#MorningPrayer
In the storms
of life, Lord,
when all seems
to swirl about us
and our future
is unclear,
fill up our faith
and keep our focus
on you and
your promises.
Like Paul on
a storm-tossed ship,
like Peter in
a dark prison cell,
may we know
that you are
holding us,
always.
#MorningPrayer
Help us, Lord,
when others wish
to encounter you,
to be ready and willing,
able and equipped
to guide them to know
your presence and your love.
More than this,
help us also
to show your love so fully
in our own lives,
that your presence
in and among us
is manifest.
#MorningPrayer
Give us, Lord,
confidence and courage
in our relationship with you,
that we may be ready
to acknowledge you
and own our faith
before others;
but so fill us
with faith and love
that it shines out
from our lives
without words,
showing all
that we are
your disciples.
I knew of a priest who got regular calls from a retired Brigadier at mealtimes which always began βAh PADRE- knew youβd be in!β
So one night the priest rang him at 3am and said βAh Brigadier- knew youβd be in!β
The calls stopped.
#MorningPrayer
Keep us, Lord, from
forming our opinions,
making our decisions,
or rushing to judgments
based on our
limited perspectives
and our partial understanding.
Keep us prayerful;
always open to your guidance,
always ready to follow your lead,
that we may love
as you love.
#MorningPrayer
Today, Lord,
we find ourselves
gathering fragments;
fragments
of memory,
fragments
of opportunity,
fragments
of understanding,
fragments
of love.
We bring
our fragments
to you,
the restorer,
renewer
and replenisher
of all life:
we find
we have
baskets full
of hope.
#MorningPrayer
Draw us to you, Lord,
that the thirst
of our hearts and souls
may be satisfied.
Fill us with the living water
of your kingdom
and let that living water
overflow from us
to the people and the world
around us.
Begin anew in us Lord,
and let your love
flood the world.
#MorningPrayer
Give us the grace, Lord,
the inner strength of faith,
the spiritual stamina we need,
to bear well the cost of our discipleship.
Whether this dayβs journey is easy or hard,
whether we face opportunity or opprobrium,
help us remain true
to your call and
your kingdom.
#MorningPrayer
In your great love, O Lord,
for us and for your creation,
you emptied yourself
to become one of us,
a human being yet God.
Give us the grace
to love one another
as you love us,
driven not by
self-serving greed,
but by a desire
for the wellbeing
and blessing
of all.
#MorningPrayer
βIt is betterβ,
said Caiaphas,
βthat one man
should die
for the peopleβ.
Keep us, Lord,
from the
narrowness
of thought
that would
sacrifice people
on the altars
of profit,
or prejudice,
or policy,
or purity.
Fix our eyes
and our hearts
on your image
in each person.
#MorningPrayer
Lord, give us this Lent
the wisdom and strength
to release our hold
on the things of the world:
wealth, status, power;
that we may not be
enslaved by them.
Turn our hearts
to the things
of your kingdom:
grace, mercy, peace;
that we may reveal
your love,
your life.
#MorningPrayer
We pause, Lord,
and we reflect,
as we lay
a Queen
to rest;
commending her,
with all who have died,
to your keeping,
O King of Kings.
May the example
of loving devotion
to duty and calling,
be an inspiration to us,
as daily we seek
to serve
one another
in your love.
#MorningPrayer
Help us, Lord,
to keep our focus;
not on position or privilege,
not on function or faction,
not on status or standing
in the eyes of others,
but on our belonging
in and to you.
As we share
in the life you offer,
so may we
show your love
in the business
of each day.
#MorningPrayer
Save us, Lord,
from becoming people
who love to develop
clever arguments
to debate and discuss,
more than we love other people.
Save us from becoming people
who love to be seen and lauded,
more than we love
being quietly generous.
Inspire our desire
to be like you.
#MorningPrayer
Encourage us, Lord,
to invest ourselves in listening to you,
that we may learn to know your voice,
to recognise your call,
to hear your word,
to perceive your presence,
to welcome you as our shepherd,
to follow you where you lead,
and to embrace the life you offer.
#MorningPrayer
Living Word,
who spoke creation
into being,
who sustains
and renews
our life
by your life,
whose voice of love
cries out from
crib and cross,
whose new life
burst forth
from empty tomb
to renew all things,
may we open
our hearts,
our minds,
our lives,
daily to you.
#MorningPrayer
Give us grace, Lord,
to welcome you
into our lives,
and into the lives
of our churches
and communities,
as king;
king of love
and king of peace.
Help us to listen to your voice,
not just the echo of our own,
and truly to be your people
for your world,
your kingdom.
#MorningPrayer
You go before us, Lord,
in the fullness of
your risen power,
to call us onward
to where you
would have us be;
give us
confidence, boldness,
eagerness and joy
in the new life you offer,
so we may
faithfully follow
your leading,
and show the world
your life and love.
#MorningPrayer
Whatever we face
this day, Lord,
be it opportunity
or challenge,
blessing or burden,
delight or difficulty,
remind us and
help us to know,
that you are with us,
that you share our life
in all its variety,
as you share
your life with us.
May your love
light our way.
Joining the prayers tonight for all struggling with Covid19, including the Prime Minister. Found out today that my aunt contracted it a few days ago, and has sadly died. RIP Auntie Irene. Prayers for all the family.
#MorningPrayer
Hold before us, Lord,
our vocation:
not merely
to be your people,
but also to bear fruit
for your kingdom,
to serve you
not only with our words
but also in our deeds,
in our choices,
in our priorities,
in our willingness
to follow your lead,
and to show your love.
#MorningPrayer
As we grapple
with the realities
and hardships
of life, Lord,
help us both
to be aware of
and to recognise
your presence with us;
both to hear
and to follow
your guidance.
Let us find in you
both nourishment
and healing,
that we may
know your love,
and live it out.
#MorningPrayer
Develop in us Lord,
the confidence,
the courage,
the commitment,
and the character
to share our faith
in word and deeds;
help us to appreciate your love,
which binds us into
one people, one family,
that we may live out that love
for one another,
and be your church.
#MorningPrayer
We mourn, Lord,
the violence and hatred
which can kill even
the author of life;
we lament that
such sinfulness
is rampant
in our world today.
Inspire us, we pray,
to seek peace not division,
harmony not discord,
healing not hurt.
Bring us life;
for today,
we wait.
#MorningPrayer
In the storms of life,
Lord, help us,
when we feel
the wind and waves
assail us,
if the course
we expected
suddenly veers
in another direction,
and we lose our bearings,
to have the assurance
of your presence with us,
your peace within us,
your love surrounding us.
#MorningPrayer
Lord, inspire in us
the faith
that kept Mary Magdalene
close to you,
even when all seemed lost;
the openness to you
which enabled her
healing and peace;
the generosity by which
she gave all she had
in your service;
the courage that made her
Apostle to the Apostles.
#MorningPrayer
So fill us with your love, Lord,
that we are inspired and enabled
to become more like you;
compassionate, kind,
patient, forgiving.
Teach us your ways
of mercy and peace,
that we may live them
for the world,
building your peace
where there is
division and
discord.
#MorningPrayer
You know us, Lord,
inside out and deep down;
you know who we are
and what we have done,
good and bad,
and yet your love for us
remains stronger than death.
Give us confidence
to stand before you as we are,
to receive your
forgiveness and love,
to follow your call.
Today marks 3 weeks of isolation without sugar. Walking 3 miles a day, no meat, dairy or flour. The change has been fantastic! I feel great! No alcohol, healthy diet, 2 hour workout each day! Lost 30 lbs! (No idea whose status this is, but proud of them so copied & pasted... π€ͺ)
#MorningPrayer
Save us, Lord,
from our desire
to be self-reliant,
from the anxieties
that lead us
to insulate ourselves
from others,
from our tendency
to seek security
in what we have
rather than who you are.
Help us to offer you
what we do have,
and know your
blessing and peace.
#MorningPrayer
Fill us, Lord,
with your passion
for justice.
Fill us with desire
to see things
as they should be.
When the rich
and powerful
oppress and exploit
the poor
and vulnerable,
give us boldness
of speech
and clarity
of action,
that we may
show your way
to a broken world.
Over breakfast: wife and son across the table both wearing their
#NHS
IDs ready to go & do their thing. Other son gets out of isolation this week and planning to volunteer as an emergency driver for
@BCTAspire
supplying vulnerable people. Iβm proud of (and anxious for) my family.
#MorningPrayer
Clothe us, Lord,
with the qualities
of your kingdom.
Instil them
within our hearts,
that we may be ready
to meet what life brings us,
in a spirit of Christlikeness:
standing for truth,
working for justice,
building peace,
seeking the common good,
showing your love.
#MorningPrayer
You call us, Lord,
to glorify your name
by the lives we lead,
by the words we say,
by the attitudes we foster.
Help us to do so
by showing compassion
and kindness,
by bearing with one another
with grace,
by seeking and making peace,
by loving others
as you love us.
#MorningPrayer
Infuse, Lord,
our souls,
our hearts,
our minds,
our whole lives,
with the new life
your resurrection reveals.
Like yeast in the dough,
may your love
so permeate our being,
that the life
of your kingdom
impacts, informs
and influences
everything
we do, say,
and are.
#MorningPrayer
Open our eyes, Lord,
that we might see
the intrinsic and
infinite value
of each life
as you do;
whether
young, old,
rich, poor,
inspiring
or irritating;
whatever the
colour, creed,
gender or
shoe size:
keep us from
treating others
as βthemβ,
for there
is only
βusβ.
