"Streaming shouldn't be about the money." Honestly fuck off. Content creation is an entertainment Industry. Content Creators deserve to be paid for the hard work and money invested into streaming. Stop shaming people for earning. Stop making money a taboo topic in streaming.
I don’t think people realise that streamers recognise when members of their community become absent or leave to be in other communities. For many of us, viewers are more than just a number. We think about you guys. We wonder if you’re okay. We miss you. We hope you’re happy 💖
Today on TikTok.
I watched a man say, with his whole chest, that periods should only occur once a year and having it monthly is unnatural due to diet.
I'm sorry. But can we stop giving microphones to men like this who have no basic grasp of how a menstrual cycle works?! 😂
Please do not ask a streamer why their chat is quiet or where is everyone. We already are aware. We’re holding it together whilst still producing good content. We don’t need a reminder that it’s quiet. That literally makes or breaks a streamers mood.
Joking about sexual assault isn't banter.
It's an indication that you should seek therapy to address your deep rooted hatred for women in gaming spaces.
Don't do this.
We have no choice. We can't turn ads off. Also some of us rely on them for additional income.
I run a singular pre-roll so I can give the best viewing experience to my community and those who can't afford to sub. This was a kick in the teeth last night.
"Are you going to play the game or just chat?"
My brother in Christ, this is a Live Stream.
If you want to watch someone just PLAY a game then go watch a YouTube Let's Play. Not Twitch where most of us prioritise engagement and interactivity.
Fuck me.
And that's me ending 2022 with a bang.
I can't believe this. I only applied last night and it was my first application!
I could not have done this without my amazing community. I'm so grateful to them and their love and support.
Thank you. This means so much 💖
Streaming can be so lonely sometimes. I have an amazing community, but trying to make friends with other streamers feels really difficult. It's almost like trying to enter a friendship group where loads of people already know each other, but you're just awkwardly there 🥲
@ReezyResells
@AriTheAssassin
No there isn't, not if you both work full time and want to provide a decent life for your children beyond shopping thrift and eating rice and beans. Bringing kids into a financially unstable position where they'll struggle as a consequence is selfish.
How not to leave a stream -
Telling a streamer you are going to watch someone else.
Announcing that you are about to go stream yourself.
How to leave a stream -
!lurk
"I got to go, have a great stream!"
"Need to head off! Catch you next time!"
Or say nothing.
@MissNerdyCurvy
There's no justification for this reaction.
He could have displayed empathy whilst guiding you to a more appropriate space, like a discord care zone, where you could discuss it properly.
"I'm sorry for your loss, if you need to talk please reach out."
It's not your fault 💖
Can we stop telling content creators that they NEED to be posting on all social platforms and START reassuring them that it's okay to only be using one or two? There's only so many hours in a day. Not everyone has the time or energy to spend editing videos for YouTube or TikTok.
I'm just going to say it.
Some of you really don't deserve to have Twitch Partner.
It's not just about CCV but community - in providing a welcoming and inclusive space for all.
If you're going out of your way to exclude and be derogatory, it should be taken from you.
Tell streamers how much you enjoy their content. Hype them up. Mention what it is about them that keeps you coming back. That little boost of confidence. That sign they are doing something right. Sometimes that's all we need to keep us pushing onwards. It means the world.
Reasons I'm not moving to YouTube:
- Discoverability is awful.
- Live streaming is not the priority. Offline content is.
- YouTube is not a perfect platform. It has just as many issues as Twitch (if not more).
- My community and friends are on Twitch.
If I unfollow you on Twitch it is absolutely nothing personal. I wanted to refine my LIVE channels down to people that I regularly watch.
What I don't appreciate is being DM'd. It shouldn't matter who I follow or don't. It feels odd to track it that specifically.
Or don't since you could technically fall under the community guidelines, which state that your content must be accurately portrayed, especially if you do any of the following
- play 18+ games
- excessively swear
- utilise sexual jokes and innuendos
Not worth the risk.
You're a dick.
If someone gifted me a game and I didn't like it, I'd keep that info to myself.
Why?
Because it's the gesture that counts. Shame you didn't learn that as a kid.
You also could have refused the gift. Clearly were interested enough to accept.
Your mods are volunteers and viewers, not employees. You aren't paying their bills. Don't expect them to sacrifice their free time for you. Some of the unrealistic expectations that are put on mods is wild. Y'all need to realise it's a volunteer position, not a signed contract.
The damage control y'all are trying to do in order to JUSTIFY being on Kick is hilarious.
