🧵on why this is dumb, and how to make it better. 1️⃣ This is 405. I don’t care what the SS Bar weighs - it’s 45lbs. 2️⃣ This kid is worth millions, and even if he wasn’t.. ❌ The sheer forces on the hip of the back leg and his spine. ❌ If he falls, his leg is in a TRX strap.

3️⃣ He clearly really struggles with even holding this weight. It would be better suited for him as an athlete to drop the weight and do a regular split squat or reverse lunge. Here are some examples of things I would use that would be much safer and more productive:

The same exact exercise without a foot in the TRX and without the back leg elevated at all. Much less stress on the hip. More time to relax without balancing on 1 leg the entire time. You can do this with a split squat or reverse lunge. 405 & 225 done extremely well.

Use the catches! Can do this with a split squat or lunge. Less time with the weight on your back, less range of motion (we can easily find safer ways to hit deeper ranges of motion) No back pain, no hip pain. 275 from a high school sprinter. Well over 2X her BW.

High Step Up. Allows deeper ranges of motion without an absurd amount of stress. Can use this as an accessory exercise. You’d be surprised at how challenging these are.

Skater Squat. Here’s a 6’1” high school freshman bball & vball athlete crushing these. Balance, strength, mobility, SAFETY.

New Years Resolution for 2024 is to provide a ton of accessible value if I’m going to criticize something. Not claiming to know everything.. but I do know putting athletes in positions like this should be child abuse. End thought: kid should find a new performance coach.

@T_Cortazzo I’m sorry to say this Tim that although all your suggestions are valid and really useful they all miss one key element - they don’t make for a cool video 😎 😆

@T_Cortazzo The worst part of this is social media accounts marketing as if it’s a good thing! People think making things difficult for the sake of making them difficult is beneficial when in fact it can be detrimental!

@T_Cortazzo These are some of the fakest weights ever. A girl doing 225 splits, no belts, no sleeves. I’ll bet my house that these are fakes. Just look at the way he walks back, it’s effortless. I’ve seen Olympic power lifter struggling lol. I’ll put money where my mouth is 20k he doesn’t…
