Sad to inform you that PD Max has gone to sleep for the final time after a short illness. Max was a fantastic specialist search dog who had been with WYP for the last 8 years taking scores of firearms and drugs off the streets. A true character who will be greatly missed by all.
Unfortunately TPD Luther this morning decided to chase a rabbit & met with a barbed wire fence. After being stitched up he’s back home & recovering well. Thanks to all at
@YorkshireVets
for their help & looking after him. I understand he worked his charms nicely with the nurses!
TPD Zero visited the vets today with a poorly eye. Part of the diagnosis involved putting green dye in the eyes... which duly made its way down the Nasolacrimal ducts and now we have a green nose 😄
One hapless offender went into Leeds last night looking to steal from cars on a residential street. Unfortunately for him it was near PD Diesels house, and he was off duty at home. When Diesel found him the offender decided to run... and the rest, as they say, is history.
It's with immense sadness that we have to tell you of the passing on of RPD Ary who died in his kennel at home overnight. Ary was a loyal and ruthless police dog, but was also a loved family member and has left a large hole in many hearts. We hope you enjoy reflecting with us...
A rather snowy night didn’t deter the thieves …however .. the cold 🥶 must have numbed their brains!..tonight’s dumbest criminal award goes to 2 of Leeds finest who abandon a stolen car and run off .. only for officers to follow their footsteps in the snow to their house 🤣🤣👌
Absolutely gutted to have to tell you about the loss of PD Troy. He passed away this morning, aged just 7, after a very sudden illness and will be massively missed by his family and colleagues alike. His handlers daughter made this short video to celebrate his life. RIP Troy ❤️
PD Max deployed to assist officers searching an address in Leeds. Max located drugs hidden within a bedroom. Unfortunately Max now has a heap of paperwork to do while his handler puts the kettle on...
A drug driver dumped his van and ran from
@WYP_RPU
last night... he then tried to outrun PD Resi and her 42 pearly whites.. he lost that short and painful race!
It’s with a heavy heart we tell you of a tragic loss. Yesterday PD Bruce passed away very suddenly aged 5. Bruce had only been with PC Moore for a short time after his previous handler had retired but he was a cracking dog & great team & family member. He will be missed by all.
Today marks the end of an era as 13 yr old PD Bella, WYP's oldest working dog, hangs up her lead and retires from duty for the final time tonight. PD Bella has worked as a pro-active search dog since 2007 in a successful partnership with her handler PC Ian Moore. We wish her well
It’s with a heavy heart we have to tell you that PD Suko fell asleep one last time on Saturday after a short illness. He was a 7 year old operational dog due to retire in March. Our thoughts with his handler, family & colleagues at this sad time. Code 11 one last time
#RIPSuko
TPD Mali visited the people at operations control yesterday and had fantastic time meeting new people and generally causing chaos. So much so that it all became too much for her and she decided to have a siesta on her handler.
Courage and bravery shown by PD Resi + handler this evening who were attacked with a bat while arresting male in Leeds. Luckily only the handler was struck and Resi did what she does best and brought a speedy resolution to the affair resulting in an arrest for various offences.
Bad news this morning we're afraid. Yesterday the section said goodbye to RPD Fudge (cadáver/CSI blood dog) & RPD Toby (drugs/cash/firearms) after a long & happy retirement with their handler Pc Hibbert who has provided the eulogy. Big thanks to
@FiresideK9
for their contribution
Vehicle FTS in Leeds. Unfortunately for the driver, PD Rex was 2nd car in pursuit. Driver ran and made off past the dog vehicle with a smile on his face!!? Rex deployed in hot pursuit of the suspect who ran down a snicket closely followed by Rex. Needless to say, the smile's gone
Thank you for all your kind messages for TPD Luther. Glad to say he’s back to his ‘normal’ self and has spent the morning terrorising PD Tia and rearranging the garden. Joy!
