Rugby, radio, wordplay (did Countdown once), golf, manners and general bonhomie. I tweet match commentary typos for Exeter Cheifs. Committed anti-racist.
Final rugby tweet tonight. Henry Slade is one of the most naturally talented English players I have had the pleasure to watch. To see him wasted chasing kicks and hitting rucks is a criminal waste. He might just as well come back to Chiefs.
Thorough pissed off to be honest
Having seen Rob Baxter in both the TV and the press conference I am incredibly proud of him as our Director of Rugby. 5% up when we win, 5% down when we lose. No fuss. No blame. Just calm measured words about his team’s strengths and weaknesses.
He is a rare diamond.
Did my old rugby traditionalist’s heart a power of good to see a Premiership side being marched back on four occasions for back chat.
Hope it is replicated everywhere.
Just heard there will be a socially distanced concert in the O2 in a couple of weeks.
4,000, in an indoor venue.
Meanwhile there will be 300 or so at the OUTDOOR venue Twickenham on Saturday for the
@ExeterChiefs
v
@WaspsRugby
@premrugby
final.
Anybody else confuddled?
Very disappointing to read criticism of
@btsportrugby
coverage of the
@premrugby
.
They are managing to provide all supporters of all teams full live coverage.
I’m very thankful for their commitment to the sport. Huzzah!
Rugby Union followers:
Does anyone else feel that ‘simulation’ has crept into the game? A couple of times at the weekend I saw someone clutching their head only to make a miraculous recovery.
Someone suggested that anyone doing this is in need of an immediate HIA.
I concur
My lovely son sent me this photo and asked me: ‘If I’m not in heaven and not in hell where can I be?’
I’m ashamed to say it took me ten minutes. I think this is almost in
@MooseAllain
territory!
The guy inside the Chiefs mascot has, literally, sweated buckets and travelled many, many miles for the club. No value judgements from me on any of the contentious debate. Simply a huge thank you for everything he has done for the club.
Chapeau sir.
What a lifelong thrill to put this after your name:
Luke Cowan-Dickie 🦁
Jonny Hill 🦁
Stuart Hogg 🦁
Sam Simmonds 🦁
How many
@ExeterChiefs
fans would have envisaged this back in the day?
#Lions2021
A long day. Physically and mentally. Following
@ExeterChiefs
and being a very small part of their journey has brought highs and lows. Today was a low. Will it stop me turning up again and again? Of course not. That is what being a supporter is all about. Isn’t it?
Today Sam Simmonds was playing against an international class back row. Made carries, made yards, scored a try, came off the base of the scrum like a rocket.
Biased? Me? Yes. But, but, but . . .
Eventful day at Sandy Park. However, once again, a tip of the hat to two people.
Ollie Devoto who said nope when asked if he’d scored.
Rob Baxter who backed the referee’s decision at the end of the game.
Win or lose, the Chiefs have it right.
Morning after reflection.
Could not be prouder of
@ExeterChiefs
. Skill, flair and grit in abundance.
More importantly. I was fortunate to be in the tunnel and on the pitch post game. The mutual respect between the two sides’ players and staff was humbling.
Chapeau rugby
On a personal level, having seen a 17 year old
@joesimmo10
play with my son at Teignmouth RFC it is an absolute delight to see him lift the Champions Trophy.
OK. This is a hill on which I will die.
Referees should only ever call ‘Blue 7’, ‘Red 3’, ‘White 9’.
No team names, no nicknames, no given names. Ever.
Happy Christmas to all the
@ExeterChiefs
supporters on here.
Yes Christmas Day is fine and dandy, but who else is looking forward equally to Saracens on Sunday?
@ExeterChiefs
fans only:
Don’t know about anyone else but the post match blues of this season after virtually every match, win or lose, are not present tonight.
I have a hunch we may be about to do that Exeter thing of opening up in the last half of the race.
@ExeterChiefs
fans. Just analysed the last try. Of the 14 Chiefs’ players on the pitch 12 had hands on at some point whilst moving the ball from behind our own tryline at one point to the opposition tryline. Eight mauls and approximately 30 passes.
No errors. One heck of a try.
For my whole life I have loved the whole Swallows and Amazons series. Today I fulfilled a 55 year old ambition by paddling into the secret harbour of Wildcat Island. Was a tad emotional.
@ArthurSociety
Of course it is sad to see
@SamSk95
and Jonny Hill move on from
@ExeterChiefs
. However, they need to make the most of their careers and I’ll always be watching them where possible and wishing them all the best.
Life moves on. That’s how it goes.
Shame European Rugby Championship Final organisers couldn’t have created two blocks of 100 socially distanced seats and given all 46 players of
@ExeterChiefs
and
@racing92
4 tickets each.
Parents and partners have supported them all the way. They deserved a seat at the stadium.
Been musing on today’s match. When I look back to (my) early days with Exeter Chiefs at far flung Championship outposts I feel privileged I can watch a Premiership side who have won everything and now have to puzzle their way out of a conundrum.
That’s being a fan. It’s fun!
Dear MrsP.
You know all those weekend jobs you store up for me to come home to after a week slaving away in Hertfordshire?
Ain’t gonna happen.

