Building onchain games is riddled with challenges and current solutions face various limitations, hindering game dev's creativity.
Existing layer 2/3s solution, while having significantly reduced gas cost, struggles as complexity grows and fragments composability.
To address these challenges, the Argus Labs R&D team devised a novel shared rollup construction, inspired by the architecture of MMO games.
First revealed at DBA Research Day on May 2023, the architecture quickly gained attention from various audiences.
Fortunate to be able to share a sneak peek at what we have been very secretively working on at

Introducing World Engine -- a sharded rollup SDK built to horizontally scale onchain games and blur the line between onchain games vs. traditional game server
1/4
The World Engine comes equipped with an EVM-compatible base shard built on top of
@berachain
's Polaris.
Providing compatibility with existing EVM toolings and onchain game frameworks such as MUD.
The sharded rollup architecture allows a gamechain to horizontally scale to thousands of TPS without state fragmentation.
Additionally, it allows rollups to run Cardinal, a concurrent high-performance game runtime, that expands the variety of games one can build onchain.
@CelestiaOrg
In the fellowship, builders will have access to private builders-only talks covering topics such as fundraising for onchain games, utilizing ZK for hidden states, etc.
Additionally, builders can work closely with mentors through office hours and check-ins.
Equipped with robust dev tooling ecosystem such as:
- World CLI
- Cardinal Editor (0-code game state inspector)
- Game engine integration SDK
Game devs can increase development speed by more than 2x...
More time to build cool games, and less time wrangling the blockchain.
If you are interested in building your onchain game on World Engine or integrating your infrastructure with World Engine, you can reach out to the World Engine core devs through this form
@CelestiaOrg
The World Builders Fellowship will run for two months. Each participant will receive engineering support, mentorship, and a monthly stipend of $3,000 to build an onchain game of their choice.
