MAST is the Mega-Amp Spherical Tokamak & had undergone major engineering developments to become MAST Upgrade. The end of 2018 saw the completion of the device and was marked by a visit from The Duke of Cambridge. The first experiments will start later this year. #fusionenergy

MAST Upgrade will be UKAEA’s newest fusion device. A major part of the MAST-U design will test cutting edge exhaust systems, including the first to be fitted with a Super-X Divertor. Exhaust systems are key to sustaining fusion reactions and maintaining efficiency. #fusionenergy

Throwback to 1983 when our flywheel generators, weighing 775 tonnes, were first constructed. As JET requires 700-800 MW to operate, and the national grid allows a maximum of 575, our flywheels make up for a shortfall of 400 MW. #ThrowbackThursday #fusionenergy @FusionInCloseUp