#MorningPrayer
As we journey, Lord,
keep us always ready
not only to offer
hospitality to others,
but also to have
the grace to receive it;
not only to offer
guidance and wisdom
to others,
but also to have
the humility
to listen and learn:
so, may we all
be built up
in your love.
#MorningPrayer
Give us a boldness
in our faith, Lord;
not an arrogance,
nor a boastfulness,
but a confidence
and an assurance
in your love,
that shines
through
all we are,
all we say,
all we do.
May our lives
reveal a glimpse
of you and
your kingdom,
to each person
we encounter.
#MorningPrayer
You are ready, Lord,
to take us as we are
and work with us,
to fashion us
and mould us
into the people
you created us to be,
as a potter
carefully and lovingly
works with the clay
to reveal the beauty within.
Help us to trust in, and yield to,
your creative genius.
#MorningPrayer
Deliver us, Lord,
from our passion
for self-indulgence,
from believing
that our position
must be yours,
that our own
perspectives
and preferences
give us an
understanding
of your will.
Keep us instead
open to your Spirit,
to being changed
by your wisdom,
your love.
#MorningPrayer
Remembering
our vocation, Lord,
to value people
and make use
of things,
rather than
the other way round,
help us
to take the focus
off ourselves,
off our own sense
of self-importance,
and seek
the common good.
Bring us
to love you
and our neighbour,
as you love us.
#MorningPrayer
You willingly offer
your very self
for love of us, Lord,
and yet we are
all too ready,
in myriad ways,
to betray that love
and look out for
our own interests
at the expense of others
and of our closeness to you.
Nurture your love in us,
that we may live it for all.
#MorningPrayer
Bless us, Lord, in our woundedness,
for we are all wounded in various ways;
grant us to know that we do not have to get rid
of the things about us that bear those wounds,
in order for us to be acceptable to you.
Help us to remember that you bring
healing and peace.
#MorningPrayer
Give us, Lord,
the mind and
understanding
to see your image
in every person
we encounter,
and to honour that
by the way we relate
one to another.
Help us to appreciate
your infinite love
for each person
and to reflect that
in the love we show.
May we be
Christlike.
#MorningPrayer
Give us courage, Lord,
to share with others
the love we receive from you,
the life we enjoy in you.
Inspire our decisions
and guide our journeys;
may we meet
the people we encounter
with your light in our eyes,
your truth on our lips,
and your peace in our hearts.
#MorningPrayer
In your great love, Lord,
you know us;
deeply, intimately,
better than
we know ourselves.
In knowing us,
you call us
to be your disciples,
to learn from you,
to be sent by you,
each with bespoke roles
in your kingdom work.
Help us to respond
in love, trust and joy.
#MorningPrayer
Give us wisdom, Lord;
but not the wisdom
of the world,
of cleverness
or cunning,
of knowledge
or pride.
Give us rather
the wisdom
that sees
your image
in each person,
the wisdom
of loving,
giving,
serving;
the wisdom
that is open
to your Spirit,
your guidance,
you.
#MorningPrayer
Free us, Lord,
from the prison of our own
preconceptions and prejudices,
that we might see and understand
what you are doing in our midst,
what your Spirit is saying to us,
where your light is leading us.
Save us from our own expectations
that we may embrace yours.
#MorningPrayer
In the message
brought by Gabriel
to Mary, Lord,
and in the βyesβ
that she gave,
the promise of salvation
was made real;
your grace and glory,
your life and love,
infused the world.
May we show
the same openness
to your call
and trust
in your purposes
in our lives.
#MorningPrayer
Help us to see, Lord;
help us to see through your eyes,
to see your image in each other,
to see the opportunities you bring
for wholeness, for that peace
which the world cannot give.
Help us to see past
our own biases and understanding
to the richness of your love.
#MorningPrayer
You chose
your apostles, Lord,
with much prayer,
with great care,
with thoughtfulness,
and with love.
Remind us always,
that you also choose us
before ever we choose you,
that we are held in your heart
as they were,
that we too are sent
to share your love with all.
#MorningPrayer
Lord,
you call us
to greatness;
but greatness
in the economy
of your kingdom,
not of the world.
Encourage
and inspire us
to greatness
of service,
of welcome,
of inclusion,
of justice,
of mutuality,
of hopefulness,
of love.
Enable us
to be great
in Christlikeness.
#MorningPrayer
Give us
a passion, Lord,
for doing
the right thing,
for doing
what should be done,
that in
offering ourselves
in your service,
we may encounter
your risen life.
Guide us
by the light
of your kingdom,
surprise us
with the power
of your love,
inspire us
to share
you.
#MorningPrayer
Lord, remind us
that you gather us
around your table
not as a council
of perfection and purity,
but as sinners
in need of redemption,
needing healing
in ourselves,
our motives,
our relationships
and our understanding.
Give us grace
to see one another
as you see us.
