Winning: refuses to share time/space with others in your life, like a jealous lover who demands all of you and gets it. It’s a driving obsession that looks irrational to others, but perfect to you.

Blessed. For Madison College and what it has done for my life. Especially for the players who have had such a strong impact in creating a better version of myself. This award is for all of us. Thank you! 🐺
6 years ago today I was driving shuttle van for a hotel company to make ends meet as 1st time college baseball coach with no money
Find a way..to do what you love. Use those experiences as energy to get you to where you want to be
My story is young, but wouldn’t trade any of it
Our “athletic” move that we have to rely on is how we get into the ground…landing well consistently
Everything after that is an automatic response. The auto response is what needs to be trained really well in the cage. How many “tools” can we put in their toolbox?
If you operate with a front side move at launch…you better always smack the mistake cause you won’t manage your “misses” well
Operate WITHOUT a front side move…your “misses” can become the best results of the night
Direction, direction, direction
The multi-purpose/fun “5 Ball Drill”
Works on:
-Work/think fast/adjust
-Drop steps (these guys=🤙🏻👏🏻👍🏻)
-Take eyes off ball/find it...don’t slow up feet
-Swap head, chin direct to oppo shoulder
-Line drive gap= “Eyes to the ball 1st, then glove can follow”

@BBoeser16
: “He’s not a cocky kid, doesn’t bask in the glow, he just goes about his business....really how you’d want your players to act, where no one player is bigger than the team”
That’s the Brocky Boy I’ve always known! What a player, what a kid!
Trevor Bauer and Mike Clevinger. A great listen.
“Know where you wanna go, develop a plan, trust the plan, and then execute it”
“It’s easy to be good today, but you gotta think about everyone else that’s training, working like you every single day. Broaden your horizons”
There are “swingers” and there are “HITTERS.” Swingers swing and think everything will work out. Hitters make a plan off what they are facing to have best chance. Sometimes even giving the pitcher part of plate daring them to hit it 3 times. Approach is subtle, but damn important
All journeys are different, I’m still on mine. If you a player or coach wondering what the “future” holds, give this a read. It’s my approach throughout my growing story.
If it resonates for you and you’d like to talk, send a DM. Let’s chat.

⚾️ Good OF drill for:
-Body awareness
-Skills needed to take head off the ball to get to spot (important to maintain direction with feet & shoulders when bringing eyes back to the ball after having them off)
Coach Davenport with the blindside sack @ the end 😂

Moments like this! A feeling that can’t be explained.
And knowing how much work/preparation
#22
has put into becoming the guy he is. Special!
What a game, what a win! 🐺
Head/eyes stay still on leg lift (head stays centered in circle as in setup)…he then go’s to “see the ball”=head bottom of the circle at landing, but still in circle
If the head leaves this circle too soon (forward and/or down towards the plate)=poor alignment and compensations
Coaching at a JC challenges you in powerful ways. Why coaching at Madison College was the best decision I ever made? It forced me to become better with my eyes, my craft, my communication, my relationship building. All while coaching players with big dreams and aspirations 🐺
Short THREAD. Lance Berkman talking about the “3 L’s” of hitting from an athletic hitting position
1) Load, 2) Launch, 3) Length
Without a good load, a good launch can’t happen, without a good launch, length can’t happen.
The amount of snaps & insta’s of people out partying in big crowds is very disappointing/frustrating. It’s byproduct of being uninformed, selfish, stupid. We all want life to be normal again...read an educated article, get informed, choose societal decency over selfish desires
THIS is the issue of old school vs. new school
Some NEW don’t care to learn what came before them. Some OLD are stuck in time not caring about the now. It ALL is crucial to understand
“To become great and stay great…we must always be learning”
From the book Ego is the Ememy
Pulling at the front hip with jagger band
Trying to “feed the issue,” They fight it. Creates joint centration of lead leg, pelvis lands neutral, anchored points.
They don’t need to think any of that...just accomplish the task.
Natural “Trout steps” occur when band taken off
Winning is everything, but I’m fine with “getting beat” where we handled our business, but they were just better that day
I’m not good with “kicking our own ass”
Big difference
Being authentic, being honest, being trustworthy, being self-giving not self-centered...not misleading people
Those qualities make people “cool,” and who end up leaving the strongest mark.
I want to continue to coach people with those qualities...I’ll keep finding those ppl
I will also join many in saying that little leaguers tipping their cap or giving their opponent a high five for hitting a home run off them is not what’s great about sports...competition is what’s great about sports. That is not competition. Why is this the new accepted norm?
Reflection is amazing, especially when it’s clear how incredible your journey has been to this point. The people/experiences so powerfully shape who you are. My hope is everybody can find something in their life where they can feel what I do...and I feel so damn fortunate! 🐺
You get to a point in coaching where you finally understand...the less complicated I make it the better the results. The less variables I give players to think about the better they compete/accomplish tasks. Doesn’t mean be lazy, I’m just a better coach when not sounding “smart”
Not perfect yet, but not expected to be 1st intro to fly ball footwork
Drill:
-ball in glove
-deliberate/correct drop steps
-get sideways “behind the ball”
-chest turns, feet organize, glove side foot to the ball, pro style footwork
-game speed transfer with throw to partner 🐺

