Villanova’s ability to play off of 2 feet and utilize pivots & shot fakes is among the best each year. It’s easy to see why after watching their practice today. Everything they do is so intentional & under control. Players at all levels could learn from this aspect of their team.

2023 prospects, don’t get discouraged if you are not getting contacted today or the rest of this week. I’ve seen a lot of guys in 2022 who weren’t contacted this time last year but are now more heavily recruited than those who were. Run your own race and continue to improve.

A college coach asked me to send him some names to watch this weekend, I asked if he was looking for anything in particular. His response: “Grit & leadership.” Didn’t say shooting, athleticism, etc., just two intangibles. Don’t think that scoring alone will get you recruited.

Indiana commit Gabe Cupps is one of the toughest, most heady players I’ve watched. Does so many things that don’t show up on the stat sheet, controls the game, and a great leader. 11 points & 7 assists in Midwest’s win at #3SSB Spartanburg today. Took 5 charges by my count too.

Clemson transfer Lynn Kidd has committed to Virginia Tech. Originally a 2021 recruit who reclassed up and joined Clemson last August. I thought he showed some good improvement when I watched him last summer. Should develop well at VT. Gives them size at 6’10” 235. @thekeyplay

If you think you’re “too good” for Division 3 basketball, I’d encourage you to go watch a team like Emory play. Extremely well-coached with shooting everywhere & fundamental, unselfish players. 22 assists & 15 3’s for them today. There’s high-level basketball being played in D3.

Saddiq Bey was the lowest-ranked recruit in Villanova’s 2018 class......yesterday he was named the Best SF in all of college basketball as a sophomore and is projected to be a Top 20 pick in this year’s draft. Stop worrying about rankings, if you’re good enough it will show.

This has come up with almost every college coach that I’ve talked to lately- Whenever we return to the court, it’s going to be clear as day who’s been serious with this free time and who hasn’t. If you haven’t, that’ll be a big red flag and coaches will be turned off. Stay ready.
