Emotional evening after my apartment almost took a direct hit from the strong tornado that struck portions of east Norman tonight. Passed just under a mile to the north. Unfortunately, many were not as lucky; significant damage occurred along the track.

Incredible day. Intercepted a powerful, long-track wedge tornado twice southwest of Des Moines, IA, near the towns of Winterset and Norwalk. Unfortunately, the tornado produced significant damage at these locations.

Intercepted this large, wedge tornado near Morvin, AL, today. Worked really hard for this one after bouncing from storm to storm that just couldn't quite get it done.

Can’t say I’ve had many Southeast chases that have started like this…currently in Ruston, LA awaiting storm intensification w/ almost pure blue skies. Low-level mass response is underway, as southerly winds are increasing & we’ve moistened considerably over the last half hr.
What a day...documented some epic storm structure and at least 5 tornadoes, including this large and long-lived one near Etowah, OK. Much more to come soon.

Almost got sniped by a positive CG lightning bolt while watching the second Little Rock supercell organize yesterday. Couldn't have hit but a few yards across the road from us; note the tree debris raining down after the strike. Volume up!
A juicy ribeye after documenting an incredible tornado near Selden, KS, today. Sadly, the town took a direct hit. Scientifically, however, the footage and RaXPol data we captured will be extremely valuable. Footage will hopefully be up soon.

In-depth discussion of the 5-20-19 OK/TX High Risk. Forecast to be a sig tornado outbreak, but initial storms lined out while warm sector supercells struggled to materialize. I'll dive into factors that inhibited the event from reaching its ceiling
Interesting E NE/IA setup tmrw. Classic cold-core event w/ strong sfc low, cold air aloft. Modest low-level shear, but steep low-level lapse rates/instability will efficiently stretch any low-level spin into vertical. Very reminiscent of 4-22-20 Springer, OK tornado event.

Yesterday's tornado-warned supercell near Commerce, TX, produced some epic lightning; here's a close CG striking right in front of the developing wall cloud.

A year ago today, we documented this beastly EF4 tornado near Winterset, IA. This storm quickly went from an outflow-dominant hailer to a long-track tornado producer extremely quickly.

Some more shots from yesterday's destructive, long-track tornado from Winterset to Norwalk, IA. Saddened to hear about the 7 confirmed fatalities from this tornado and the tornadic storms to the south. Link to the quick edit of my footage:

Footage from yesterday's cyclic supercell near Quanah/Vernon, TX. Documented at least 5 photogenic tornadoes (perhaps more). Now on to processing what should be an excellent RaXPol dataset we collected.

12z Corpus Christi sounding is quite concerning…loaded gun with very deep moist layer, EML, and a fire hose of warm/moist advection ongoing. Wind shear profiles already supportive of supercells.

Full footage from an epic chase on Wed across central Oklahoma. Documented multiple supercells from Blanchard to Etowah, both of which produced insane structure. Also documented several tornadoes, including large, long-lasting ones near Etowah/Pink.

One of my favorite parts of touring the Plains every year is finding small town hidden gems. Smokin Dick's BBQ in Post, TX fits that bill. Super sweet couple making incredible barbecue in the shadow of the Caprock. Perfectly cooked meats and amazing sides. A must stop!
Fun day for our ETT Tour 2 guests today in northwest of Abilene, TX. Nice appetizer for what should be a hyperactive stretch coming up to end the week.

Looked into this in my thesis for the 6-15-19 Putnam, OK, case, which seemed to also undergo a form of non-occluding cyclic mesocyclogenesis.
