Hong Kong opposition activist Agnes Chow living in Canada, no plans to return despite needing to report to police over national security law case
So, Canada accepts convicted felons now?

The one weakness in the MRT system is the lack of a dedicated airport train line, like HK, Taipei, Seoul, etc... I use the MRT a lot, except for the airport. Too much hassle.
HK guy tried to insert himself in the Foreigners line. Officer yelled at him 中国人在那里排队!
香港,he answered, and started to walk again towards the Foreigners line.
中国人!!!! The officer yelled.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge has carried 10 million vehicles since opening, Xinhua says after US outlet’s ‘ghost bridge’ report
Heh, ghost bridge indeed. And considering a large part of the traffic is buses, that's a LOT of people...
This morning in Huanggang, the guy in line ahead of me was holding a Republic of China passport and a 台湾同胞 card. He also looked quite anxious. Probably a newbie.
The staff at Huanggang are adamant about the queues. Foreigner on the left, Chinese nationals on the right.
"I even bought a French hat...:
"I feel stupid"
Yeah these two sentences correlate quite well, emo GenZ. The half-million people in Lyon live their life, and don't really care about an Asian-American chickie...
That young woman has completely switched off. Deep, slow (and fortunately quiet) breaths. Her phone on the table, her purse and bag across the table on the bench.
When she wakes up, her stuff will be there.
In what other country can this happen, 100%?
"70% of residents plan to leave Hong Kong within two years as immigration fair attendance soars"
Bahahaha. 70%?!? That's north of 5 million. We could only be so lucky...
Do they even proof-read what they write...
"‘It’s very quiet’: Hong Kong restaurants dealt double blow by New Year’s Eve weak tourist influx, trend of residents spending across border"
None of this should be even remotely a surprise by now...
The winning team is back. Yummy.
At another table a guy in his 30s decided to smoke a cigarette. Yup, inside the shopping mall. No 2 fucks given. I put a stop to that, but he really couldn't understand why. Fortunately his wife was with him, and she told him to behave.
Well of course... The two governments dont recognize each other's passport. So RoC residents enter China as PRC citizens. The dude kept looking at his passport, looking lost.
Quick scan of the card, photo, and he was let in. He did look like he enjoyed that part though... 😁
What I see here - and I know exactly where it is - is badly maintained buildings by landlords who don't give af about their property, as long as they can charge insane rent.
What I don't see here, contrary to pre Covid, is a bunch of entitled, obnoxious expats making a mess,../..
In HK one doesn't need a calendar to know when Chinese New Year is. It's exactly one week after you start seeing employees in your residence you never see the rest of the year, people who suddenly start opening the door for you with big shit-eating grins.
@thumbelulu
👉🤡
Cantonese is not dying. It's still spoken by a majority of people in HK, and by 10+ times more people in the Mainland than in HK.
但係咧,八婆於我想問,妳識唔識講白話啊?

"American in England advocating for freedom in Hong Kong"
The Yank should go to to the US and mind her own bidniss...
"Hong Kong LegCo swiftly reviews"
Swifly, heh, 27 years too late. Some swiftness...
@tongbingxue
This is 沙頭角, a village in the northeast corner of HK. It was split in two when the UK annexed the New Territories. It used to be a trading area, where people in Shenzhen could come to the HK side and buy TVs, clothes, etc.
While exiting SZ, I was queuing up at the x-ray station. Hongkie about my age arrives, jumps the queue right ahead of me, drops his bag on the conveyor, and runs.
I grabbed his bag, dropped it on the floor. He's probably still waiting for his bag.
Minister for Indo-Pacific to meet authorities during stops in Hong Kong and Beijing, marking first visit by UK official since new law passed
You come to *Asia* carrying that "Indo-crap" title, to lecture another country about internal affairs? Sure. 🤡
"30% of Hong Kong international schools expect expat applications to fall"
Again, tempest in a small tea cup, not even pot: we're talking about 25,000 kids, vs over one million school kids total in HK. let's focus on what's important here...
Hong Kong Court finds actor Joseph Ng and 7 others guilty of rioting during “Lunch with You” protest in Central
And until sentencing they will lunch with prison guards.
"Wilson noted that while his pistol was not registered in Hong Kong, it is properly registered in Washington state, and that he holds a concealed pistol license."
Yeah bud, but you're not in WA. That license doesn't mean shit here.
"Beijing should allow mainland Chinese to visit Hong Kong more easily, increase duty-free goods quota, Starry Lee says"
Funny how seemingly reasonably intelligent people can suddenly become dumb-dumb when it comes to cross-border relations...
And they keep enforcing it. So very quickly the 湾同胞 was pulled from my line and sent to the faster 国民 line. His eyes said "Why me?" But he obeyed quietly.
When his turn came, he pushed passport and card eagerly towards the Immigration officer, who threw back the passport.
Spent ½ hour in Elements, one of the nicer shopping malls in HK. Been to 3 shops / counters. Haven't spoken a word of English - staff doesn't seem to speak a word of it. That Cantonese genocide isn't going too well so far...
Probably the shittiest part of entering Shenzhen Bay is having to queue up for luggage x-ray and hongkies jumping the queue and shoving people out of the way so they can go first. EVERY SINGLE TIME. I had to block the same guy twice. 你唔識排隊啊?幾多歲啊?
Hong Kong sees rise in returning emigrants seeking medical care
"it is estimated that millions of Hong Kong residents have chosen to settle abroad"
Millions... 🤡🤡🤡
"23rd March sees record 400,000 Hongkongers cross border, 313,000 head north, as airport departures soar by 55%"
HK restaurant owners gonna whine some more I suppose...
Hong Kong gearing up for 800,000 mainland visitors over ‘golden week’ holiday
"while prices in HK were not as low as in SZ, local businesses should be working on providing better services and products."
YOU THINK?
@thisischaniece
This is kind of an extreme case. The latge majority of flats in HK, in KLN and the NT, are 500 to 700 sq ft.
This young woman probably wanted to live absolutely on the island, and paid the price.
People who get off the escalator and freeze right there on the landing, while there'sa dozen people coming behind you, with nowhere to go... What ails you? And how can we fix you without violence?
Obviously
@Nrg8000
has not spent much time in China, otherwise he would know the QR code he is talking about is simply a wechat pay code, nothing at all do do with tracking people, so funny....
CX emailing me that my flight has been rescheduled. Panic ensues.
First, which flight? I'm flying a bit this month. 9h, the quick getaway to Hangzhou end of the month. Okaaaay.
Next, how bad is it..?
I stare at the email. And stare. And stare.
Is this a joke?

1. Avoid winter if you're from warm regions. You'll die.
2. Avoid summer if you're from cold regions. No joke.
3. Autumn is probably the best season, albeit a very short one. The colors are wonderful.
