NFL and sports betting for Yahoo Sports. Finished 33rd in the Westgate SuperContest, 2017. My 2021 NFL picks finished 1st among 320 media members (SharpRank).
I don't take many victory laps. But allow me one.
@Sharp_Rank
tracked 320 media members making NFL picks for the whole season. I finished 1st.
According to
@tallysight
, I finished 1st of 365 in the regular season, then 2nd of 224 for just the playoffs.
It was a good season.
Steelers look at their options, decide to make a business decision and use the franchise tag: "Well that's just smart."
Le'Veon Bell looks at his options, decides to make a business decision and continues his holdout: "HOW DARE HE!"
Amazes me how everyone capes for management
Tom Brady throwing for 5,316 yards and 43 touchdowns, and leading the league in both categories at age 44, is one of the craziest things that has ever happened in sports history. We just have gotten so used to Brady doing this that it kind of went under the radar.
If you are a grown man making millions of dollars on the backs of the labor of 18-to-22 year olds playing a violent sport, you look like a total ahole when you complain about those 18-to-22 year olds getting any money. There's no way around that.
This might be the moment that leads to a real conversation about NFL officiating from within the league. Decker did what he was supposed to do. The ref missed it. That can't happen, esp on a play Campbell said he explained to officials before the game.
I'll keep repeating it every day: The NFL routinely taking $20,000 from its employees is robbery. I don't care what their checks look like, their careers aren't that long either and only a handful of guys make QB money. It's criminal and terrible. That's a lot of money, folks.
Just gonna leave this here. There are 13 men to win a regular-season MVP and Super Bowl MVP.
9 are in the HOF: Starr, Bradshaw, Montana, Allen, Emmitt, Steve Young, TD, Elway, Warner
3 are HOF locks: Manning, Brady, Rodgers
The 13th is Mahomes.
If Patrick Mahomes retired TODAY, would you vote him into the Hall of Fame?
• 2018 NFL MVP
• Super Bowl LIV champion
• Super Bowl LIV MVP
• 28-8 record (incl. playoffs)
• 89-20 TD/INT (incl. playoffs)
• 108.9 QB rating (highest in NFL history, min. 1,000 att.)
"Let's leak out DeAndre Hopkins' contract demands, it'll make him look bad and justify our trade!"
Every reasonable person seeing the numbers: "Those contract demands are very reasonable, why didn't the Texans just pay him?"
My goodness the Texans are bad at everything now.
Bob Uecker today talking about how he started with the Brewers scouting the Northern League. He didn't know to have a stopwatch. "I'd cup my hands like I had a stopwatch, then ask the guy next to me, 'What did you have him at?' They'd say '3.4 seconds.' I'd say 'Yeah, me too.'"
Alvin Kamara, have a day. And just think, if not for Sean Payton's infatuation with Taysom Hill, Kamara could have been the first ever with 7 TDs. Alas. Still fun to watch NFL history.
The Broncos are checking every single box you can for a horribly coached team. I don't want to just pile on Hackett but this has been such an ugly start for him.
@davidhelman_
One of the fun parts of watching old broadcasts is the rare occasion when some team goes for it on fourth and 1 deep in opponents territory and announcers flip the eff out. "Oh! Oh! I don't know about this! BIG GAMBLE HERE!"
Reaction to PED suspensions is endlessly fascinating.
MLB: Essays and think pieces on Cano, how this ruins his legacy, how sad the game is that one of its greats tested positive.
NFL: "Ingram suspended ... so does this mean I should draft Kamara higher in fantasy or what?"
Gronk saying he never watches any film, but asks Brady who'll be guarding him because he know Tom watches film, is time capsule Gronk. That is so damn perfect.
With Robby Anderson balling again, it might be to the point where any player that doesn't do well under Adam Gase is worth a spec pickup when he's let go. This isn't just an odd coincidence.
If you go into a draft and say "We don't need to take a shot on Trey Lance or Justin Fields, we have Drew Lock and Teddy Bridgewater," well, I will just say I don't think that's a path to success.
I, for one, am entirely shocked that commenters are taking Mike Brown's side in him telling Eric Reid he couldn't protest. Punching a female student? Come aboard. Tell a cop you hope he/she dies? Cool. Peaceful protest? THAT'S A LINE WE DON'T CROSS. The NFL is funny.
Some of worst people are those who turned anthem protests into a military issue in a transparent attempt to turn public opinion against a legitimate peaceful protest. The military shouldn't be your shield. The anthem is not a military song. Players were never anti-military. Gross
And it's such a bummer that there was no chance for them to pursue a 26-year-old former MVP that is playing at an MVP level again, with so much cap space that they could have made it incredibly hard for the original team to match. If only!
My guess is Breece Hall is coming out two hours after he was drafted bc he was on a heater at the craps table. And you never, ever walk away from the table when you're on a heater.
I remember when Josh McDaniels cut Brett Kern for absolutely no good reason in the middle of the 2009 season, all to sign old Mitch Berger. Kern is still kicking well and is an All-Pro now.
Minor in the moment but a reminder: Do not let that man anywhere near your GM job.
With one changed draft pick, the Broncos ...
- would have an exciting young QB
- maybe avoid hiring Hackett
- don't have Russell Wilson
- have all the picks from the Wilson trade
- don't spend $242 million on Wilson
The butterfly effect is real.