Convention. A young hungry coach who didn’t know anybody just wanting to learn. Since, the hunger to learn is the same, but the amount of amazing/intelligent people I know in the fraternity has changed dramatically. What a platform. Thankful
What is greatness…it’s consistency of how you show up every day. Coach D is a winner & authentic leader of people. I know all he’s focused on is winning game 2 of the DH
The impact he has had on my career/life far outweighs his 1000 wins, and that’s how every 🐺 feels
#mAdison
Fortunate to work for a phenomenal program under the wing of one of the best in the business, Coach Davenport. Coaching a successful program is all about the players...and man I can’t thank them enough! #🐺
Simple/effective drill for adjustability. Vary height of toss. Lower toss=FB, higher toss=Offspeed. On higher toss hitter will feel their separation hold while lower half on time (delayed shoulder turn/hands back)
Have strong/rhythmic gather for smooth transition into offspeed
My college guys..time to put one foot in front of the other. Climb this steep mountain. It’s only choice. What good can I make of this? Who am I going to be? What am I going to do?
Keep being curious, keep growing, keep the dream real. Separate yourself now! It’s an opportunity
Congratulations to the 2018 NJCAA Region IV champion, Madison College WolfPack Baseball team... last out video courtesy of Mike Van Veghel. Off to Enid, OK...
Hitting Coach, not coordinator…maybe someday!
Appreciate the opportunity to speak at my home state convention! Top notch operation. Thank you all that attended!

MILB Hitting Coordinator, Trevor Burmeister, dropping some serious knowledge on hitting to open up day 2 of the WBCA clinic. One of the best young coaches in the country!
@T_Burm
One of the constants you see in great hitters is the “eyes hold through contact.” A simple thought, but an auto fix to many issues. Loud contact is a byproduct of a barrel having room to run in and through the baseball. Where your eyes hold, your barrel can work
Awesome! Offensively, hitters need court awareness as well. Does the pitcher have confidence in his offspeed/have plus offspeed?? If no, hunt fastballs. If yes, be aggressive on fastballs early, create adjustability with strike on you. Get the answers to the test before at bat

Baseball student-athletes:
Not long ago COVID took what we loved away from us. Don’t forget that feeling. Regardless of your beliefs on virus, its bigger than you! Be vigilant, make good choices. Follow protocol. Hold teammates accountable
We all just want you back on the field
Naw... there are many JUCO programs that don’t let the inmates run the asylum...that have good guys who play hard and just win, who’s “talk” is in their play...feel free to televise our games
#whyABCA
? Because if you love baseball there is no better resource to help grow yourself in this game, hands down! I have no better answer than that!
@CoachSheets3
holding me accountable to get this video out. Happy to do so 👍🏻👊🏻
@ABCA1945
There are “swing drills” and “hitting drills.”
Swing drills to promote feel and efficient movement for each unique mover
Hitting drills for more game like decision making
Important to understand the difference, and incorporate both
🐺 The guys enjoyed this one. Want to be a good base stealer? How good are your first 3 steps? Be direct, and at max speed by 2nd-3rd step.
After talk on how to be more explosive on 1st move, this drill reinforced all essentials. Catch the ball before the 2nd bounce 🐺
A1: I’m not a head coach, but hope to be. My number one goal is to do the best job where I currently am. Keep learning, be loyal, help the student-athletes I get to work with grow/develop. I also want to learn from the best head coaches/programs
#ABCAchat
Got an initiative that I’m going to incorporate for awhile. Other coaches please join me.
Call one former player a day just to check in. To talk. See how they are doing.
Let’s demonstrate selflessness that’s needed today/every day.
Retweet to spread!

Imagine a country where room is made 4 everybody; where we attempt 2 walk in others shoes for a little; where decency is the first instinct..not hate; where we could be on same team, instead of vilifying each other
I just want more decent people, leadership. It’ll take all of us

about finding perspective and opportunity in the unfortunate reality of being taken away from what we, and many others, love.
He said “I think this time away from priorities for everyone is a time to work on ourselves.”
Perfect, and powerful. Had to share.
"[The teams] who focus on the people, pursue perfection, strive for excellence, and emphasize getting the process right seem to win the most over the long haul."
"The problem for some leaders is that they want to avoid confrontation."
-Listen to feel good music/good lyrics
-Eliminate Instagrams grab (it’s your life-doesn’t need comparison)
-Stop bombardment of the news (become educated on issues when it’s needed)
-Make twitter a develop/learning platform
-Keep a small circle
My recipe. Choose what you consume
2017 was phenomenal! I love my “job” and the people I get to work with. I have so much appreciation for the players I get to coach. Lastly, I have incredible family and friends. You all made 2017 something special. Cheers to 2018!
My anxiety level raises when I hear parents interact with their kids in a cage. It’s an epedemic. No surprise on burnout rate, and how much players struggle with failure

“Character matters. Being a good person matters. Telling the truth matters.”
Thinking of a lot of people right now.
For those that “won” and “lost,” let’s work together on creating a better world
There’s no such thing as a perfect swing. What can YOU do with YOUR swing?
Can you land well and hold space and direction on the pitch line? That’s it
Too many hitters/coaches try to create “manufactured moves.” Creates tension (mind/body) with a ball moving at you fast [1/2]
