London Assembly Member for Barnet & Camden. Cricklewood councillor. Community enthusiast. Labour & Cooperative. Promoted by Ammar Naqvi 38 Church Lane N2 8DT
Really pleased that the London Assembly has unanimously passed my motion on the Building Safety Bill.
Leaseholders did not cause this scandal.
It’s time to
#EndOurCladdingScandal
and remove the financial burden from leaseholders and the fire brigade.
#NotJustCladding
Disgusted to see the horrendous footage of clear antisemitism being screamed out of car windows in North Finchley.
I have contacted
@CST_UK
and
@metpoliceuk
.
Honoured to be the Labour candidate for the Barnet & Camden constituency on the London Assembly.
I have lived in both boroughs & called this area my home for the past twenty years. I look forward to working hard with residents and representing this area on the assembly.
Every time I have raised concerns from the Jewish community in the constituency I serve,
@SadiqKhan
has listened and been immediately supportive.
I am appalled by the comments from Susan Hall.
This is dog whistle politics from the Conservative candidate. Sadiq has a record to be proud of in standing up for Jewish Londoners, and Londoners of all backgrounds.
I’m hoping that the cladding scandal on the front of the Daily Mail is a turning point for the
#EndOurCladdingScandal
campaign. It’s a paper Conservatives fear.
Government handling has been appalling & it’s plain that leaseholders & co-owners should not be the ones paying.
For everyone asking, yes, I’m nervously waiting at the count. And no, I don’t yet have a result.
Thank you for the kind messages of support, I’m really touched by them.
You can follow the count live here-
I am relieved that the man who has phoned me 1000s of times and made repeated serious threats over the past 18 months has pleaded guilty to harassment and the sending threatening letters, communications and messages.

The new Leader of Barnet Council
@BarryJohnRawlin
setting out the new relationship with residents that
@BarnetLabour
will forge.
I’m ridiculously excited. We can’t wait to get to work!
I want to recognise the exceptional public service of my friend,
@Andrew_Dismore
who is retiring from front line politics after 39 years. Andrew has served as a Westminster councillor, an MP for Hendon and has been the London Assembly Member for Barnet & Camden since 2012.

Daughter and I went to Golders Green Library today, chip & PIN access only on Saturdays. Access denied, security guard couldn’t let us in or tell us the problem. Childs Hill Library closed Saturdays. Where is she supposed to go? She’s a GCSE student. 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎Barnet Council
Just to be clear, I will remain a councillor for my home ward Childs Hill, Barnet so long as residents will have me-next election is May 2022.
I’ve also been elected as the London Assembly Member for Barnet & Camden.
I will give both rolls my absolute best!
I have had so many heartbreaking conversations with Jewish friends and constituents over the past week.
Antisemitism has no place here in London, or anywhere.
I want Jewish residents to know how loved and valued they are by their friends and neighbours, including me.
London Fire Commissioner tells

@LondonAssembly
that 901 buildings in London have waking watches and number is rising. The financial impact on residents is enormous and it means extra work for rhe
@LondonFire
to ensure Londoners are safe in their homes.
Marvellous to welcome
@RachelReevesMP
to Barnet again!
The election is so close in Barnet, as someone who won a council seat by 2 votes, I know every vote really does count.
At 8AM after the count had finished,
@Keir_Starmer
came to Barnet. “Welcome to Labour Barnet” I said to him as he gave me a hug.
Barnet is under new management, working with residents and not against them.
So proud of
@BarnetLabour
. Now it’s time to deliver.
I've been campaigning for many months alongside residents to
#EndOurCladdingScandal
Thousands of leaseholders in Barnet & Camden have purchased flats with fire safety and structural defects. These people did nothing wrong, but now have to pay bills to fix the mistakes of others.
As the Assembly Member for Barnet & Camden, I am appalled that the Tory Leader of Barnet Council said in Full Council that violent crime in Barnet comes from neighbouring Labour boroughs.
Polls have closed.
Thank you to everyone who has worked so hard throughout the past months and years. Thank you to everyone who voted & those who worked in the polling stations.
Whatever the result, I couldn’t have had a better team, or stood in a more wonderful constituency.
The new Leader of Barnet Council
@BarryJohnRawlin
addressing the new Labour councillors and activists. “Victories happen because of hard work, over many years, by many people”
As the first Labour councillor for Childs Hill since the 1980s and the only Labour gain in Barnet in the 2018 election, I wrote to
@johnmcdonnellMP
sharing my concerns with him about tonight’s event with Jenny Manson due to take place in the ward where I live and represent. 1/3
After a year’s delay, it’s official.
It will be close in Barnet & Camden, be sure you’ve registered for a postal ballot.
I’ll work my socks off if elected to represent my very favourite part of the world.
I’m so lucky to have lived and worked in both boroughs.
Rachael on
#Newsnight
was brilliant. As with so many leaseholders, she’s become an expert on building safety defects and clearly articulated why it’s

I look forward to more details.

