Time for a bit of change. Beginning of a 12-month secondment as a Practice Development Lead, supporting the development of urgent care, specialist and advanced practice, through leadership and supervision of our
@SECAmb_PP
teams. Looking forward to new and exciting challenges 🙂
Whilst in town grabbing food, my phone sounds with a
#GoodSam
alert.... Me: “that’s mapping outside the restaurant” 🤔 I look out the window to see members of the public doing chest compressions in the street! On scene time 30-seconds 🏃🏻♂️💨

As
#teamSECAmb
continue to work hard through an ongoing Business Continuity Incident, I’m proud to have been today’s on-duty Tactical Commander for our amazing
#EmergencyOperationsCentre
(999) clinicians &
#NHS111
service. All safely handed over to our fantastic night-shift teams
On-call over NYE and NYD. Currently off to our Emergency Operations Centre where I’ll be seeing 2020 in with my green family. Whatever you’re up to tonight play safe, look after friends and most importantly, HAVE FUN! 🥳
Duty tactical commander for
@SECAmbulance
999 emergency operations centre tonight. It’s going to be a busy one, so please be patient and bear with us if you need to call. Our teams are working hard to get patients the most appropriate and timely help 🚑 ☎️

Great day spent in A&E supporting the Admission Prevention Team. A joint venture between
@nhs_scft
,
@BrightonHoveCC
&
@UHSussex
. Based within front door ambulance triage, supporting same-day signposting of patients back into the community for assessment, care & treatment 🏥➡️🏠
Manager... Leader... but foremost... a clinician. I don’t think I’ll ever stop feeling proud to put this jacket on. Even if it’s one of those unexpected off duty “Oh 😯 there’s a car on its roof” moments
#aJobLikeNoOther
Enjoying time on secondment with the Virtual Ward programme, but felt great to pop back and spend a clinical shift with my Urgent Treatment Centre team. Working as streaming clinician… triaging patients to ensure they get timely care, by the right person, to meet their needs 🏥
Having spent 15 years working for 🚑 service, I’m partially hanging up greens to work for
@nhs_scft
as trainee ACP in an Urgent Treatment Centre. Continuing part time w/
@SECAmbulance
(111 & 999) clinical team, just right time to focus on next stage of professional development 😊
What... a... week! So amazingly proud of
#teamSECAmb
and our green family. Finally home time and off to prepare for a weekend of on-call. Stay safe everyone and look after each other 😊
It doesn’t take a major incident to remind me how impressed and proud I am of our emergency services, but you’ve got to love when a plan comes together 👌🏻 It’s a team effort, that includes a LOT more people than just police, fire & ambulance. Too many to thank for tonight, but 👏🏻
Dear A&E colleague,
I am very open to having my practice questioned & will always warmly welcome a professional peer-to-peer discussion
However please do not attempt to belittle my clinical decision making in the middle of the department
Kind Regards
Tom, Specialist Paramedic
Thank you
@NestleUKI
for your kind gift of Easter Eggs for each of our ambulance staff working in the 999 Emergency Operations Centre today 🐣 The sight of so much chocolate has created a lot of happy faces in the control room 😃🍫
Warm welcome (literally 🥵) to our dear friends
@NWAmbulance
who came to visit our
@SECAmbulance
integrated urgent & emergency care team. Great continued collaboration to share learning and support each other’s developments across 111 & 999. Thanks

Working with my mate Danny who I’ve known for over 15-years and went to school with. Danny’s just transferred to SECAmb this week after training as a paramedic with East of England. Showing the new kid how we do standby on the sunshine coast 🚑 ☀️
Spot of Sunday overtime in our NHS 111 Clinical Assessment Service. The CAS is made up of a multidisciplinary team of nurses, paramedics, mental health clinicians, dental nurses, pharmacists, midwives and urgent care practitioners 📞
#IntegratedUrgentCare
With so much public media constantly pushing “don’t call 999” and “ambulance services are busy” … I think it’s important to promote that the emergency services ARE there for you and when you SHOULD call for help 👍🏻

Very busy shift in Urgent Community Response, with FOUR referrals from

Proud to be joining our

team of COVID-19 vaccinators, as we start to vaccinate our staff from our mobile (HQ car park) centre TOMORROW! 😀 We’ve already provided over 1,700 of our team with the Pfizer vaccine. Bring on AstraZeneca! 💉💪🏻

Whilst travelling around the region with work last week, at two separate GP surgeries I saw examples of Paramedics being used as valued and integral members of the Primary Care clinical team 😁

Humbled by the opportunity to work with an incredible medical team at

this weekend. Great collaborative efforts, including the use of cold water immersion therapy for exersional heatstroke cases. Grateful to be part of such impactful work

