I may sound hypocritical but you have to agree that we are one of the most entitled people in the world. We want subsidized everything, fuel, tertiary education, FX, electricity, housing. We can as well lie down and wait for govt to wipe our bums after toilet.
@Wahaby_Agba
Let's agree to disagree Boss . Abi ni tio the Government has played the socialist game ,fair point on it being subsidised but in my opinion 25k to 200k is totally ridiculous and her question in my opinion is valid.. take away the floor gradually
@CaxtonJP
Boss, but you know school fees will easily run into millions once we start paying tuition? It’s a steep increase no doubt but if we tell her that FGN is still spending more than N5m per annum on each student, maybe she will understand that N200k is a fair price.
@Wahaby_Agba
🇳🇬 has ~20 million out of school children; our Tertiary Institutions has capacity to accommodate only ~40% of UTME students. Our education budget in 2023 was ~9% of budget (UNESCO:15-20%).
We need accessible, subsidized education for devt (Endogenous factor of devt )
@konibajeooo
In Lagos, it is illegal not to put your child in school. Primary and secondary education is free. Tertiary really shouldn’t be if we’re serious about building world class centre of learnings. Govt should focus on funding R&D in universities not tertiary education for all.
@Wahaby_Agba
I think your assessment is a bit unfair, if people could actually afford these things, they wouldn't need subsidies.
Even the "Middle-class" can't afford most of these as their earning power is very low, and systems to support i.e affordable consumer loans just don't exist.
@Wahaby_Agba
People are always angry whenever I tell them that our federal universities school fees are actually really cheap.. I guess no one likes to hear the truth
Can the quality of education be better? YES
Is the fees cheap? YES.
Two truths
@Wahaby_Agba
Minimum wage is 30,000 for crying out loud. Don't you people get it?
How is one supposed to pay for all these necessities you just mentioned if they're not subsidized. Please answer me? How do you pay for electricity, food, hospital bills, rent, school fees with 30?