#OpPIMA
and sadly we’re fighting a losing battle in the parks today. Literally hundreds of people sitting having pizza, beers, wines. As always a big thank you to those that are observing the guidelines
#StayHomeSaveLives
#ProtectOurNHS
#lockdownuk
Vehicle fails to stop in Leeds, drives into a field and gets stuck so driver runs off. PD Sox arrives & does what he does best. Nose down, searching & tracking & finds driver curled up in a hedge nearby. 1 in the cells for drink driving, no licence, no insurance

Due to the presence of this fearless police dog a human officer did not have to be the first to try to tackle this armed criminal, this could have had a very different outcome with even more tragic consequences.
Everybody say hello to TPD Roo who has recently joined our force and just taken and passed his medical assessment. Roo will team up with PC Allen and be joining a basic course shortly to hopefully become one of our GPDs. We all wish him the best of luck.
Yesterday a miracle was performed at dog HQ as three T4 handlers all got their spaniels to sit still simultaneously for 0.25 of a second so that this photo could be taken. PD Molly (L), PD Roost (C) and PD Buster.
Unluckiest criminals of the week go to a couple of car thieves in Bradford the other night who were pursued and stung by
@WYP_RPU
. They abandoned the car and made off into the vicinity of 3 attending police dogs. Needless to say PD Roo (L) caught the first and PD Rex the second.
Overnight PD Resi was deployed to search a large garden centre after a suspect had broken in by smashing a window. After a lengthy search, and a slight “misunderstanding” with a 6 foot tall cardboard giraffe, the burglar was located by PD Resi and arrested
PD Rex had a nice result last night following a burglary in Scarcroft. Rex spent 30mins tracking/searching with 1 suspect surrendering to officers on containment. The 2nd took his chances hiding and was duly located and detained by Rex. Poor Rex cut his nose whilst searching 🙄
When your colleague says “I’ll drive onto the field,it’ll be fine ..”.. but he was wrong .. he was very wrong ..
thankfully
@WYPHorses
came riding to the rescue ..in a tractor .. 👌
Im sure it wouldn’t have happened if the driver was an ex-traffic officer ...oh wait a minute ..🤣
A heartfelt well done to PD OLLIE and PD DIESEL who worked as a team together with their handlers for over two hours searching woodland for an elderly woman who had been missing since yesterday evening. Their efforts paid off and the woman has been located .
We wish her well!
Good luck to our newest recruit to qualify from dog training school, PD Kaiser. At only 15 months old he has a lot of learning to do but hits the streets for the first time today with his experienced handler Pc Hibbert who will guide him in the right direction.
PD Luther caught his first prisoners today! Two suspects from a burglary who were hiding in a garage. He had a chat and they decided to give up! He then located property nearby linking them to the offence. Assisted by
@NPASNorthEast
First prisoner of many to come!
#Teamwork
Today we remember a fallen colleague who was murdered whilst doing his job and keeping the public safe 15 years ago. Rest in peace
#IanBroadhurst
Thank you for your service, an honour to have worked alongside you.
#PoliceFamily
TPD Zero spent her first ever day on shift with team 4 today. She wasn't particularly helpful but did meet a handsome new friend in the mirror in the locker room.
A very happy 10th birthday to PD Tia! She was bred as part of the West Yorkshire Police breeding scheme and is still working operationally as a specialist firearms support dog. She still still continues to help keep the officers and public of West Yorkshire safe today 🐾
PD Astra attends report of suspect breaking in to a house via the conservatory. Arrives within minutes + locates suspect still at scene in the rear garden. Despite the suspect threatening violence to both dog + handler, he's now tucked up for the night in one of WYP finest suites
Our most senior GSD, PD Nero sent in pursuit of a suspected burglar fleeing a stolen vehicle this morning but had to be recalled due to approaching a busy carriageway. Track of suspect then resumed from other side and he was swiftly located and detained Nero style, one in custody
Officers attended an address last night to arrest a male for burglary + recall to prison. Apparently he wasn't keen and ran out the back and down the street. Luckily PD Rex had planned for such an eventually and promptly gave chase... the male is going back to prison this morning
From the time that TPD Luther snuck through the door to the time he fell asleep on the rug was about 30 secs! That’s impressive! Haven’t got the heart to move him yet.
Don’t normally put Blades jobs on but first day back and first job after annual leave. Male located hiding with a knife after threatening shop staff
#thenoseknows
. Compliant when confronted with a big 42 teeth 🐕 PD Blade . Knife 🔪 recovered.
