Two years ago today, I got a call from an Arkansas area code. I didn’t answer it. I thought it was a robocall or something.
It was Walmart.
They called to tell me they were going to stop locking up multicultural hair products following my reporting.
Kobe has literally been apart of all of our lives. Lakers fan or not, if you’ve ever stepped on a basketball court, or balled up some paper to throw in the trash, you’ve said “KOBE!”
LEGEND!
Pizzability is a restaurant that hires workers with special needs. The owner tells me people stand outside and say they’re afraid to come in. People walk past and say “that’s where the retards work.” The employees can hear them.
Please give them your business and your tolerance
Loving v. Virginia
June 12, 1967: A Supreme Court decision struck down 16 state bans on interracial marriage as unconstitutional.
6 years after my parents were born.

Wanna know a secret? (Not-so-secret) The A-bridge checkpoint not only lets you walk from the terminal to the A Concourse, it may be quicker than the other checkpoints. Not flying out of an A gate? You can still walk the bridge and take the train to B & C.

@Romi_Bean
is CBS4’s new main sports anchor.
She is the first WOMAN to be named main sports anchor in the Denver market.
Romi… you are a legend my girl ♥️
This is my hobby. I’m not great at skiing or fishing or hiking or the typical “Colorado” things. But I don’t have to be. For the first time it’s ok to finally be me.
Honored to announce I’ve been selected to join the
@DenverPressClub
Board of Directors.
One of the first things I said in the meeting was “This is the whitest board I’ve ever seen.”🥴😂
It sparked a conversation.
Ready to spark many more & be a voice for Denver journalists
“This Walmart is in the heart of Montbello. There are black and brown people all over the place. The message is clear: We don’t trust you.”
A customer says the retailer is discriminating against people of color, locking only multicultural products behind glass.

During my job interview at
@CBSDenver
last July, I was looking at the statuettes behind
@CBS4Tim
’s desk. I told him I wanted to help bring home another one.
A year later....I did.
I want to give a s/o to
@mitchellbyars
for his reporting this year. Some of the biggest stories have come out of the Boulder area. If something is happening up there, I go to his feed. I know many others do too.
He does capital J Journalism.
And some of it even makes you laugh
Nancy Parker was shooting a story in a stunt plane when she was killed.
Nancy won five Emmy Awards and four Edward R. Murrow awards.
Nancy was a wife, a mother of 3 and a trusted voice in NOLA for 25 years.
Her station said Nancy died “doing what she loved: Telling a story.”
As children we’re taught to judge others not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. I knew before I was born.
Thank you for persevering through hate, so that I could know love.

I spoke to a Rabbi for a story about anti-Semitic flyers around Denver.
He said: “When we light up a room, we don’t have to turn off the darkness. We merely have to flip on the light. So to me, this just means we need to add more light.”
I’ll think about that forever
@MakeupForWOC
After years of watching

I FINALLY tried translucent under my foundation. I’m not oily and I live in Denver, so I thought it would be so drying.
After 6 hours of wearing that face, I regretted all the faces I’ve ever put on in my face wearing life.
Hard to believe I’m hearing fireworks tonight. I say hearing because I can barely see them.
We’re finally getting some snow to help fire crews. I believe in celebrating, but I also believe in empathy.
I think fireworks tonight lack both
I’ve been pretty exhausted lately. Mentally, physically, etc.
I got in my car and just started driving. I wasn’t sure where I was going.
I ended up on a mountain, alone, and snowboarded in Colorado for the first time. My body hurts, but I’ve never felt better.
A Denver Police officer just came up to me after my live shot to tell me he loves my reportering.
In my whole career, I’ve never been complimented by a police officer on my work.
I thought he was coming to tell us we were parked illegally😂 We might have been...
My Grandma Ann passed away tonight.
Normally people post a picture, but I’d rather share her words. She always wrote me letters.
When she did call, I tried not to miss it. But I’m thankful I missed a couple.
I’ll always have her voice when words aren’t enough.
I was reelected VP of the
@DenverPressClub
and was surprised with a framed copy of my B&C magazine cover.
A Black female TV journalist on the DPC wall?

I’ve been laughing at
@kenanthompson
since the 90s! Today I’m especially thankful that I will continue to be entertained by him: Chadwick’s passing is a reminder to cherish Kenan’s performances even more. You never know when it’ll be his last, or my last chance to watch.
I’ve been covering youth violence in Aurora every couple of days for the last 2+ weeks. It’s draining and frustrating, but we stay out there.
Kids getting shot shouldn’t become typical or get lost in the news cycle.
KIDS getting SHOT is a big deal.
Don’t let it get normalized
This is coming from an LSU alum, but hear me out…
If I were a Bama grad, I’d brag about going to the same school as
@kaitlancollins
before I started talking about football. Her achievements at her age are unreal.
Every Halloween, my dad takes a picture with his jack o lantern and sends it to me.
I remember when I got “too old” to think carving pumpkins with dad was cool. Now that I’m actually old, I realize how lame I was.
I posted up at the light rail along Broadway and I-25 Friday. I was getting MOS interviews and I went up to two Black women. I didn’t have to introduce myself. They recognized me.
They told me it’s been great to see a Black woman on the news.
Every day we come to work matters
When I got to CBS4, I was 23 years old. I started my work day at 2am. Now I start at 2pm.
I’m almost 28 now. I’ve grown so much in Denver - personally and professionally.
I’ll never have the “native” bumper sticker, but Denver is home to me.
Thrilled to share that

joins our team on CBS4 News at 10pm! A tremendously talented reporter whose work has changed policy and changed lives since she arrived in Colorado four years ago.
The history of soul food.

I can’t begin to explain what this story means to me. It’s a piece of who I am.
Thank you
@soulfoodscholar
for your time, passion and expertise.
Thank you
@CBS4Mark
for putting care and literal sweat into helping me tell this story
I spoke to a nurse shopping at Safeway who always goes to King Soopers.
She recalls a time early in the pandemic when KS employees would be the only ones working when she got off work.
No one was howling for them.
Our newsrooms - on air and behind the scenes - must reflect the diversity of the community we serve. This lovely viewer email sent to
@ToriMasonTV
and I is just one example why this is so important.
I walked over the broken glass from business windows shattered last night to get my coffee shop. The barista asked if I saw who did it. She just assumed I was at the protest.
I love being black, but to live in this skin is exhausting.
It’s OK to want to be by yourself in large groups. You’re not being rude, or standoffish, or whatever people think.
I have debilitating social anxiety. I get numb. I can’t breathe. If you need to step away and be alone just do it. So many people are alone with you.
“If they were along the highway, writing a ticket, they wouldn't stand for somebody passing that close.”
Jim Pelkie says a group of Denver Police officers on motorcycles got dangerously close during his bike ride on Lookout Mountain.
Story at 10
@CBSDenver
She homeschooled me.
She womanned the fort while dad was in Afghanistan.
She was in the passenger seat when I drove from FL to Louisiana, KS & CO.
She managed to get two degrees, all while answering my frantic 2am calls.
Happy Mother’s Day, Mom.
& she turns 60 this week!