If this was Twitch, you can bet that you'd be at our throats if we weren't condemning the platform and it's founders.
Don't worry - we all know you value money more than morals.
Signs of genuine streamer friendships
✨They understand their content might not be for you.
✨They don't get upset if you have to stop your sub.
✨They don't cut you off if you stop watching them.
✨They understand that real life comes first.
If you're going to hold a discussion on a controversial topic like Hogwart's Legacy, maybe start with making sure that the panel consists of mainly trans creators.
Since they are, you know, the ones directly impacted by the harm of JKR's popularity.
To everyone complaining about viewership being down and believing that this is doomsday for Twitch. Remember that
- Mid terms and exams are coming up.
- Seasonal Affective Disorder.
- People experiencing big life transitions.
As a start up - this is not the way to attract people to your platform. Belittling and mocking people for their appearance or viewership screams "we won't take reports of bullying and harassment seriously."
For anyone considering jumping ship? Be VERY careful.
It still baffles me that people will only support your content if you return the favour, or have an ulterior motive of leeching from your community.
Support should stem from a genuine enjoyment of the creator and their content. Nothing more.
Sick of it. Money shouldn't be a taboo topic. Streaming is an industry. Their pay is dependent on others and that's fine. But stop shaming streamers for earning or wanting to earn. It's a business just like anything else. Only it's a more fun business model than most
Your community reflects you.
If you've a VIP spouting vile rhetoric and you aren't doing anything about it, that's on you.
If you know this conversation attracts transphobia, MODERATE YOUR DAMN SPACE!
If a trans person says they feel unsafe, it's YOUR DUTY to find out WHY!
@ReezyResells
@AriTheAssassin
It's not an excuse to want the best for your kids. Why would you want to bring kids into an environment where money and bills are an extreme concern? I grew up with that. I absolutely will not have kids if my finances aren't in order. That would be selfish of me to inflict that.
I deactivated my Hive Social account. What seemed like a great alternative has become problematic
From inconsistent information regarding a team member's ableist slurs to graphic porn, despite turning off mature content, I really am not vibing with the app anymore.
I'm a big advocate for don't trauma dump.
But have some compassion and respond appropriately! You asked her where she'd been. She opened up. You could have displayed empathy whilst guiding her to a more appropriate space to vent.
Instead you blew up on her. This is disgusting.
I know that I’m also in the wrong a little for saying “well my mom died” in a stream after being asked where have I been but the response just isn’t it fam…I made a tweet longer thingy to share a little background but here ya go..
Twitch clarified that you can watch more than one person on Twitch at the same time + muting still counts.
Best part - People can stop spreading misinformation
Worst part - All the S4S streamers screaming about how many people they're going to tab open now as 'support'.
Deleted my last post at the streamer's request - they're extremely apologetic.
However, point still stands. If you come in with a raid and I'm not your vibe - leave. Do not clip me and tell me I'm not the raider's vibe in an attempt to disrespect me and my content.
No excuse.
It's done!!
It's over!!
I didn't pass with what I was hoping for but that's okay. We deal with it as we go but at least it's not a resubmission or a fail!! ️
Absolutely not.
Viewership CANNOT be controlled. It's wildly inconsistent and to penalise creators for that is a bad take. Not only would it create a toxic environment, it'd be detrimental to people's mental health.
Also not everyone is able-bodied enough to be consistent.
Ok this may stir up some heat. I think if you drop below a 3 viewer average consistently then the affiliate status should also drop. AND HEAR ME OUT.
This is cause if there’s no standards, then I don’t feel it’s as valuable of a status to hold.
Thoughts?
Cross your fingers for me.
I've an interview opportunity that I'm really excited about.
Close to home. More money. Social media management included in the role AND bank holidays off!! 😭❤️
If you're biphobic take the rainbow flag out ya bio.
Rainbow flag represents ALL.
Hence why there's individual flags representing gay, lesbian, bi, trans etc.
Maybe educate yourself because you look a fool.
You aren't a small streamer. You are undiscovered. You aren't a bad creator because your streams are growing slowly. It's just the right people haven't found you yet. You aren't indecisive. You are experimenting to see what works. Let's stop speaking about ourselves negatively ♥️
I - is a pronoun.
Me - is a pronoun.
Imagine admitting that 4 year olds are smarter than you since PRONOUNS are taught as part of sentence structuring from that age.
Can you refund and delete your Twitter since you're fragile enough to be upset by linguistics?
Twitch communities are constantly changing.
Your current mod team and regulars may not be the same this time next year, and that's okay.
Sometimes we serve our purpose and people move on. Other times we are exactly what someone needs.