I get "Everyone is passing now, Brees' record will be broken for sure." But let's think about it. Brees plays 2 more seasons (he's nowhere near being done) he has 80,000 yards. You'd need 16 5,000-yard seasons to get to 80k. There have been 4 non-Brees 5,000-yard seasons ever.
The Arizona Cardinals are in last place, rebuilding and aren't going to the playoffs. Their top two RBs (who are good) are dealing with what appear to be short-term injuries. So they traded a draft pick for Kenyan Drake in the final year of his deal? I dunno, failing to see why.
To sum up: If your Kaepernick argument is "He was asking for a chance, someone offered a chance, that proves he's a fraud!" ... you need to do a lot of work in logic, nuance, common sense, etc.
The NFL allowing Burfict to keep playing is pretty ridiculous. We've seen enough. He needs to be banned. He's the dirtiest player in 99-year history of the NFL.
Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict was fined $112,000 following their game against Pittsburgh for plays involving hits to Antonio Brown (11:19 remaining in the 3rd quarter) and James Conner (5:17 remaining in the 3rd quarter), per source.
We sit here and excuse Aaron Rodgers every week bc he doesn't have help, and here's Lamar saying "Oh, DeSean Jackson off his couch? Here's a catch. James Proche? Yeah, here's a first down for you. And now who am I handing off to this week?"
I don't mind saying it again: Vontaze Burfict is the dirtiest player in NFL history. Firmly believe that. And he should really be booted from the league.
When it comes to Marvin Lewis, Willie Anderson explained how Lewis was instrumental in turning the Bengals into what they are today. He also said Lewis would be too humble to take credit.
I talked to Lewis and
@BigWillie7179
was right. On both counts.
Bill O'Brien needed to waste a timeout to figure out to go for it on fourth and 4 trailing by 17 points? LOL, cmon Houston, do better by Deshaun Watson than this guy.

Somewhere on this app, after the Patriots lose in OT with a third-string rookie QB forced into duty against a 4-time MVP, someone will say "Belichick is 1-3? Told you, he's exposed without Brady!"
Yep, this is where I point out again that the NFL is stealing money from its players in broad daylight. Five figures for pointing and counting. Cool ten grand for that. Totally reasonable in a functional workplace.
Per source, Packers WR Allen Lazard was fined $10,609 for taunting, based on pointing at and counting the trio of Miami defenders he took out on Sunday with one block.
A reminder too that when a player does something that's not even that bad - like pointing at a defender he just juked on a TD run - the punishment is typically to the absolute max allowed in the CBA. And not delayed.
Before last season, through 101 seasons of NFL football, QBs who were 44 or older had 1,815 yards and 14 touchdowns. Combined. Brady tripled what everyone else had ever done over a full century before him.
Mike Vick is the most exciting running QB I've ever seen. But Lamar Jackson is the best running QB I've ever seen. Jump on board if you haven't already: We're seeing something really special with No. 8. NFL Winners and Losers here.
I realize the NFL doesn't care. It's just winning and losing, there are no morals involved most times. But man, the Seahawks signing Mychal Kendricks to get 3 months out of him before he's sentenced ... that's messed up.
I think the dumbest thing on the NFL calendar is the overreaction to draft grades, and the pomposity that goes with it. Everyone with a brain understands them for what they are: A snapshot of right now. They will change. A lot. We all know. If you don't like them, don't read.
To think the NFL - which basically ignored lack of evidence and went on a long PR campaign to smear Tom Brady before suspending him 4 games for a misdemeanor even if he was guilty - is fixing games for the Patriots ... okie dokie.
Russell Wilson might be the most creative QB I've seen. He's like a point guard who sees potential plays nobody else could see. Jason Kidd, basically. Don't know another QB who could do it so consistently.
I just hope the legacy of this game is that coaches finally understand kicking 19 yard field goals and punting on fourth and 1 at midfield is not smart.
@AnwarRichardson
Truth is, the Texas staff should be saying "Young man, you are not allowed back, you go to the NFL and make that money, don't waste another down in college."
James is a great reporter so I trust this is true, then you also have to assume that all three teams offered the Falcons a pretty good amount to move to No. 8, right? Which makes the Falcons' choice to take Penix ... whew this one better work out fellas.
I've never blamed Dak for this season. He's been dealt a terrible hand by this front office. I see a guy battling like crazy to do what he can with a horrendous supporting cast of WRs and TEs.
Forget about defensive rookie of the year, because that should be unanimous - if it weren't for Aaron Donald then ML might be your defensive player of the year. What a season for him.
He's in full "This game means nothing, I'm just telling stories for three hours" mode. And he can carry a broadcast doing it, which is why he's the best.
Uecker says he has the tape of his first solo play-by-play broadcast.
@lanegrindle
"We need to find that tape, listen to it."
Uecker: "We'd be better off listening to adhesive tape."
McDonald's All American. Second team A-A on a Kentucky team that went 38-1. First pick of the NBA draft. Rookie of the year. 25 ppg second season.
Really a sleeper pick, this Karl-Anthony Towns.
"So long everybody, you've been listening to the Brewers Radio Network."
Same sign-off, same inflection, as when I was 10 years old listening with my grandpa.
It's hard to take the L sometimes, but it's time to admit it: Josh Allen is pretty darn good. And if he's anywhere near this good all season, the Bills might be a lot better than we thought.
NFL Power Rankings after a great Week 2 around the league.
I can't figure out why some people are so adamant in athletes doing exactly what they want. Kaepernick clearly doesn't want to play in the AAF, unless it's for a small fortune (that he was never going to get). What's wrong with that?
