My column in Business Standard this morning: Filling the submarine gap. Given its aspiration to be the gatekeeper to the Indian Ocean, addressing India’s submarine deficiency should be a top priority for the new government.

The nail-studded rods — captured by Indian soldiers from the Galwan Valley encounter site — with which Chinese soldiers attacked an Indian Army patrol and killed 20 Indian soldiers. Such barbarism must be condemned. This is thuggery, not soldiering

Did I see prime minister @narendramodi redrawing the Sino-Indian border on TV today? Modi said nobody entered Indian territory. Has he conceded to China the Galwan River valley and Fingers 4-8 in Pangong Tso -- both on our side of the LAC -- and where Chinese troops now sit. 1/4.

The most shocking aspect of the Chinese intrusions is this: Many Indians clearly love @narendramodi more than they love their country. They would close their eyes and allow China to capture chunks of Indian territory, rather than admit such a thing had happened on Modi’s watch.

The @narendramodi govt has repeatedly said that INS Vikrant is a symbol of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. He’s shooting himself thru the foot. The Vikrant dates back to the first UPA govt that took power in 2004. By the time Modi was elected in 2004, INS Vikrant had already been launched.

Lies from @rajnathsingh , who claims: Record defence exports touch Rs 13,000 crore this year, 70% from private sector, 30% from public sector. In fact, much of these exports are civil aero components, NOT def items. Why lie, MoD? And why repeat those lies unquestioningly, media?

Just to clarify, the red line (marked CCL) denotes the post-May 5th “China Claim Line”, which is 1.5 km inside the Indian Claim Line (or the LAC as we see it). After June 6th, of course, the China Claim Line shifted to the Galwan estuary, with China claiming entire Galwan valley

Large Chinese camp in Galwan Valley, 1.5 km into Indian side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC), shown as the red line. There is no Indian camp in the Galwan Valley, after India agreed on June 6 to de-militarise the valley to where the Galwan joins the Shyok #CryBelovedCountry

Two front page reports in today's Indian Express highlight the India of today: The PM cannot get China to vacate Indian territory it has occupied... but will instead stage a spectacle to "liberate" Ram Mandir from Muslim control.

PLA & Indian troops to pull back by 1 km in Hot Spring and 2 km in Pangong Tso. Even so, China -- having intruded several km initially -- will remain in Indian territory. China has gained 1 km in Galwan, up to 3 km in Hot Spring and 10 km in Pangong Tso.

My rebuttal of "interview" of @Gen_VKSingh in which he has tried to prove his worth to the @BJP4India . Does he even understand that he is endorsing China's position, and undermining India's, while claiming that PLA has not intruded into Indian territory.

Modi @narendramodi supposedly "plogging" in Chennai (picking up garbage while jogging). Had his security pre-sanitized the cans and bottles he picked up? If not, it was a grievious security breach. If the garbage was pre-checked, this was an empty photo-op

Eid Mubarak to everyone, especially to my Muslim friends. May we quickly end this era of ugly anti-Muslim hatred and make India once again a country where all religions, creeds, castes etc live together in harmony. Eid Mubarak!

Why would they apologise? The bhakts and chamchas only did what they do: Recite the lines fed to them by their masters! But those masters, exposed by the relentless march of truth, don’t lose a minute of sleep over abandoning their chamchas, who are left standing by the wayside!

No serious analyst now disputes that China has changed the status quo on the Line of Actual Control by squatting on land India regards as its own. Maybe the handful of brave journalists and retired officers who raised this issue in early May deserve an apology from the trolls.

With Chinese troops on Indian soil, Parliament's Standing Committee on Defence today spent 1 1/2 hours discussing uniforms and rank badges. When @RahulGandhi demanding time wastage be stopped, he was shouted down. He walked out. Committee is clearly focused on national defence.

PM visits Ladakh a full 18 days after the Galwan border clash in which 20 soldiers died. In an unapologetic about-turn from his earlier statement that there are no Chinese soldiers on Indian territory... now he has warned China against its "expansionism"

Ground reports from Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh say that Chinese troops continue where they were, digging trenches and preparing bunkers above Pangong Lake and 3 points in the Galwan valley. No sign of pullout from Indian territory, despite Beijing’s statement y’day!

It was apparently too much to hope that the govt had come clean on the Chinese intrusions into Ladakh! The MoD has removed the document from its website. But thanks to Twitter, it lives on! Read below...

On the MoD website, @DefenceMinIndia admits Chinese "transgressions" across the LAC in Galwan, Hot Springs and Pangong. This disproves PM @narendramodi 's 19 June statement: "Na koi ghusa, na koi ghusa hua hai" (Meaning: Nobody has crossed the LAC). Why did the PM publicly lie?

You wouldn’t be aware, but PTSD comes from exposing oneself to danger and trauma. Sadly, medical aid is not going to cure you. The doctors haven’t invented a way to implant a spine into someone who is entirely lacking one!

The government is sending out one general after another to defend the Agnipath Yojana. Within the offices of @narendramodi , @rajnathsingh and @AmitShah , there seems to be a realisation of their utter lack of credibility. The simplest solution for them: Hide behind the uniforms!!

Why this reversal by govt? From earlier saying there are no Chinese intrusions into Indian territory... now Defence Minister @rajnathsingh is saying he cannot guarantee that PLA would vacate. Could Beijing have taken a tough line in diplomatic dialogue?

Amazing. There is no interviewer in this interview. There is only an interviewee... Eric Trappier... and two props: a Rafale fighter and the Editor of ANI, @smitaprakash . Not ONE SINGLE difficult question from her. The Ministry of Propaganda is alive and well.

For those who missed -- or couldn't access -- my piece in The New York Times. It tells you what brought India and China to blows in Ladakh... and which way the face-off is headed. Prime Minister @narendramodi likes being a strongman. Except with China.

Karan Thapar asks me the tough questions around my reporting of the Chinese intrusions. I tell him I'm quite comfortable being alone. I've been proved right all along so far. Govt continues putting out anonymous statements but hasn't contradicted me yet.

“Sitharaman said [Navjot Sidhu’s] hug with Pakistan’s army chief Qamar Javed Bajwa impacted soldiers back home.” This defence minister specialises in belittling her own — first HAL, then her army!! Lady, be advised that your soldiers don’t get demoralised so easily.