In the fortnight, I’ve been described as-
“a very persistent woman” by a council officer and
“an annoyingly good councillor” by a Barnet Tory councillor.
#winning
But first a selfie! Great to be out on the
#labourdoorstep
in my home ward, Barnet’s new Cricklewood Ward!
Thank you so much to our good friend
@TulipSiddiq
for joining us.
96 days to turn Barnet red!
It’s clear that Barnet Momentum exist to undermine the Labour Party and they are riddled with Antisemitism. If any of the people responsible for this are members of the Labour Party, they should be expelled immediately.
Zooming in- the “crazy pavement” cannot be repaired according Barnet Highways.
You rightly ask why. It’s….erm….because cars are parked on the pavement and their contractor can’t repair with cars there.
Speaking on
@BBCLondonNews
yesterday. The building & fire safety scandal continues to impact more people. There’s still no clear path out of it. The government must act so that people can live in safe homes.
Tenants & leaseholders must be protected from costs.
#notjustcladding
I am proud to have brought up children in Cricklewood, where they attended state schools and the local comp.
As long as my Conservative predecessor uses ‘housewife’ as an insult, he fails to understand our community! No wonder his party lost in May in Barnet.
#jogon
I met so many local heroes at the
#LeaseholdersTogether
rally today, in person and not on zoom.
I wish this had been under different circumstances. They all deserve their day in the sun and to be freed from the trap they are in.
#notjustcladding
Thank you to
@Sadiqkhan
@MayorofLondon
for including in his manifesto that he will take the action needed to ensure no leaseholder has to pay to fix fire-safety defects in their homes that they had no part
in creating.
#EndOurCladdingScandal
For anyone not familiar with the cladding, fire safety & building defect scandal, I highly recommend following
@EOCS_Official
. Their live tweeting of Parliament today is top notch.
If you are making a journey on the
@TfL
network, please remember that masks remain compulsory as a condition of carriage.
Covid rates are high and rising, let’s keep each other safe.
#WearAMask
Wonderful to join
@SadiqKhan
celebrating Diwali this morning at the inspirational Kingsbury Mandir, along so many wonderful councillors and elected representatives from Barnet, Brent and Harrow.
My sweet brother, Ken, is undergoing 5-8 hours of surgery in Nashville today following months of chemotherapy.
I hate being so far away at a time like this.
🙏for good news & healing. Grateful to his wife, their sons and community for looking after him so well.
#cancersucks
I dropped my phone down this slot drain at Cricklewood Station just before midnight. Huge thanks to Alina at the ticket office! Together, we retrieved it with a fork, knife, a curtain rod and a hook-although I did lose my pen in the operation.
Alina is my new hero ❤️Cricklewood.
Political parties are now allowed to campaign for the upcoming elections on 6 May, so long as we follow the rules to keep the public and ourselves safe from Covid.
Over the weekend, I was really happy to join
@Keir_Starmer
leafletting in his constituency of Holborn & St Pancras.
Tonight,
@SadiqKhan
turned up to break bread with pink in his hair from celebrating Holi.
He spoke about clean air, free school meals, building council homes & the importance of communities working together.
Sadiq is the Mayor for all Londoners as
@KrupeshHirani
reminded us.
Good to be back at Brent Central mosque tonight to break my fast with friends from across faiths and backgrounds - and say thank you for the vital role they play in supporting the local community.