Duty Tactical Commander for SECAmb Emergency Operations Centres, on-call until 8am tomorrow 📟 Particularly looking forward to 00:01 tonight 😬 Please think sensibly, be responsible and look out for others (Tom would like to have a nice night sleep)
Working in Urgent Treatment Centre alongside:
☑️ GPs
☑️ Nurse & Paramedic Practitioners
☑️ Advanced Clinical Practitioners
☑️ Healthcare Assistants
Ready to see illnesses & injuries that don’t immediately require A&E. Go to for an initial assessment 🏥
Absolutely loved this when I logged in at work this morning 🤩 Well done

Well bank holiday Monday, you didn’t disappoint! A whirlwind 12-hours of lumps, bumps, broken bones, head injuries, bites, burns, chest pains, earaches, rashes, foreign bodies, wounds and infections. Two words... Great team! ☺️

#EmergencyCarePractitioner
12 years ago I started my journey with the ambulance service. 8 years ago today I became proud to call myself a Paramedic. I have loved every minute in green 😊
A surprise gift delivered to our Emergency Operations Centre which is likely to keep our control room staff awake through this entire pandemic!!! 🤩 (this is around one third of the stash)
What a day! I’m extremely proud of all my SECAmb colleagues who have worked their socks off today to provide the best patient care possible during a time of extreme demand. From call handlers, resource dispatchers, frontline clinicians, team leaders and managers... true teamwork
This is why I love my job. Call to 999 for elderly fall. Daily touchpoint call between
@SECAmbulance
and UCR teams across
@NHS_Sussex
. Case signposted to

for ACP + HCA attendance within 40 mins. Checked for injuries, assisted off floor (1/2) cont.
And just like that, my time on secondment to the
#VirtualWard
programme has come to an end. I’ve learnt a LOT and worked with an AMAZING bunch of people. Off I head back to urgent community services, taking with me great experiences to drive further

😊
Interested to hear (open and non-judgemental) thoughts from ambulance colleagues. How would you feel about attending a patient who was “too unwell” or “not safe” to stay at home. How would you feel about admitting them to a

for ‘hospital’ care at home? 🤔 🚑 🤷🏻♂️
Nice little APP referral from an attending ambulance crew, where I was able to supply the patient with a course of medication (using PGD) and send a clinical summary their GP using
@SECAmb_IBIS
to inform of follow-up arrangements 👌🏻

As an NHS clinician I get amazing privalidges, such as being able to hold a gentleman’s hand and talk to him whilst he takes his final breaths. It’s days like today that remind me how proud I am to wear this blue badge on my chest 😊

Yes!!! We’re recruiting Mental Health clinicians into our East (Maidstone) and West (Crawley) Emergency Operations Centres. A huge step towards our vision of Integrated Urgent Care and a multi-professional Clinical Assessment Service 😃

A mixture of emotions and feelings from spending the last three evenings in our new NHS 111 Clinical Assessment Service. Most of all... overwhelming PRIDE!

Massive thank you to our friends at North East Ambulance Service for sharing your amazing experience of Integrated Urgent & Emergency Care. It’s fair to say you have blown our minds! 🤩 Learnt a LOT to take back to South East Coast. Really excited about the future 😃
Still a huge assumption that an older person who has fallen will automatically need a face-to-face ‘response’ (e.g. ambulance or community service) to get them off the floor. Very appropriate to consider suitability for coaching over the phone 📞💬

Allow Paramedics to prescribe controlled drugs alongside fellow Nurse, Midwife & Pharmacist non-medical prescribers. At 10,000 signatures, government will respond to the petition. At 100,000 signatures, it will be considered for debate in Parliament ✍🏻
Demand in urgent care is definitely on the rise, with over 100 patient contacts either booked by NHS 111 or self-presenting walk-in… But it doesn’t feel busy when you’re working with such an awesome team to smoothly sail through the shift 👌🏻

Hive of activity today in SECAmb control room as the first three of our Rotational Paramedic Practitioners start their EOC mentoring. Emily, Ellie & Malcolm learning the ropes on the Incident Command Hub, providing clinical crew support 👋🏻

An interesting and important discussion, which can be difficult to articulate…
What (non-clinical) skills do paramedics have that differentiate them from nurses and other allied health professionals?
#ParamedicLeadership
Busy day with lots of walk-in patients 🏥 Did you know… If you think you have an injury or illness that requires urgent care, call NHS 111 who will assess your problem and may be able to book you into an A&E or treatment centre to reduce waiting times
#HelpUsToHelpYou
Ok the cat’s out the bag. On 1st August I’m excited to start a new job as a Clinical Operations Manager for EOC 999 and 111. Extremely proud of my little team and all they’ve achieved with IBIS. Looking forward to the next chapter in our integrated urgent care journey 😁
Huge thanks to

for a GRUELLINGLY ENJOYABLE couple of days! My brain literally feels like it’s about to explode 🤯 I’ve learned soooooo much and massively developed as an ALS leader 👌🏻
