Kelvin Sampson on senior point guard Jamal Shead. This almost made me tear up. That’s a coach who loves his player 🥺.
“I wouldn’t trade Jamal Shead for any point guard in America. He is what we stand for. He has a tremendous mother and father. He’s going to graduate with a…
This picture just feels iconic.
Caitlin Clark & Zach Edey pose for a group photo at an awards show.
Both were two time NPOY & set records along the way. Men’s & Women’s College Basketball may not see this kind of dominance again for a long time 👏🏻
Wow. I just saw an episode from The Journey featuring Steven Izzo from Michigan State and it was powerful. He is a 5th year walk on and son of coach Tom Izzo. In this clip, he scored his first official basket of his career.
Tom had this to say:
“He came over and gave me a hug…
I think this might have been one of the best defensive assignments by a big man on Zach Edey all season.
Tennessee big man Tobe Awaka fronts Edey perfectly with arms wide and up for 20 seconds. Well done! 👏🏻
Here’s the thing though. That is TIRING! This is why teams end up…
This Purdue vs Indiana game just reinforced to all college basketball fans that recruiting rankings can only go so far. You need to find the "RIGHT" guys to build your program. This applies to coaching as well.
By now, if you follow me you know I’m a big fan of Iowa State coach TJ Otzelberger. This clip is from his introductory press conference after being hired. He inherited a 2-22 team and had this to say.
“We are going to be relentlessly competitive on the court. We’re going to…
Apparently AJ Storr who’s in the portal asked Kansas for $1M.
Kansas came back with 750k and he said no.
Anyone can have an opinion on something like this but for me, I wouldn’t even consider taking this guy on my team.
It’s about the money, not the team success. No thanks.
Zach Edey and Dalton Knecht were the two best players in the country the entire season.
They put on an absolute show today. On behalf of college basketball fans, thank you both so much 👏🏻
Probably the biggest data points of this Illinois vs Purdue game?
Purdue fouls: 17
Illinois fouls: 15
Purdue FT Attempts: 14
Illinois FT Attempts: 21
Purdue wins 77-71
Zach Edey. I apologize. I didn’t know you had this kind of dog in you.
Guy was silent the whole tournament in postgames and then unleashes.
Draft stock off this alone 📈😂
If there is something people figured about this Purdue team today if you haven’t watched them all season.
Zach Edey is their best player but make no mistake THIS IS Braden Smith’s team.
Purdue’s Zach Edey has had two post game interviews and has maybe said 15 total words.
Just has a look in his eyes like this is a business trip and he won’t be satisfied until the job is finished.
The boilermakers are looking dangerous.
UCONN, Purdue, Iowa State, and Houston ended the regular season as the only Men’s College Basketball teams in Power 5 + Mountain West to be undefeated at home. Well done 👏🏻
Purdue’s Zach Edey continues to show a skill set that you’re just not supposed to have at 7’4 300.
We can talk about his motor/conditioning which is great or his automatic over the shoulder hooks but really watch this CLOSELY.
The ability to feel this out and take one dribble…
I’m not a big fan of lazy reporting. I was listening into the Purdue vs Grambling game and the announcer said.
“Braden Smith is wearing a wrap on his leg because his calf has been bothering him.”
… Braden Smith has worn that every single game this season lol
There are currently only two players in Men's College Basketball who are averaging 12 PPG, 5 RPG, and 5 APG while shooting 40%+ from the field and 35%+ from 3. They are Iowa State's Tamin Lipsey and Purdue's Braden Smith.
Purdue fans. It’s March Madness. You know three things I’ve noticed in this game?
1. Camden Heide flying all over the court (ATHLETE).
2. Myles Colvin has cemented himself in the rotation and is the 8th guy (You’ll need him).
3. Ethan Morton has not seen the court.
I’ve noticed this too. I feel for Purdue fans. I don’t get the hate. A non blue blood, that develops under recruited players, and competes at the top each year. Very odd hate indeed
Purdue is clearly doing something right if the whole country points and laughs at them when they lose… haven’t seen this treatment for any non blue blood besides Gonzaga
In his past two games, Purdue’s Braden Smith has held Terrence Shannon Jr and Tyson Walker to the following:
TSJ: 3-13
Walker: 5-15
A largely unnoticed aspect to his game is how good of a defender he has become.
