This. Is. Terrible. The game is becoming unwatchable in all new ways. For the “it’s the rule” crowd, save it. You complained loudly when it wasn’t. This isn’t fantasy baseball. Players careers ride on these numbers. It’s embarrassing.
I don’t care what you say. The

So, we want to grow baseball. But, we
Limit the draft to 5 rounds
Cut minor league baseball affiliates/pay
Refuse to increase scholarships from 11.7
Refuse to add a 3rd paid assistant
Refuse to allow college baseball to recruit the summer, but allow football to practice

Pitchers: This is why self and situational awareness is important rather than rocking for velo only. Anyone who fights that comment is trying to sell you something. I promise this cat won’t make this mistake again. 👇🏽
The entire game needs to listen to this. Young players. Veterans. Those wanting to work in the game. The fans aren’t happy at all, and last night they let everyone know.
An hour after winning a national title in his last collegiate game....

No one asked him to, & he didn’t see me sneak this picture.
He just did what was right.

Another must listen. Everyone in baseball needs to hunker down and pay attention. If you want to play, listen. If you want to coach, listen. If you want to scout, listen.
Ben, it’s clear you’re showing the kid some love and that’s great. It’s also outstanding to see this back in the game after all the true outcome approaches forced on us all by analytic only front offices. With that, the new rules as constructed make it almost impossible to stop…

This is as It should be. Hard to disrespect a HOF, 5X WS winner, 100 X all star, with 3K hits who carried himself with dignity and class. True to who he is, he handled it like a pro.
Can’t be said better than this. I absolutely keep records. It doesn’t matter if it’s said privately, Im aware the moment it happens. It is absolutely personal from that moment on.
The fact they made fun of this swing approach in an iconic movie might serve as a reminder that when you do this, everyone’s wondering what’s wrong with you. Don’t do it.
This has been a long time in the making. So much went into this, not just writing it but the time spent with so many mentors as well as working across multiple levels and areas of scouting. This isn’t about my life in the game as a whole (that story is coming), but focuses on…

Heard from a college coach today: “I’m done committing guys that throw hard and can’t pitch. I need guys that can get outs.” When this happens we will see, but the sentiment is there.
Can’t quite hear this, but the hitter said “FU” to the pitcher. And to think we’ve got twitter personalities encouraging this behavior. Forget baseball, it’s just classless and if happened in life the response wouldn’t be much different.
Today we said goodbye to a great man. To the point as he was, my grandfather was 90 years old, black ops Korean War veteran, black belt in 7 martial arts, bench pressed 450 until he was 75. He told me I could sleep when I died. Well rest easy Grandpa, you earned it.
Scouting is having the vision, knowledge, and the instinct to see what each player will be at the end of their development regardless of present status. Anyone can see the obvious and scout them if they’re already good. Development must take that vision and make it reality.
Interesting view of Stephen Strasburg’s ball with different pitches. Key take away is the need to look as close as possible out of the hand. That’s deception.
Very happy for longtime family friend and mentor Ron Washington. It’s his first ring in a career where he’s impacted so many. Congrats Wash!

I’ve never been concerned with who likes me. if you’re making a difference or doing good things there will be haters. Some will make things up and go on amazing rants because they’re threatened. Good. Run laps in their head.
If everyone likes you, you’re not doing it right.

The minor leagues are filled with 450 foot power that only plays at 5 pm, 6.5 60’s that can’t steal bases or take hits away, and 95 MPH fastballs that look great in the bullpen but end up 456 rows deep in the seats. Those guys have no value. Better develop skills and execute.
This isn’t the players fault. He’s only doing what he’s been sold on doing. That said, this doesn’t work ever, under any circumstances. It’s not interesting, it’s sad. He’s eliminated before he starts because he listened to the group that sold it.

Direct result of the “show” mentality. Celebration and no execution. Hitter did it too, and neither runner scored. At some point, you have to actually play the game.
@BalandShaun
Knock it off. It’s a ridiculous unfair advantage to the pitcher with a penalty on the hitter when the pitcher isn’t ready. Ever had an at bat where your head needs to be right? If not then perhaps experience would benefit you.
Baseball Community: one of our own needs all we can send his way. He’s on life support and alive due to will and his grace. Prayers to his family and for a return to full health. Fellas, take care of yourselves and each other. We spend so much time together it’s a truly a family.
Somehow this kid was called Raw by a scouting group. That one will never ever be lived down. This kid hit a 92 MPH FB sinking away from him out to LF. Then called his shot on another FB and hit that out to Right. That’s the opposite of raw.
With all the high velocity college arms breaking, have to ask why. I got a guess, perhaps the over reliance on heavy velo programs and suspect mechanics or arm actions could be a reason? You can drive a straight line right to the cause.

There’s some good kids on the Tennessee team. It’s hard to swallow and has to be embarrassing to flip people off, curse at everyone possible, throw bats at dugouts, and then lose. Hopefully this group learns from it never to repeat the behavior again. Lots of talented kids.
@kevinc_262
Pitcher wasn’t ready or engaged. So you want the hitter to stand in and wait on him like a video game? Got it. Ever had an at bat that mattered? If not, try it and then speak on it.
And perhaps the most polarizing player in the last 40 years. This dude was a HOF before any suspicion surrounded him. Unapologetically himself and earned every bit of that latitude for me

On the 22nd day of social distancing, I’m reminded of a concept that holds true today.
Train in private. Shine in public.
Work harder than anyone can imagine, then multiply x 100. That work will be instinct. Show when it matters: when lights are on and the public is watching.
Been around Wash since I was 5-6 years old. He’s like an uncle to me. I can say this is very common of who he is as a person. Was great to see him in LA the last few days.

It’s never lost on me that we modeled today’s swing and miss dominant hitter after an era of players who didn’t swing and miss. This cat here is one of those trendsetters.
What’s the issue? Only reason not teach kids this is if you’re trying to raise soft people who expect society to give them everything, which isn’t how it works.
Can you imagine a HS teacher posting this negative message to their students?
Sums up the depressing state of way too many HS classrooms.
Athletic teams too.
We are reminded of two things with these contracts:
1. Starting pitching is the currency of the game. Not relievers, not raw velocity, starters.
2. Drafting/developing your players has never been more important, the need to do so never been so obvious.
These are absolutes.
Quick note. If a player wants to sign and will be paid an amount he’s comfortable with, then he should sign. Also, pro baseball can’t take back the bonus they pay the player or the money they pay for school. College scholarships are year to year and can be gone at any time.

Had a 16 year old with the kit to be good tell me “I’m not going to be 90-92, I’ve only been throwing a couple weeks.” My answer: I don’t need to see you throw hard, I need to see how it works.” The point: if you need to see a gun to know, then you can’t evaluate. Period.
