itβs decision day soβ¦ after two years and many rejections later, iβm INCREDIBLY excited to announce that in the fall, i will be attending the university of texas at san antonio as a phd student in the utsa/swri space physics graduate program with a focus in planetary science π₯Ή
Tomorrow, an incredibly rare, once-in-a-lifetime astronomical event is happening! Jupiter will be its closest to Earth since 1963! Along with opposition, itβll be SO bright, youβll be able to see its bands and some moons just with binoculars!
This wonβt happen again until 2129!
Tomorrow, NASA is making history by intentionally crashing a spacecraft into an asteroid to deflect it, testing a method of planetary defense (should an asteroid pose a major threat to Earth).
DART will crash into Dimorphos, (moonlet of Didymos), which poses no harm to us.
OH MY GOD!! THE EVENT HORIZON TELESCOPE HAS REVEALED STRONG MAGNETIC FIELDS AROUND THE EDGE OF SAGITTARIUS A*, THE BLACK HOLE AT THE CENTER OF THE MILKY WAY IN THIS BRAND NEW IMAGE!
GO OUT AND SEE JUPITER IN THE SKY TONIGHT!!
ITβS THE CLOSEST TO EARTH SINCE 1963 AND ITS IN OPPOSITION SO ITS REALLY, REALLY BRIGHT!!!
IT WONT BE THIS CLOSE UNTIL 2129!!!! THIS IS TRULY A ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME EXPERIENCE! ππ
The scientists working on James Webb were moved to tears when they saw the first full-color images from the telescope.
We are NOT ready for July 12th π
If you thought black holes werenβt scary enough, a black hole was discovered to be βburping upβ the remains of a star it shredded and consumed over 3 years ago. Nothing like this has EVER been seen before.
Iβve been seeing this account all over my feed lately and I just wanted to say that they blatantly spread misinformation and donβt credit any of the people whose photos they use.
Itβs really sad that so many people follow. It really does impact us science communicators.
Itβs already been over 100 days since JWST started unfolding the universe.
In honor of that, here are a few of the most spectacular images weβve gotten from it so far:
One week from today - March 28th, 5 planets (Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Uranus) will be visible and aligned in the night sky!!
Go see them if you can!