One of the many reasons I’m a big fan of Iowa State coach TJ Otzelberger.
Questionable call especially with the no call on the other end and the crowd and players are upset. Does he blow up on the refs? No. You can tell he’s focusing on coaching his team in the huddle. Period.
In the first game this year, Samford lost to Purdue by 53. They proceeded to finish 29-5 & win their conference with the 5th best scoring offense in the country.
Bucky McMillan coached high school hoops in 2020. Now he's taking Samford to their 1st NCAA Tourney in 24 yrs. Wow.
The Detroit Pistons are now 3-1 on the season when guard Jaden Ivey attempts 20 or more shots.
Over the past 4 games he is averaging 27/5/4 while shooting 65% from the 3 point line. Rising star.
Purdue is going to make opposing fan bases hate them even more next year when they run out a line up of:
PG: Gicarri Harris - 6'4
SG: Myles Colvin - 6'5
SF: Kanon Catchings - 6'9
PF: TKR - 6'9
C : Daniel Jacobsen - 7'3
There rebound margin might increase next year💀
I've been pretty vocal about Matt Painter not integrating Myles Colvin for months. It now seems Colvin is earning his trust.
If you listened closely in the post game interview, the reporter brought up Myles Colvin & Painter mentioned his defense.
A development for Purdue...
Purdue has given up 50 or less this year twice.
The first game of the season against Samford (45) and today in the Final Four against NC State (50).
Defense wins championships. Well done. Purdue is headed to the National Championship 👏🏻
Purdue is really hiding two game changing players on their bench in Camden Heide and Myles Colvin. I don’t understand it 😂. If they don’t let them loose like Heide tonight, I fear we all know how this can end for them…Athletes & dynamic guards win you games in March.
Reminder to all. I am a Zach Edey fan. I have been for awhile (feel alone at times lol). I think he is skilled and gets fouled a lot. Yet, people will stare at box scores and watch one clip of him fouling and think it is rigged.
Those people do not know basketball. However, if…
2025 five star recruit Jalen Haralson just hinted on his socials that he may commit on 3/22.
The 6’7 PG has interest from several schools including Duke, Auburn, Purdue, and Indiana to name a few.
Something to note. He recently took a visit on 3/10 to Purdue.
Let’s take a closer look at the non conference records of Purdue & UCONN.
Purdue: 11-0
Notables: Samford, Morehead St, Gonzaga, Tennessee, Marquette, Alabama, Arizona.
UCONN: 10-1
Notables: Texas, UNC, Gonzaga.
OMG. If you don’t think Braden Smith is a top 5 point guard in the country then you are blind. The kid is SPECIAL. He may have just made a case for 3rd Team All American. WOW
Seth Davis just hinted at Grambling State being a team Purdue could struggle with based on style of play.
Purdue beat Samford by 53.
The same Samford team many are picking to beat Kansas.
Let’s not get ahead of ourselves based on a game that happen last year 😂
Jamal Shead in his career at Houston:
114-16 (87.7 win percentage) ‼️
He should be the Big 12 POTY and a 1st team all American after leading Houston to the
#1
team in the Country.
Cougars legend 🐐
Someday I do hope college basketball fans realize Purdue doesn’t get called for fouls because they don’t foul/are coached that way.
They are historically near the bottom of the country in steals per game and turnovers forced. Why? They don’t gamble. Straight up and down defense.
A lot of fans don’t understand what Purdue’s Zach Edey does that translates to the NBA. The answer is a lot. But in short, a 7’4 300 lb mountain beating guards down the court and not getting tired playing 35+ MPG is freakish. This and the ability to play above the rim is HUGE.
The improvement Purdue's Zach Edey, a projected lottery pick, has made with his conditioning, mobility, quickness off his feet and defensive versatility stepping outside the paint has forced NBA teams to look at him through a different lens this season.
Purdue's Mason Gillis is now averaging 8.4 PPG & 4 RPG on 53/47/91 shooting splits in conference play for the Boilers. A major development as a key bench piece for an already dangerous Purdue team.
