Over the last 03 years, @GovUganda has constructed 03 new Bridges across River Nile, i.e, —Source of the Nile Bridge —Paraa Bridge —Isimba Public Bridge. More Bridges on R. Nile are under Design at Laropi, Masindi Port & Pakwach which should be constructed in the next 05 years.

There is no standoff. Contractor should have had a better traffic management plan at peak. The traffic jam was not acceptable. Director Nuwabiine took control of the situation. We are working well with traffic police and doing all we can to reduce inconvenience to the motorists

Just in: Traffic Police Ag.Director Lawrence Nuwabiine has ordered for the arrest of a UNRA contractor and also halted the ongoing rehabilitation works at the Northern Bypass, UNRA trucks have also been confiscated. There’s currently a standoff between Traffic Police and UNRA.

The funds from Toll revenues on the Kampala—Entebbe Expressway will be exclusively used to finance the operation & maintenance of the expressway. This will enable high class standard maintenance unlike for the other non-tolled roads that compete for inadequate funding resources.

Busega—Mpigi Expressway project is expected to ease traffic flow on the Northern Corridor linking Mombasa Port to DRC, Rwanda & Burundi through Uganda. A recent feasibility report puts the Expressway's Net Present Value at US$251m & an Econ. Internal Rate of Return of 20.3%.

. @GovUganda has already planned to construct a bridge between Nakiwogo & Buwaya. With this new facility, travellers from Kampala/Entebbe will easily connect to Mpigi or Masaka without first going through Kampala, taking only 30 minutes to Masaka. #ConnectUg

New Isimba Bridge is able to accommodate all nature of traffic including double-container trailers which the Mbulamuti ferry couldn't accommodate. This is going to ease transportation means for construction & manufacturing firms moving goods from K'la—Kayunga to the far East.

Between 1962 & 1986, 1,175km of new roads were paved averaging 49km of roads constructed annually. Since 1986, however, a total of 4,793km of new paved roads have been done & 1,924km of existing dilapidated paved roads reconstructed (...because paved roads last on av. for 15yrs)

In July 2019, @UNRA_UG signed an MOU with the Energy Ministry & @UegclOfficial to supervise construction works of Isimba Public Bridge. The Bridge is part of 183MW Isimba Hydro Power Plant & Isimba—Bujagali Interconnection Project located 500m downstream of Isimba Power Dam.

The previous challenges encountered using a ferry between Kayunga and Kamuli are now solved by the new Isimba Public Bridge and access road. Ferry services at this crossing have been affected by the increasing water levels of the Nile.

The new Isimba Public Bridge is comprised of 2 bridges connected by Koova Island located on Victoria Nile. Bridge 1 traversing from the left bank on Kayunga side to Koova Island is 433m long. Bridge 2 traversing from Koova Island to the right bank on Kamuli side is 457.25m long.

Looking at recent trend of increase in stock of new paved national roads, the average increase over last 5yrs has been approx 300km annually. In particular, last 02 F/Ys have seen an average of over 400km annually of new paved roads—all in line with NDP & Vision 2040 targets.
