The left have started to realise that the covid response might actually be unethical. It took 21 months of the most extreme restrictions on freedom imaginable & medical segregation in the country that committed some of the worst atrocities in human history for them to see this.

How is this the story we haven't been told? It's the same thing we've heard time & time again about frontline doctors in distress in March 2020. What about the effects of school closures? The ruined businesses? The undiagnosed cancers? The suicides? When will we hear about that?

What’s most ironic is that the left would be on the side of the pit closures today, and they’d write off the protesting miners as far right for opposing their decarbonisation plans to reach net zero.

Excellent documentary on BBC Two this evening about the miners’ strike. Smashing the mining industry and throwing thousands of men on to the dole was an unforgivable act of social and industrial vandalism from which many pit communities still haven’t recovered.

Most of the people who backed lockdowns did so for the sole purpose that they believed it made them look like good people. But copying a human rights violating policy from a dictatorship that harvests the organs of ethnic minorities is a pretty crap virtue signal if you ask me.

As a rule of thumb, if you find yourself supporting a two year state of emergency, censorship, suspension of the rights of broad swathes of the population, and permanent changes to the way human beings interact, you’re probably on the wrong side of history.

@TheEconomist Who could have guessed that subjecting young people to months of social isolation, disrupting the structure of their lives and creating a state of chronic terror would result in this?

Who gives a toss about the lab leak theory? I don’t care whether it came from a lab, from a man eating bat soup or whether Xi Jinping personally farted it out across all the continents of the world- it was never a virus of much consequence. Lockdowns are the real crime.

@MichaelPSenger I don't think most people truly grasp how truly criminal and evil this has all been. They think it was a bit of a mess & at worst a really bad mistake.

@LucyGoBag It takes anyone with a computer seconds to find this. The media & govt should've known. Nowhere are lockdowns mentioned as a policy. This is what the inquiry should focus on -why we jettisoned these sensible pre-existing preparedness strategies in favour of what China was doing.

I was a long time socialist. The left have permanently lost me & globally screwed themselves for decades. Turns out that turning a formerly free society into a Black Mirror dystopian hellscape modelled on communist China isn’t exactly the virtue signal they thought it was.

@93vintagejones Colour grading films to make them all grey and desaturated is one of my biggest bugbears with modern cinema. Compare this shot from the last Harry Potter movie to this shot of Powell & Pressburger's Black Narcissus.

It's bad enough for the world's intellectual academic class to admit they got everything about the most seismic event of modern history completely wrong- they also have to reckon with the fact that gym bros and glamour models with no qualifications at all managed to get it right.

It’s important not to discount the role of sheer pettiness in the mainstream reluctance to admit the catastrophe of lockdowns and COVID mandates. Even more powerful than the reluctance to admit they were wrong is the absolute horror at admitting THOSE people were right.

I regularly look back at the photos and articles from 2020-22 and still find myself shocked by how extreme and dark they are. It was the most extreme event in our recent history yet outside of a few right leaning publications it is never spoken about in any in depth critical way.

Regardless of one’s view of the effects, the question of why the world followed China into lockdown during COVID is extraordinarily important. How few people in the world are seeking to answer that question may be the eeriest aspect of the strangest three years in modern history.

This is why these people need to be not only removed from positions of power, have their careers ended, their reputations as public health authorities discredited and even to be jailed- because they are completely unrepentant for their crimes & would gladly do it all again.