#RamadanMubarak
I'm so lucky to be standing in such an amazing constituency. It would be an honour to represent Barnet & Camden residents on the London Assembly.
Polls open at 7am tomorrow. This election is so close. Your vote is vital.
Find your polling station here:
Just finished another evening of speaking with residents who are victims of the cladding scandal. Sadly, poor building quality often goes hand in hand.
“We already have sleepless nights. Taking additional loans means we will lose our homes.”
It’s not ok
#EndOurCladdingScandal
After a blistering attack on Barnet Conservative’s Capita contract and a series of failures, Cllr
@ArjunMittra
ends with “Capita are so useless, they couldn’t organise a piss up in Downing Street!”
Indeed.
Imagine voting against residents in an extraordinarily vulnerable position as those caught up in the
#BuildingSafetyCrisis
Residents who can’t move, can’t afford remedial works, and can’t pay increasing service charges.
Why go into public service with such distain? 👎👎👎
Having lost control of
@BarnetCouncil
, Barnet Tories have now voted against
#Caxit
(Capita Exit) at Policy and Resource committee. They still seem to want the Capita contracts.
Anyway, I’m delighted Caxit has begun.
Staff are resigning from Downing Street. Our 3 Barnet Conservative MPs refuse to call for Johnson to resign.
Faced with a law breaking PM who partied while constituents died alone, their silence is unacceptable.
I can’t wait to see Barnet turn red in 91 days.
I avoid publicly posting photos of my children, so here are her very proud parents at her graduation today! Way to go Miss C- Physics & Philosophy graduate, we can’t wait to see what the future holds, and mostly to have you back home for summer! ❤️
“Can we please get Piers Corbyn and his friends out of here?”
I hope this isn’t the highlight of my life in public service, but it was sadly necessary tonight.
Thank you again to all who attended in good faith tonight.
Polls are open!
Barnet and Camden residents deserve an Assembly Member who turns up and gets the work done.
That's why I'm asking for your vote.
Polling stations are open till 10pm. Find yours here:
I have put myself forward to be Labour's London Assembly candidate for my home seat of Barnet and Camden.
@Andrew_Dismore
will leave big shoes to fill when he retires. I can't wait to bring my passion for people, community empowerment and good public services to City Hall.
Andrew’s dedication to the fire service is second to none.
As an MP, Andrew helped to establish
@HMD_UK
.
Andrew is a champion of justice and fairness.
I thank him for his support throughout my campaign and for his support of
@BarnetLabour
and
@CamdenLabour
Happy retirement!
Wonderful and heartwarming commemoration of
@NeasdenTemple
’s 25th anniversary. Even online, it was beautiful. The collaborative action of the Hindu community, along with their charitable works continue to inspire and strengthen wider cohesion.
Looking forward to my next visit.
Today, London’s underground network is at 39% of pre-pandemic passenger load and our bus network at 59%.
With funding for
@TfL
heavily reliant on fares,
@SadiqKhan
is right that London needs more than just another short term deal from government.
We need to keep London moving.
Thank you
@EOCS_Official
for the opportunity to address this crowd. 5 years after Grenfell, you shouldn’t still be here organising these events.
We won’t go quiet until the built environment is safe and the victims are not the ones paying.
🚨BREAKING NEWS🚨 Taylor Wimpey are not progressing with some developments on TfL owned land, including Finchley Central & High Barnet stations.
Nothing is likely to be proposed in the immediate future. I am calling of TfL to work with local communities to shape future proposals.
Imagine being in a party where one of your most prized members continues with stuff like this? When are the
@BarnetTories
and
@RWeedenSanz
going to call it out?
Enough really is enough. There should be no place for rank sexism and classism in any political party.
@WhiteRibbon_UK
There are members of Jewish communities and neighbours like me who love and care about them that are concerned about antisemitism in our party. Tonight’s event will do nothing to soothe these fears, particularly in light of members of the press being banned. 3/3
@laurenhowellss
That you’ve been called “orange” and a “snowflake” by 2 separate Tory MPs tells us lots about them.
Clearly, yours was a joke. Their comments are not.
I am immensely proud to see that my friend
@anne_clarke
has held on to Barnet and Camden. She is a hard worker and community champion. After 39 years of political life I’m bowing out, but I know my former constituents will be extremely well served by Anne.
Absolutely heartbreaking and infuriating.
Barnet Council dithered, delayed and made this community feel so unwelcome.
So much love to my wonderful friends at the Markaz, who I wish every success in their new home. 💔
Left home yesterday 6AM to start early morning reminders to vote. Home 27 hours later.
Cricklewood won’t be forgotten by a Labour run Barnet. I won’t have it.
Delighted to join Alasdair on his first canvass as a
@UKLabour
member today. I have campaigned with Alasdair over the years on libraries and protecting our schools from cuts.
In 2014, we marched between Barnet libraries with a brass band!
Thrilled to have him on board! 🌹
