We are shocked and saddened to report some of our volunteer crew were verbally assaulted due to their role when reporting for duty tonight. This behaviour will not be tolerated. Thank you
@metpoliceuk
for your support.

Whilst having breakfast today, one of the crew noticed a bird drowning by the station. We launched and rescued this little dude. After some local rehabilitation, it dried off and flu away back to its family.
Called 05:57 to a man in the river at
#Woolwich
.
@MPSonthewater
&
@LondonPortAuth
arrived on scene first but couldn't rescue the casualty due to them being under a pier
On our arrival the person went under the surface & we commited a crew member to swim & rescue them.

We’ve got two boats on the river for tonight’s New Year’s celebrations. They’ll be crewed by Thames Commanders Stan and Steve, and volunteers Nick, Paul, Storm and Suzanne.

It’s a mixed emotions day today for us all here
@TowerRNLI
. Our long serving station pier has finally left her mooring where she has been since the opening of Victoria embankment in 1870. The superstructure has changed a few times but now it’s all change and upgrades

We have just completed the 9000th call since we started back in Jan 2002. Despite the global events and restricted travelling for a lot of the year we have still had a busy year. None of this would be possible without all the supports of
@RNLI
and our amazing Volunteer Crew
This evening we saved someone who was drowning. Without judgment our staff and volunteers raced to bring someone back alive, because we are here to save every one. 🧡
Our charity exists to save lives at sea. Our mission is to save every one. Our lifesavers are compelled to help those in need without judgement of how they came to be in the water. They have done so since the RNLI was founded in 1824 and this will always be our ethos.
This time yesterday we launched on a service call and saved the life of a person who was seconds away from drowning. This was the first life saved of the year.
Thanks to the member of the public who called 999 to alert the coastguard who tasked us.
So
#onthisday
in 2002 we launched our lifesaving service on the Thames.
Since that day we have launched to 8,048 incidents.
We have saved the lives of 320 people.
We have assisted thousands of people.
We would like to thank everyone for their support over the past 18 years.
Last night
@TheLondonEye
was lit up yellow to celebrate the RNLI’s 200th anniversary. And of course we were on hand to capture the moment with the night’s duty crew - Steve King, Craig Burn, Paul Tattam and Conor Hudson - on lifeboat E-07 Hurly Burly.
A huge thank you to our fantastic crew tonight. 3x calls from the start of shift including a person in the water and a medical emergency. Now back to normal operations with one lifeboat and a few less crew for the rest of the shift.
