Pancreatitis is caused by Tityustoxin specific to the Tityus serrulatus scorpion family, which went extinct after researchers exhaustively hunted them down for research >a decade ago. So technically in 2020, “scorpion bites” is a wrong answer to “name a cause of pancreatitis”.

“Surgeons only know how to cut” Besides the fact that surgeons staff one of the sickest ICUs in the hospital (CSICU), surgeons need to know diseases inside out to decide when and when not to operate. In fact, <10% of Surgery board questions are technical in nature.

PSA for anyone who's critically appraising a qualitative paper: 1. There's no apriori hypothesis in qualitative studies. It's supposed to be hypothesis generating. 2. They are meant to dive into a specific population/setting for rich data. They aren't meant to be generalizable.

Three things I learned during my first week of surgery sub-I: surgery is the coolest (duh), 2 hour cases can easily turn into 8 hours cases (so don’t skip out on snacks beforehand), and abdominal anatomy is AWESOME #medstudenttwitter #anatomy #medtwitter #surgery