Absolutely gutted for the friendliest club in the Prem. Thoughts are with every single one of the players and staff at
@londonirish
.
Rugby Union in England is staring into the abyss.
Just heard the Premier League lobbying government to get fans back, warning of dire financial crisis.
Just read a Premier League footballer signed a £55m three year deal.
Square that circle?
Today, at Chiefs, I saw a dynamic, strong, intelligent back row forward who set up one try and scored another. Put a lot of hard graft in as well.
I make no further comment.
"Call off the dogs, Jack Nowell is in!"
Exeter have their 7th try at Welford Road 🔥
And it's a brilliant interception by
@nowellsy15
...
Wait for Ellis Genge at the end 😂
Every time Rob Baxter is interviewed post game, win or lose, he approaches it with equal emotion. Speaks so eloquently too.
Highly admirable.
Bromance . . .
It’s a losing battle, but this is the small hill on which I am prepared to die:
‘should of’ = ‘should have’
‘would of’ = ‘would have’
‘could of’ = ‘could have’
Today I qualify for a State pension. My chronological age has finally caught up with the old git persona I’ve carefully cultivated over many years.
(Inside every old person there is a bewildered youth wondering how the heck this has happened.)
Big
@dave_ewers
. A talisman, an icon, a block of granite. The very definition of ‘hard yards’.
Sad he isn’t ending his career at Chiefs but, like all sportspeople, he has to make the most of a short career.
Many thanks for every yard Dave and best wishes for the future.
No illusions about my breadth of influence but a plea that if you are switching to buying online please consider independents. Huge monopolies may be cheaper now but . . .
A Retweet of this if you agree would be welcome.
Congratulations, a curtsy and a bow to
@ExeterChiefs
’ Rob Baxter OBE and
@joesimmo10
MBE.
I suspect the dressing room pranksters are going to have a field day.
Two years after starting to play the infuriatingly addictive game of golf I managed a major milestone today.
For the first time I finished an 18 hole course with the same ball with which I started 🤣.
Grumpy Mrs Parrett said getting served morning tea by an unclothed old git was bad news. Consequently the last four mornings she has been served by Woody, Abba, a country gent & James Bond. Tomorrow’s drag queen will not be shared 😂. (Yes, lockdown IS beginning to get boring.)
Reviewing the
@ExeterChiefs
game. Tickles me that people complain about Chiefs ‘only scoring from 5m’. To get to that point requires excellent work from the backs. Yesterday every one of them contributed significantly to getting the forwards to 5m. Then? Well, good night Vienna.
@ExeterChiefs
The morning after the night before and my final words are (slightly amended) from Kipling:
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same; . . .
. . . you’ll be an Exeter Chief, my friend.
See you next season 😘
Dear
@EnglandRugby
,
@premrugby
and
@WorldRugby
Please clamp down on all the backchat. It is getting beyond a joke, downright embarrassing and against all the dearly held tenets we spout about rugby values.
Yours sincerely
An old guard
OK. I rarely, if ever, comment about refereeing decisions. However, decisions about referees I am very happy to dive in.
Wayne Barnes is, without doubt, the best referee in the world. Luke Pearce, to my mind, is on his way to that level. So why isn’t Pearce AR1 for the Final?
@ExeterChiefs
supporters. Horrible result but please join me in saluting Ross Vintcent who played 78 minutes with a horrible nose injury. The man is a warrior.
David Flatman won my fun ‘World Cup of Pundits’ a while back. Really not surprising. Mixes in-depth knowledge (not limited to the scrum) with articulate wit.
Chapeau
@davidflatman
Just watched the full replay of
#EXEvR92
, without having my head buried in the laptop.
Apologies to
@OllieDevoto
and
@StuartWHOGG_
, both of whom I misidentified, for a crucial tackle and turnover respectively.
For those in doubt - I can confirm
@ExeterChiefs
won . . .
With all the horrors going on in the world this casual litter - everything neatly put in the bag and then chucked out of a car window on a quiet country lane - is minor and shouldn’t upset me. But it does. Why do this?

The next two Honours Lists should only contain names of essential workers and charity funders.
Anyone agree? Rarely ask for Retweets, but I am this time.
Today marks the start of
#SixNations
. The annual tournament that takes us rugby nuts from the depths of winter through to the blossoming of spring.
Hope every English, French, Irish, Italian, Scottish and Welsh fan (note alphabetic order) has an absolute ball: win or lose.

Top journalist. Fearless, honest.
Ignore the haters.
Mute the idiots.
Report abuse.
Take a break from this cesspit if necessary.
The outpouring of admiration and respect to your tweet says it all.
Please bear with a bit of boasting. Today I hit a weight reduction of 10kg. This has taken 14 weeks AND includes the last six weeks of no exercise due to a nasty Achilles problem.

Today is my annual ‘Walk To And From

@ExeterChiefs
Day’. 18 mile round trip. No idea why I do it, probably to prove I am still a young limb.
(And allows me to have a couple of 🍷🍷 😊).
If the
@lionsofficial
win tomorrow I pledge to play Sweet (bloody) Caroline at full volume on the final whistle. There will be video proof.
It is THAT important.
People saying they don’t understand the
@ChampionsCup
format 20/21. Here is the simple explanation: twenty-four teams compete for a few months then Exeter Chiefs win the final.
Hubris, come to me 😊
Positive Tweet after a bad day with
@ExeterChiefs
.
A lovely supporter came up to me outside the changing rooms and said:
‘Please tell the lads we are as gutted as they are, and we still love them and will always support them’.
I hope any player who reads this, shares it.
