It's official! I'm now morning meteorologist
@WHAS11
full time. It still feels pretty weird, and I certainly didn't think I'd have this opportunity when I moved here, much less so early in my career. Apparently this means I have to keep an 0130 alarm...oh no...what have I done?
The first "
#supermoon
" of 2021 is tonight. Known as the Pink Moon, peak illumination will occur at 11:32 PM EDT, so that will be the best time to see it. Despite the name, the moon will not have a pink coloring to it.

Remember those storms from the other night? They started in the Rockies and held themselves together until they reached the Atlantic Ocean! Another example of the amazing power of the atmosphere.
I chuckle when people complain about wearing a mask because it's "too hot outside." Try wearing a WOOL marching band uniform in the middle of summer while performing a 20-minute pre-game and halftime show and stand tunes basking in 100% sunlight.
Today is my one year anniversary at
@WHAS11
! Hard to believe it's already been one year and I certainly didn't expect to spend half of it working from home because of a pandemic. All things considered it's been a good year with good people. Here's to the next.
I have some personal news to share with you. After two eventful years in Lincoln, I'll be leaving KLKN-TV at the end of September. I will be joining the weather team at
@WHAS11
in Louisville, KY and will start in early October. Until then, I'll be forecasting Nebraska weather!
That's a wrap for me in 2021! I'm off the rest of the year, and will come back in 2022 to a new schedule. I've said goodbye to those 1:20 and 1:30 AM alarms as I move to the "dream shift" of M-F 12pm and 4pm shows. Looking forward to a normal sleep schedule, but not rush hour.
Significant flooding on Nebraska 15 just north of Schuyler. Extremely strong winds blowing sand, dirt, and spray into my face. There is a posted notice of water over the road. Fields look like laked with white caps.

BREAKING NEWS: I have a new foster!
Name: Heathcliff
Age: 10 years
Size: medium?
Personality: scared, defensive, loud, hissy
Bio: recently had teeth removed, was very scared and not eating in shelter. Took refuge in my tub immediately. Poor boy.
Clear skies are giving us a treat! This is current snow on the ground across the entire state. You can very clearly make out rivers and other bodies of water. A neat picture indeed.

After a little over two years, hundreds of broadcasts and stories, it's time for me to move on to my next adventure. As a reminder, I'm headed down to Louisville, KY to join legacy station WHAS. I've made some great friends in Lincoln and will miss them dearly.
@Channel8ABC
Today marks 6 months at WHAS and a little over 6 months in Louisville. It's flown by, but I've had fun. I'm exploring more, getting out more, and socializing more. There have been good challenges career wise, and I've already met some fantastic people. Here's to the future..
Several viewers sent us awesome photos of a shelf cloud as it rolled through Kentucky early this Father's Day afternoon!

Check out this AWESOME photo of the

The First Alert Storm Team has been nominated for an Emmy for our winter weather special. Neat. We're super stoked! Congrats to all the other WHAS nominees, too!

Grace Fry is 10 years old and survived a rare and very aggressive form of Leukemia a year and a half ago. She and her family will soon be traveling to Washington D.C. to meet with Nebraska's congressional delegation to advocate for children's health.
1/2 Commentary: I haven't seen anyone discuss what it's like to be biracial in America. Growing up I was always told "you're not really black" or "you're the whitest black person I know," among other things. I was neither this nor that, here nor there.
It’s
#NoShaveNovember
. It’s not just an excuse to boast some facial hair, but an opportunity to bring awareness to men’s health issues that often aren’t talked about as much. Throughout the month I’ll talk about men’s health (as I try to grow more than a goatee).
For those who have to spend
#Thanksgiving
in the hospital, it may seem difficult to have something to be thankful for. However, patients were all smiles as members of the
#Huskers
football team paid them a visit and shared what they're thankful for.
If you had told me 7 years ago that I would one day sit live in my living room and give the forecast because of a pandemic I'd have stared at you. Honestly, it's like pretending I was on TV when I was a kid in my bedroom. Except now it's real life.

Another photogenic shelf cloud and sky this evening as thunderstorms brought heavy rain, a ton of lightning, and high winds to Indiana and Kentucky.

2/2 Some insisted they knew what I "really" was. What? It was not fun growing up trying to find an "identity" and have people try to "correct" me on what I am. This has been something biracial people in America have dealt with for a very long time.
Just wanted that off my chest.

Here is the latest snowfall forecast. Things have shifted south a bit and models are now pointing to 3-4" for the Lincoln area. It's VERY important to note how tight the gradient is between these snow bands.
This forecast is still evolving. Stay tuned.

Civics needs to be more than one semester in high school. It should be every semester every year. Too many people quoting First Amendment without really understanding it. Freedom of speech ≠ freedom of consequence. Nor is it unlimited. There are textbooks exclusively about 1A.
The transition to snow has begun in metro
#Louisville
. Temperatures are beginning to drop quickly. Initial snowflakes may be wet and heavy, but as we get colder it'll get fluffier. Higher wind gusts will create blowing snow and poor visibility.

Road conditions getting worse around
#Louisville
. Roads becoming snow covered as crews work to try and keep them clear. Try to avoid travel if possible. Temperatures now very quickly falling.
