China spent 70,000 crore rupees on sports ~ in just one year (2019) for 2020 olympic prep. India spent less than 1% of that - just 0.39% (375 crores per year from 2016-2020). This is the price of winning at the highest level.

India has political stability, low violence per capita, high FOREX, food-security, national sovereignty due to nukes, is socially conservative and under the moralizing auspices of dharmic morality. Just needs good industrial growth for two decades to be very comfortable.

Really incredible how there was zero scientific or technological progress in an Empire that was really as influential & powerful as the Ottomans at one point. A small village in Kerala outside Mughal control contributed more to mathematics than the entire Empire! How bizzare!
