No need to imagine:
Pic 1: Me with locs giving the valedictory address at my Uni graduation
Pic 2: Me addressing the United Nations with locs
Pic 3: Me being called to the Bar (I'm a Lawyer) with locs
Pic 4: Me with locs performing Royal duties for HRM Queen Elizabeth
My coworker has brought her child to work. He does not know my name. He is referring to me as daddy and I refusssseeeeeee to answer. So he is now shouting daddy at the top of his lungs. I am stressed out.
A bit late (in true Caribbean fashion), but today I crossed the Queen Mary University of London stage for my LLM in Public International Law.

I like apologies.
I don't think they have to be big extravagant spectacles. However, I think it is important to acknowledge that there was an issue and move on. I really don't like when people just show up and start being nice again.
Actually caring about people can be so frsutrating because even if they care about you, if it is not expressed in a way that resonates with you, you will easily feel neglected by the perceived lack of reciprocity.
Words can't express my gratitude for the love and support I was showered with yesterday. I knew the day was coming but noone could prepare me for that feeling of completion, accomplishment and pride. Left Antigua in 2012 to start UWI, 8 years, 3 countries and a few degrees later:
Not a Cave Hill student calling my office hoping to get a copy of an article I wrote on Direct Effect in the Revised Treaty of Basseterre for a paper they are writing. 🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈
"Are you Zachary Phillips?"
Your favourite "professional" student! Ready for the workforce! Coming to a Court near you! I give you the one the only!

For all you folks who did do more than 10 CXC's, not everyone thinks you are weird. Some of us are happy that you committed to a goal and followed through. Congratulations & all the best with your next success.
Today is my locs birthday. It's been seven whole years. Happy Birthday Loc-isha, Loc-arella, Loc-Ann, Loc-punzel and all the rest too numerous to mention
Your friendly neighbourhood Z Lion is now a published writer.
& I'm even more elated that my first piece of published writing is about two things I love: my home and an international treaty! Extremely happy & I hope this is the first of many.🙈🙌🏿😁

Disagree wholeheartedly. If you never discussed it beforehand and you springing it on her jusso you deserve the embarrassment. & If you did discuss it and you never get a vibe she would say yes then you wrong for planning this whole thing to pressure her.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Academic with another update:
A few months ago I posted that I had big news and I was waiting for it to be finalised so I could share. That news was that I been selected to present at the Commonwealth Law Conference being held in The Bahamas this year
Apparently Google can generate maps showing specific policies. I googled Caribbean countries with plastic bans and they have a whole colour-coded session ah gwarn.
I'm impressed.
Removing the Queen as the Head of State no matter what issues your country is facing shouldnever be trivialised as empty symbolism in my view.
It is as powerful a symbol as the flag itself & any other national paraphernalia.
It is a symbol that says this land is OUR land.
I may be in the minority but I don't think reparations should be given in a monetary form.
I think opportunities and services should be given that enhance the human resource directly.
Example: free tertiary level education within the UK to all Commonwealth Caribbean nationals.
Everyone has an accent btw.
You cannot hear your own accent because you are so accustomed to hearing it.
Similarly, if you need someone new and don't hear an accent their accent is probably very similar/identical to yours and that's why you don't hear it.
Your friendly neighbourhood academic with another announcement! Pleased to announce that I have been selected as an AOSIS Fellow! Extremely excited about this opportunity, this Fellowship will bridge the gap between concepts on paper and real world negotiations & solutions.🎉🙌🏿🎉
We also have to accept that at least in the Caribbean a cry for help is going to be subtle because we are taught from young not to tell people our problems and "be strong". So if someone really cannot manage it will be rare to hear them say so in direct terms.
One day I will make a LinkedIn but for now gonna share on the timeline that I was part of the team that successfully opposed an application for leave for judicial review of the mandatory vaccine regulation today & I'm proud of the team 👌🏿
Having problems in a relationship is not a bad thing at all. People are different for a variety of reasons and will not immediately agree on everything. But what should give you pause is having a problem in a relationship and feeling unable to express it to your partner.
The artistry of wire bending and stilt walking and even making mas costumes is being lost because these things aren't sexy.
Yes culture evolves and so too should cultural events like Carnival. But I don't think culture should be erased & I fear that's where we are heading
Since I started this "law thing". I always knew international law had my heart. This time next week I will be addressing an international tribunal and it feels like it's a dream.
All jokes aside though it is very clear that not every CARICOM territory incorporates regional information and history into their education system. To me this contributes more to the hindrances of integration than economies do. This fuels the xenophobia, this fuels the ignorance
So hear me out. What we all just sent a bunch of submissions that said "we want CARICOM to address intraregional travel".
I think if they have 100 submissions saying that it would paint a pretty clear picture.
CARICOM is having a competition to choose the slogan for the 50th anniversary celebrations. Deadline is September 9th, if you are interested check the website for the General Guidelines for participation, and for the Entry Form …
Is it so wrong to actually question the actions of your leaders. Is it so treacherous to query, comment or critique?
The blind approval of everything that is done is concerning more than anything else. Can we just move away from the opinion that criticism is something negative.
