I feel bad for moaning, but this is ridiculous. 7 of 8 games played between teams who were in the same pool (granted 2 are from the same country and didn't play each other). A totally avoidable and entirely predictable situation that again makes rugby look silly to casual fans.

Dan McKellar has just told me he’ll remember that win for the rest of his life. It has that feeling about it. And importantly - they can now see Leinster and La Rochelle as free hits. They are probably 90% of the way to qualifying, having rested a lot of key men before Exeter.

Felt a bit emosh today. I’ve never covered a sold out game, incredibly, and the noise was amazing. But really missed Bleddyn today - it’s the first time that press box has hosted a game without him in 35 years. He would have loved the atmosphere, and how well Tigers are doing.

I spoke with Bleddyn for about 15 mins on Monday. We agreed he was going to come back for the Sale game. I think the last words I said to him were “can’t wait for you to be back, Bled”. Other people knew him better and for longer, but I cannot tell you how much I cared for him.

Leicester win a game they should have won by a mile, but also should have lost. Huge boost for their top four chances. Kata and OHC immense, forward pack did their job and it was nice to see Tigers open it up and use the backs more. Why do they do it to us eh?

What Kevin Sinfield is doing for the #ExtraMile challenge is extraordinary. Ran 7km with him, one of 24 chunks. People lining the streets for a story that has clearly touched so many. It’s about Kevin, MND and Rob Burrow today, but I’m so glad I was able to join in a little bit.

Went straight from the show to have a drink on Bleddyn tonight. I have found the past day hard. Really hard. It has been overwhelming to see the messages from so many over the past few hours. Bleddyn was trending! He was a brilliant man, he deserved such an incredible response.

Remember Freddie Steward walking in to do an interview in March 2019. He’d just played 2 minutes against Sale, having been called up to play while doing his sixth form work. He was such a lovely bloke then. Two and a half years on, as a try scorer for England, he is still a joy.

Will never forget his debut vs Glos - a bloke I'd never heard of, two days off the plane, who just ran through them. He's just what Tigers fans like, hard-working, hard as nails, and one of the best ball carriers I've seen. He is such a genuine and decent bloke too. A real miss.

All I can think about is Bleddyn this morning. He would have loved Leicester’s season, but he would have loved yesterday more. The fact it was Freddie Burns, someone who plays with such character and personality, to win it with a drop goal, was his way of winning a final.

Tigers far from brilliant, but... Freddie Steward is an absolute star. The kick from near half way was the champagne moment of the season so far for me. In Henry, Tigers have found their second fly half. Plenty to take from it, and regardless, they beat Saints, which is enough.

I’ve thought about Bleddyn pretty much every day over the past year. I miss him hugely, but always think about how he would react to situations, how he behaved and conducted himself. It’s helped me so much, but oh how I’d love a long car journey with him again.

Leicester their own worst enemies, a performance strewn with errors and I’ll-discipline at key points. To be fair to McKellar the tactics were largely right, just individual mistakes were the killer. So frustrating, and Saints becomes huge now, for the wrong reasons.

Injury situation not good for Leicester. Richard Wigglesworth has just told me that “one player is returning, but we’ve lost a few more”. Hinted that a lot of younger players, perhaps those seen in Prem Cup, could feature this weekend.

A tip for all aspiring radio producers and presenters: double check you’ve got the kit you need. Otherwise a planned broadcast ahead of a European match, in a pub with Tigers fans, will be held in their utility room (where the internet is), with one fan and a rusty chandelier.

Leicester Tigers hooker Tom Youngs has announced his retirement from professional rugby. He made 215 appearances for Leicester Tigers, as well 28 Test caps for England and three for the Lions. He captained Tigers 98 times. Only Martin Johnson has led them on more occasions.

Leicester Tigers announce there will be a press conference tomorrow with Tom Youngs and Steve Borthwick for the game against Gloucester. That suggests the fixture is likely to go ahead, and the results of testing were good enough for the game to be played. Not definite though.

Porter and Cronin available for this weekend, Dan McKellar tells me, as is Tommy Reffell. Kata though is out for this weekend with a head knock, Kyle Hatherell out for a fortnight or so with a hamstring injury. The England lads will definitely be back for Derby day.

From what Geordan Murphy has just told me there is a chance of seeing Kini Murimurivalu for Tigers before the end of the season. Ends quarantine today, in training tomorrow. He’s been in a hotel though since arriving in the UK, so his fitness may have (naturally) taken a hit.

Last weekend was the first time Leicester Tigers and Leicester City have won a league game on the same weekend in the calendar year. The last time was 22nd Dec 2018 (Chelsea 0-1 City & Tigers 35-24 Harlequins).

Leicester end 2023 in the way in which they started really. Needing to basically win every game to get in the play-offs. They have to beat Bath don’t they? But this should be tasty. Sell out crowd, old rivalry. Should be a load of fun.

From that evidence Dan McKellar is not messing too much with the Tigers' way of playing. The forward pack looked at its nasty best and they were utilised a lot. But I noticed sharpness in the offloads, some crisp passing and nice combination play in the backs. Promising stuff!

It’s been strangely bitter sweet tonight. Tigers were entertaining, exciting and, more importantly, successful. It was such a thrilling game to watch, a privilege to be here. With 25,000 at WR, it would have been a simply extraordinary evening.
