Aardvarks can eat up 50,000 insects in a single night, and their name means “earth pig” in Afrikaans. Their burrows play an important role in protecting other animals during heatwaves and wildfires, providing refuge for around 27 other species including hyenas and porcupines.

Two baby yaks have been born at Whipsnade Zoo! Our keepers have a tradition of naming the yak family after characters from the beloved #HarryPotter books, and the magical new arrivals have been named Tonks and Cedric. #ConservationZoo

When two native brown long-eared bats were found injured, keeper Tyrone - who is also a registered bat carer for @_BCT_ - stepped in and took them under his wing. 🦇 After four weeks of dedicated care, the pair were then released back into the Zoo grounds:
