The main issue with teaching (why it is such a mentally tough job) is the constant feeling that you are not doing enough and that nothing is quite good enough. That’s a damaging environment to work in. It doesn’t come from pupils or most parents but Ofsted and the league tables.

I have a door jammer in my desk. It’s purpose is to jam my classroom door in case of intruders - as there is no lock. I get it out to practise now and then. When children are in our care we are in loco parentis and we take that idea very seriously. Pay teachers a proper wage.
