A pleasure to be part of it and huge thanks to the team! Hearing us singing de Breadfruit Song in

and a few weeks ago walking in to hear steel pans in

On Saturday, we marked the end of my

exhibit, ‘Mischief in the Archives’. A big thank you to everyone who came out to share their stories, connections and even sing a song about breadfruit! Truly grateful to the Bodleian for opening their doors to mischief 🙏🏾.
Absolutely thrilled and humbled to be taking up this exciting leadership role
@BlackEquityOrg
. I'm looking forward to being at BEO, listening to, supporting and working with individuals, communities, business and allies.
Sometimes people forget that kids internalise poverty. You learn not to ask for things and to police your needs and dreams, because you just don’t want to add to the burden. It never leaves you.

Honoured, privileged and excited to start this role. We are here to listen and to learn, to campaign and to support, and to work together to dismantle structural racism. Let's do this together.
Today we're delighted to welcome our new CEO
@WandaWyporska
into post. We're incredibly excited to have Wanda's expertise, passion and dedication on board. She brings a wealth of experience leading charitable and social justice organisations. Join us in welcoming her to BEO!
Any Black journalists there? Racism isn’t just a story for your journalism. It’s our daily emotional labour. And while I’m at it, constant repetition of what Hester said, in an almost casual way by journalists makes Black women feel it acutely. EVERY TIME.
❤️🩹🇧🇷 Vinicius got emotional during the Brazil's press conference after three questions about racism.
“I’m sorry. I just want to play football, do everything for my club and my family, never see black people suffering.
So the news is out! I’m incredibly honoured & thrilled to be joining the wonderful Society of Genealogists as CEO on 1st October - fittingly at the start of
#BlackHistoryMonth
. The last 5 years
@equalitytrust
were phenomenal with great teams. But it’s good to know when to leave.
As a public service, here's a comment to those writing about golliwogs, who may not have Black friends to ask. I was racially abused regularly at primary school, and called golliwog and wog. My hair was mocked. I and the African boy were called Sambo. We were children. It hurt.
The kindness of strangers has been brought home to me truly over the past 24 hours. Thank you to everyone, together you all made a difference to an awful trauma. We are humbled. Please continue to care about

As one of a small number of Black Historians, I am appalled at this. We need investment in this area of study and in Black historians. I urge

to rethink this.

Thank you -It is jsut the worst, but trying every avenue we can. Flying out there tomorrow. Her friends have just been amazing, young women forcing the Police to take this seriously. We cannot wait for 24 hours.
Very interesting that those who earn less than 50k are regarded as ‘low-skilled’. Let’s not confuse remuneration with skills. A system that values nurses, teachers and carers at less than 1 per cent of CEOs is a broken system

Delighted to share that I’ve started as Interim CEO at the amazing
@safepassageuk
- a charity reuniting families, challenging the immigration system and fighting for safe routes for refugees. Please do DM me if you can offer support, as a volunteer, financially or in kind.
Delighted that after an exciting few weeks as Interim Chief Executive at the amazing
@safepassageuk
, I’ve been appointed as Chief Executive. Please get in touch if you can support us with any pro bono work, funding or partnerships to reunite refugee children with their families.
To hear Sunday Times celebrate the Rich List, is downright scandalous in a society where foodbank use, child poverty & inequality damage lives daily. Fawning over obscene wealth should shame a nation where most people's wages have decreased in real terms over the past 10 years

I’ve read a lot about enslavement and know it’s a part of my family history. But it is something different to see the records, the slave registers, with each name a life, a horrific experience and something only to be imagined. Hundreds of pages of names. Let the work begin.
As many will know, I have stepped down from leading Black Equity Organisation. It was an immense privilege to work with so many amazing people in our communities. I wish the new CEO, formerly Director of Partnerships, Timi Okuwa, all the best in the battle to dismantle racism.
The beauty of family history is that everyone can enjoy it. We need to bust the myths that it’s just posh people tracing their royal connections, we have to open up our collections and resources and we need to meet people where they are. Family history is about who we are.
Family historians are proud to be inclusive and community-minded, what can we do to make sure genealogy is always for all? Do offer Daniel an answer if you can.

Can't help but think that if even a fraction of the effort / resource that went on telling kids and others to be resilient was channelled into improving society, so that they didn't have to be, then surely that would be better?
Dear young carers, Today and everyday you are valued, you are doing a fantastic job, often without support. Please dare to dream big dreams and know how we really support you and we understand. You will do great things! From an ex-young carer

@chantellelunt
Chantelle, I read this and just wanted to give baby Chantelle and 16 year old you a huge hug. It takes courage to share your story and to do all you've done in life and continue to do. I thought I couldn't admire you more. I was wrong.
A huge thanks to everyone who has been so supportive on here. I appreciate it massively and will do my best this evening. However, I know that the trolls will out as well, so worth mentioning the great work of

I could not be happier, in a role that makes a huge difference to refugee families and campaigns for safe routes. Huge thanks to the Board, staff and chair

So of course it’s great to see all this enthusiasm for Black people and our achievements today...but I’d really like it to carry on after October 31st please. Black people, not just for Black History Month.

Starting 2022 by thanking wonderful communities of family historians, genealogists, local and social historians, who care about all our histories. We cannot know who we are, unless we know where we came from. Many of us have been told we have no history. Let's find it together!

But child poverty, poverty and hunger are systemic issues arising largely from poverty pay, an inadequate social security system, huge inequality and structural inequalities. We should need neither government nor charities nor the generosity of the public to feed children.
Another proud step in my journey in genealogy and family history. My uncle asked me to try to find his grandfather and so Friday evening was a bit of a distraction of whatsapp and parish registers...this is the rest of my life isn't it?!!!
When I was a kid I couldn’t believe that you could go to a palace of books and choose some to take home. Then I spent years of my life in libraries as a reader and they nourished me as a writer. Libraries let all of us dream and poor kids grow.

The racist murder of Stephen Lawrence was a pivotal point in my life growing up. The disgrace is that 30 years later justice has not been served and the Met can’t admit to institutional racism. Privileged but sad to have met and worked with Doreen and Neville.

Let’s not forget that this election victory owes a lot to good old fashioned organising. People rolling up their sleeves, going out door to door, posting leaflets, getting on the phones and having millions of conversations. Here’s to the unsung heroes of this victory. Thank you.
