Lets be clear about what happened on last night's #rtept . A man with extremist views that all livestock farming must end was invited on. If you're a farmer you heard this view & it confirmed every right wing conspiracy, every fear you've been fed about what 'environmentalists'

(Not so) fun fact, Ben's wealth comes in no small part from his ancestor, the "Marquess" of "londonderry". A man so brutal he refused to lower rents or provide famine aid during An Gorta Mór. We don't need lectures on when to provide aid or colonialism from the likes of him.

So given indicators of agri emissions are all down this year (fertiliser ⬇️, milk intake ⬇️ & stock numbers ⬇️) While SUV sales ⬆️ Diesel ⬆️ Coal/oil for electric ⬆️ Flying (massively) ⬆️ It shows how poorly our sector is managing messaging that we're the focus in media

There's a lad on TikTok live streaming the work he and his team are doing handweeding crops. This is both brilliant in that it shows the hard work involved in growing veg to people who never would see it...but also awful cos it shows how grim & sore that work clearly is

You want to know what real action on water quality looks like? It’s not notions of silly land use changes that can’t be maintained economically. It’s €10k I spent on roadways this year to direct runoff away from any drains/shores. It’s reseeding with multi species & clover to

Phenomenal performance by Macra na Feirme President John Keane. Clear and informed with real facts. He represents the concerns of so many farmers (not just young ones). Proud to be a @MacranaFeirme member

John Keane @MacranaFeirme President will be coming up on @TheHardShoulder on @NewstalkFM . Important young farmer voices are heard in this discussion, we'll be the ones most affected by climate change and emissions targets!

I wonder if that Fertiliser we were advised to put out in February has reached Australia yet...

Fascinating to listen to actual experts in livestock. Maybe not as popular as a book by a certain well known anti-farmer author with zero agricultural scientific qualifications but I'd bet my hat this would actually stand up to scrutiny (as it's based on peer reviewed work!)

20% increase in emissions, 3rd highest rising emissions in the EU A reminder that while we dont know June livestock numbers, total calvings were up only 0.0019%, milk intake down 0.7%, fert purchases down, feed down. But yea we're all in this together...

Can’t get much more #Cavan than eating a native “Cavan sugarcane” apple from your Cavan orchard. Even the sky is celebrating #CavanDay with blue and white

I believe this what the kids call “getting owned” with facts. A real world farmer with real world measurements vs irrelevant world averages using flawed metrologies (without going into the difference between green and blue water)

@PaulGogarty @conormulv @Revolution_IRL @rte 6.5 litres of water to produce a litre of milk in this country. We’ve been measuring it since 2012. 5 meters fitted on the farm from the well, to where each litre hot or cold is used from drinking, washing, cooling, cleaning etc. Every litre is measured and it’s 6.5litres

Overwhelming response from the farming/ag community on here. This is illegal & unacceptable, end of.

A rule I live by: never trust anyone talking about agriculture that doesn't accept there are tradeoffs No fertiliser:lower yields:higher land use Higher yield:higher pollution risks:reduce prices All those have qualifiers but romanticising one over the other isn't useful

Another day of attacks on farmers because we dare to not solely feed Irish people but help bring money into Ireland & especially rural Ireland. Never mind that the farming these people would demand we switch to is losing farmers at an incredible rate because its not profitable

Being shocked there's no bugs on your windscreen while driving down a massive strip of tarmac which ploughed through and filled in wetland is soooooo close to the point it's sad... No doubt it'll still be blamed on farming

You mightn't know it but I do try to stay out of stupid food culture war rubbish... But when you see prominent environmentalists promoting a certain oat drink company prosecuted for green washing & anti small enterprise lawsuits to bait farmers tis hard not to call that hypocrisy

Look here’s a simple thing: if you want to anger farmers just talk about being ‘imaginative’ or ‘diversification’. I’m sorry but at this stage that is a nonsense answer for the very real challenges. Farmers are practical people & non-practical hand wavy solutions doesnt cut it

Very dangerous stuff on going AGAINST the Food Safety Authority advice that children under five should not have these “alternatives”

Ireland AM have a gardener on giving NUTRITIONAL advice. You could not make it up. Recommending introducing alternative milk .. The incorrect nutritional advice in this is staggering 😳

Ok this is pretty cool, the first cow (nee heifer) to have been milked without a human hand doing the work!

Cows extremely content on the multi species. Extremely hard to gauge multi species performance by eye. But this area of this field when in perennial ryegrass at 1500 would have not have kept them as long. Watching for bloat like a hawk though as it was full of clover going in

Incredible hearing on @PatKennyNT show that milk price is dropping because commodity price of wheat, feed & oil is down. Total misunderstanding of farming. Milk produced today is fed with meal purchased at high prices, grass fertilized with expensive fert (high gas price)

Did the...did the official Earth Day Twitter account just use misinformation claiming that 80% of GHGs are associated with livestock. That's too basic a fact to unwittingly make a mistake on. This is why farmers have no faith in so many climate action groups

Some people with no agricultural science knowledge really hate when someone with far greater knowledge like FAO's Chief Scientist says anything that contradicts message of "Irish ag bad" (so much for "respect scientists" or maybe it's only certain scientists that deserve respect)

I would like to salute Ireland for its ambition to develop an “innovative, competitive and resilient agri-food sector” that is driven by science, technology and talent, encapsulated in its 10-year strategy for its #agrifood sector, namely ‘Food Vision 2030'.
