Argos, a public school with an enrollment of just over 200, just won a state championship in boys soccer by beating four private school teams in a row (Andrean, Bethany Christian, Lakewood Park, Indianapolis Lutheran). It CAN be done.

BREAKING: Pioneer grad Ezra Lewellen has signed a national letter of intent to continue his track and academic careers at Purdue. He was the IHSAA state champ in the 100 meters last month.

Wrestling: Rochester's Marshall Fishback (HWT) defeats Platonov (Westfield) 3-2 in double OT to win the IHSAA state title.

Wesley Meyer finished in second place in the Men's Mile in a personal best 3:59.69 at the Music City Track Carnival in Nashville, TN.

Pioneer wins their second state title in school history.
Pioneer becomes the first school in IHSAA history to win state titles in volleyball, girls basketball and softball in the same school year.

Girls cross-country: Maconaquah scores 172 points and finishes 4th out of 20 teams at the New Prairie semistate and qualifies for the IHSAA state finals.
This is a historic accomplishment for the TRC and a school with enrollment under 700.
Softball: Caston's Kinzie Mollenkopf wins the mental attitude award for Class 1A softball.
She is the first Caston athlete to ever win a state mental attitude award.
Rochester's Abbie McCarter signs with Ball State for swimming. She was the sectional champion in the 200 individual medley this year and the 100 breaststroke sectional champ for 3 consecutive years (2016-18).
Cool thing about my new job: When you write for a website, there are few restrictions when it comes to space. If I want to write a really long story about one of the best high school football games I have ever seen, I can. And being able to add embedded video is also great.
IHSAA passes a rule regarding fan behavior: A fan ejected from a contest is also suspended for the next contest. Same standard for players and coaches.

Boys basketball: Winamac's Calvin Larkin makes the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Small School All-State list. He's one of only 15 players statewide to receive the honor.
BREAKING: The Rochester-Lewis Cass boys basketball game scheduled for Dec. 28 will be played at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Game time is 3:40 p.m., varsity only.

Caston wins their first regional title in school history. The only other Caston team to win a regional in a team sport was the 2023 softball team.
Girls basketball: Pioneer's Ashlynn Brooke and Hailey Cripe are both selected to the Underclass Small School All-State team. They are two of only 15 players in the state to receive this honor.
Argos' Caleb Ellis wins the mental attitude award for Class 1A boys soccer. He's the first Argos athlete to win the mental attitude award in any sport.
Tanner Andrews got his first professional win Friday for the Batavia Muckdogs in an 8-2 win over the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. He pitched two scoreless innings of relief. Ex-Purdue ace is a 2014 Tippecanoe Valley grad.

Girls swimming: Rochester's Abbie McCarter wins the Warsaw sectional title in the 200 individual medley in 2:11.60 and advances to state. She breaks her own school record by 4.76 seconds.
BREAKING: Ryan Johnson will be named the new athletic director at Rochester, pending approval at the Aug. 12 school board meeting. Greg Martz will stay on in a budgeting and scheduling role. Johnson is a 2005 Rochester grad. He had been the AD at Taylor HS.
BREAKING: Winamac native Justin Haley, 20, wins the rain-shortened Cup series race at Daytona. Took the lead under caution and was declared the winner after two lightning delays. Was racing in a Cup race for the third time in his career.

Condolences go out to the family and friends of the late Joy Jennings, who died Sunday.
She was the matriarch of the family that is synonymous with Argos basketball and high school basketball in Marshall County.
She and her husband John were married 71 years.