Kansas State an unranked team just beat
#4
Kansas at home and… didn’t court storm. Why? They had people/coaches lined up telling fans not to & also had a crew who roped off the players immediately at the buzzer. They were prepared. This is the blue print. Coach & players went to…
All jokes aside, with Zach Edey it’s not so much that he is “that” much taller. Most Power 5 programs have 7 footers. It’s the fact that we haven’t seen someone that height weighing 300 lbs with minimal body fat that plays 35 MPG and doesn’t get tired. Truly a unicorn.
Anyone on here ever been to Boise, ID? I’m not only impressed with the food, scenery, & overall feel but also with how nice everyone is.
Feels like I’m in a movie. Nice people everywhere. No traffic. Not loud. Just people who look happy & not bothering anyone. It’s refreshing.
What truly makes a player great and dangerous? Efficiency. Purdue's Braden Smith just knows how to impact the game in so many ways. Tonight he had 16-9-8-4 while shooting 5-7 from the floor and 2-2 from three. He is the engine for the Purdue Boilermakers.
#NaiSmithWatch
Purdue fans. Braden Smith is on a historic pace to start his career. He is currently on pace to become not only the Big Ten's career assist leader passing Cassius Winston with 890 but he would be the only player in history to record 1600 points, 700 rebounds, and 800 assists.
You know what's sad people. I post a clip congratulating a player for defending Zach Edey perfectly.
Then it becomes fans complaining about Edey fouls and posting random 1 off clips of him committing fouls.
What are we doing here? Let's maybe appreciate Tobe Awaka... lol
The matchup we all want to see is UCONN vs Purdue. The only way this happens is if they both get to Phoenix on the road to the Final Four! Tristen Newton vs Braden Smith. Zach Edey vs Donovan Clingan. Sign me up 🍿. Make it happen
@BoilerBall
@UConnMBB
Purdue’s Zach Edey officially is named AP Player of the Year in Men’s College Basketball.
The first time someone has won it back to back since Ralph Sampson.
Absolute dominance that we might not see again for quite some time. 🤝🫡
It just occurred to me, anytime I have a post that mentions Purdue or a Purdue player, people in the comments start talking about Edey getting all the calls. Even when it has nothing to do with the post lol.
Then, I just think about all the people that watch them play and just…
Zach Edey averages 2.1 APG.
That is better than Dalton Knecht (1.7) and Antonio Reeves (1.6).
That kind of blows my mind. I don’t know how to assess that 😅
There were only two teams in Men's College Basketball who were ranked in the AP Top 5 every week of the season (excluding pre season). The teams were:
Purdue and UCONN
Both teams are now in the Final Four. Consistency 👏
This is what leadership looks like. Purdue’s Zach Edey understands all the accolades and media attention he gets, but he has been very vocal about the play of his point guard Braden Smith. This is cool to see. Leadership 👏🏻
Here’s a fun video to get Purdue fans excited ahead of the IU game tomorrow. One of the craziest defensive plays I’ve ever seen on a basketball court brought to you by Chris Kramer. Enjoy.
Purdue’s Camden Heide is 6’7 215 and an incredible athlete. He has future All Big Ten defense written all over him. Combined with his offensive game. The ceiling is rather high I think.
Indiana's Gabe Cupps is quickly moving into discussion for 1st Team All Cardio. Meanwhile, Purdue's Braden Smith has his eyes set on All American honors. Fan delusion is crazy! 😂
Here are two fouls that were called on Purdue’s Zach Edey today.
There tends to be a lot of talk amongst fans in college basketball about the lack of calls against Edey.
What are your thoughts on these calls?
The emergence of Lance Jones for Purdue is likely the reason Purdue has a legit final four shot this year. The senior transfer guard is now averaging 13 PPG on the season and 18 PPG over the past six games knocking down 3+ three pointers per game.
We all know by now that Zach Edey is the best player in Men's College Basketball. But just how good has he been? Well, we likely are looking at the most dominant college basketball player since Shaquille O'Neal. It has been a historic run for the Purdue big man.
We really still doing this? Knecht is a star & 1st Team All American but to discredit Edey is just pure ignorance. I don't need to go into all the accolades, statistics, etc. I will simply say this. Ever wonder why a guy that height hasn't done what Edey has done?