Blade 1 x Nasty man 0
PD Marley is just so happy tonight!! He assisted our Violent crime team in Leeds, sniff out a large amount of 💰💷💷. A good attempt to hide it but a bank would have been better🐾🐾
PD Tia and PD Luther have been supporting the firearms teams tonight in specialist searches. A long shift but the most important thing is everyone is going home safely for some well earned sleep now. Stay safe.
Santa has been and has given us 4 new 9wk old pups this week who have been allocated to handlers to begin training (many updates will follow) A huge Merry Christmas to all our followers and hopefully a prosperous new year, from us all at the dog section.
PD Blade has helped search for a handlers van keys which he’d lost in the field this afternoon . We found them. Under the sun visor. He’s a good boy 🤣🐕👍🚓
Update from
@PolkCoSheriff
on PD Vise who was stabbed 9 times whilst detaining an armed offender. He's on the mend and back home with his handler, seen here enjoying his birthday. The perpetrator died in hospital following his arrest from cocaine intoxication.
Vise = recovering from getting stabbed while taking a violent felon into custody but also celebrating his 6th bday with
@Publix
vanilla cake.....He is having a heck of a week! And he’s ready to get back to work as soon as the vet clears him. Happy Bday to our very good boy!!!
TPD Zero paid a visit to Leeds train station for a bit of environmental training. Luckily she didn't go off the rails and was giving off all the right signals.
After a male had crashed and then run from a stolen car PD Resi and handler located him hiding in some bushes. Male made the mistake of challenging Resi to a cross country race... he’s now realised coming 2nd in a race with a PD is a very painful experience 🐶🏆
#stillthechampion
Another family reunion last night as TPD Mali (left) went nose to nose with her brother TPD Leo whilst TPD Zero watched on. All pups are doing well and the abundance of energy is clear.
T4 are on nights today and tomorrow. Our dogs are proven burglar catchers, they hate burglars, they especially hate burglars who ruin a familys Christmas. If you go burgling on our nights, WHEN we catch you, don't expect any sympathy. Merry Christmas, love, The Dog Section.
You know you’re getting old when you end up working with your son! PC Moore and PC Moore keeping the streets safe tonight (with a little help from PD Sox of course)
Car used in a burglary seen and pursued in Bradford but was lost and found abandoned. Officers on scene locate the occupants who make off and a foot chase ensues. PD Astra arrives at the scene in the nick of time, intercepts the fleeing suspects resulting in detention and arrest.
Get dressed up, nice night out for a meal and drinks with family. Get back home, wellies on, big coat on and walk the dogs in the dark and cold. Dog handling isn’t just a job, it’s a way of life and a dedication that has to be experienced to be understood
A bit late in the day but couldn't let it pass without remembering PD Max who sadly passed away 10 years ago today. He was a strong, uncompromising and imposing PD who accompanied his handler former Pc Muscarella in the year they won (dog and) handler of the year. RIP Max.
Day 19 on advent calendar is RPD Chance. Chance was taken in by us in 2013 after the RSPCA found him without food or water in a cramped, dark kennel outside a house in Bradford. He went on to serve his communities with honor. He retired as a general purpose dog earlier this year
Burglar tracked and detained last night by PD Resi in a field after running from a burglary. He learned the painful way he should have followed
#stayathome
In between the festivities and working shifts we always take a moment to remember a good colleague, PC Ian Broadhurst. Taken from us 17 years ago today. Rest easy Ian.
Small family reunion this afternoon for TPD's Bruce, Mali (red collar) and Zero (black collar) who have not seen each other since the 22nd. Safe to say chaos erupted.
The new recruits have had a wonderful Christmas with their handlers and families and are settling in nicely. We now have names so let us first introduce TPD Leo.
All the best to Buster who officially became PD Buster last week by qualifying as a police specialist search dog. He joins PD Riley and handler on team 4 and the duo will be taking on the night shift later today and looking for a good result.
PD Resi assisted officers in Leeds on nights, locating and detaining a male who had ran off. Regrettably the male sustained an injury to an organ most men would describe as vital, he received immediate medical care and was arrested for burglary and going equipped to steal.