It's because…
An interesting note about Purdue basketball. There season opening 53 point victory over Samford is a Quad 2 victory. Samford is 20-3 after starting the season 0-2 and is 1st in the Southern Conference boasting the nations 4th best scoring offense. Wild stat 👀
The hard part about the Zach Edey experiment is he will have a foul like the one there that doesn’t get called on him and it just gets highlighted like no other because people hate him so much.
That was a foul that was missed. Yes. But trust me he gets far less calls than he…
If there is one singular moment that I just noticed that brings all Big Ten fan bases together it is Coleman Hawkins blowing a game in epic fashion. Every single teams fan base is coming after him 😂
Jon Rothstein’s All American Teams were released today. Here they are.
FIRST TEAM
Zach Edey, Purdue
Dalton Knecht, Tennessee
R.J. Davis, UNC
Tristen Newton, UCONN
Jamal Shead, Houston
SECOND TEAM
Jaedon LeDee, San Diego State
Kevin McCullar, Kansas
Terrence…
My current Final Four predictions from Week 14. Iowa State and Kansas are about the same for me but giving a slight edge to Iowa State due to the defense. UCONN, Purdue, and Arizona remain in my Top 3.
Jamal Shead should win National Defensive Player of the Year.
His defense is suffocating. He gets down in his stance, beats & cuts off RayJ Dennis from getting the edge, bodies up, keep his hands active & by the ball which eliminates Dennis being able to cross over (otherwise a…
Add me to the Robert Jones fan club from Iowa State. Every team needs a guy like him.
He’s not the most gifted but he outworks his opponent nearly every game and every possession.
Can’t teach effort 👏🏻
@shannonsharpeee
What did he mean by “I wouldn’t get off the plane for you. Especially you. Maybe anyone else.” The way he is talking and suggesting, feels a little targeted. Then he uses the rich card to talk down to others. Odell is a joke
In the final 7:40 of the half when Purdue’s Braden Smith went to the bench with 2 fouls, Purdue went on a… 24-9 run.
If Purdue is doing this when Smith is nonexistent, I’m not sure what you do 😳
I hope everyone focuses on what truly matters in this video. Sampson talks about the man Shead is, the student he is, the role models his parents are, and how he genuinely loves him. Pretty neat. Have a great night everyone
Purdue’s Braden Smith is closing in on the schools single season assists per game and total assists record. At 7.3 APG, it would put him second all time behind Bruce Parkinson’s 7.4 in 1974. Smith ranks 3rd nationally in APG this season. Floor general for the Boilers
The past 3 Men's College Basketball National Champions have met this criteria.
- They have lost 1 or less games on neutral courts.
- They average more than 78 PPG.
- They allow 70 or less PPG.
The only remaining Sweet 16 teams that fit this are Duke, Purdue, and UCONN.
The past 3 Men's National Champions (UCONN, Kansas, & Baylor) all had one thing in common.
They caught fire from 3 in the tourney. They made at least 7.2 three's per game on 38.9%+ shooting.
Teams this year that qualify are Dayton, Purdue, Northwestern, Kentucky, & Samford.
Portal Thoughts:
I just can’t imagine being a fan of a team bringing in 3+ transfers each year knowing they will be gone the next. You don’t get to see them grow. You blink and they are gone.
How do you as a fan get excited for that? This is why I like the programs who are…
As someone who has posted about Zach Edey being officiated this year, this post is hilarious.
An Illinois fan posted this and nearly every Big Ten fan base is replying that it’s a foul including Illinois fans 😂
How do people that are trusted in the media say things like this. The opposing player has his knee inside Edey’s legs and is using all his force pushing into his lower back. How can people question this as not a foul? 🥴
Clip of Purdue’s Myles Colvin switching onto Ohio State’s Bruce Thornton. He steps out and beats Thornton baseline forcing him to back track while pressing up on him. Well done.
REALLY love this tape from Purdue’s Camden Heide. Double comes over and Heide is guarding AJ Storr so he does a quick flash hedge to body Tyler Wahl and has awareness to get in position to defend/disrupt the cutting Storr. Beautiful defense