You still made them smile and laugh ❤️
You know what I can't abide?
People who use your viewer average to mock and berate. You realise that viewership is beyond a streamer's control right? You can't force people to sit in your stream.
Also - EVERYONE is experiencing a dip right now.
It's grim. Grow up.
Do you ever feel like people only want to know you when you're doing well in content creation?
It always makes me nervous when people suddenly have a vested interest in my content the MINUTE I have a boom, but knew who I was and never cared prior.
I dunno.
When I'm in someone else's stream, I'm there as a viewer. Not a streamer. This is why I hate the whole 'networking = growth' advice. You should watch content you enjoy, with no expectations of returned support or that a 'network' with them would be beneficial. It irks me.
@_wefoundthebody
What other people do shouldn't inform your lack of empathy for someone whose just lost their mum.
It's not hard to say "I'm sorry for your loss" and offer to have this conversation outside of stream. You displayed a callous lack of care for your community's wellbeing. Be better
And this is what transphobia gets you.
Not only policing and denying trans people their right to exist, but also the policing of CIS women's bodies.
Has it sunk in for you TERF'S yet that you won't be excluded from this? That misogyny isn't your friend or ally?
Fucking hell.
“I watch 20 channels a day. I gift numerous subs, bits, and donations. Yet no one supports my channel in return.” If your support comes with an ulterior motive then there’s your issue. Streamers can read when something feels off. Support shouldn’t be viewed as an investment.
I'm going to say this loud and clear.
No amount of viewership is worth your integrity as a human being. I would happily drop to 5 viewers overnight than support an abuser for the sake of partner.
Nothing in this world is worth the cost of ignoring a victim's trauma.
@Skeletoncraft4
@Twitch
If you think a woman wearing a normal top is eliciting a sexual reaction in you then seek help.
Women exist. Boobs exist. What do you want us to do? Wear jumpers? If you can't be around women wearing normal clothing, without sexualising them, then the issue lies with you.
So far this year
- I got partnered on Twitch
- I got a job and passed probation
- I successfully defended my PhD and submitted my corrections on Monday.
Oh and I also got Partnered on YouTube in 10 DAYS!!! 😭💖
Since b0wserTV has pre-emptively blocked me, please do not listen to his advice of
"if people truly love streaming they would support streamers more and stream less."
It's designed to bolster his S4S community. As content creators YOU NEED to be producing your own content.
@AGhostMachine
This isn't even the bare minimum. You SA'd a much younger woman. You gaslighted her. You ruined her reputation. You isolated her from safe spaces.
FOR 2 YEARS!!
You frankly don't deserve a platform at all after this. This is incredibly predatory and manipulative.
God, the engagement farming tweets are getting even worse.
"What's stopping you from being a full time streamer?"
Are you really asking that in this economy? Come on😂
@Viper19814
Sorry, but why are you trying to shit on Cait's moment?
Yeah, growing a community is hard but that's not her problem or responsibility.
If you can't be happy for others in this space and celebrate their wins then it's your attitude that is putting people off.
You cannot demand people to accept an apology when behaviour is little changed.
Scheduling a video to drum up hype with donation links isn't a great look. Blocking anyone who critiqued you isn't being open to listening and accountability.
Actions have consequences.
After 6 long months of sacrificing my weekends whilst working 40 hours and creating content.
I can officially confirm that my PhD corrections have been signed off.
I'M GRADUATING IN JULY OF 2024!!
I'M A DOCTOR BABY!!!
Anyone else feeling burned out with streaming?
I love my community dearly but my mood lately has just been so eh.
I feel like if I stopped would anyone actually care? You know? And I'm worried if I take a break I'll never come back.
It's a weird feeling 🥲
Met on Tinder the day before I flew to England because mental breakdown.
We spoke for a month and on my first day back in Belfast we went on a date, but I didn't prebook bowling in case I got stood up.
We're 5 years tomorrow and he never let's me forget that we couldn't bowl!
I can't describe how I'm feeling right now other than I'm crying and full of love and appreciation.
The fact I've even got to this point of being able to apply is insanity.
I'm going to hold off as I sense a dip is going to happen BUT I'm so grateful.
Thank you 😭💖
Being partnered doesn't mean you've hit the big time. Averaging 100 viewers does not make you a big streamer. Partnered streamers still deserve support. Can we stop with this whole bullshit of only supporting non-partnered creators? View counts shouldn't equate to support.
@duderooni
You don't have to like the games, but to dimiss those of us that do is outlandish.
Soulsborne reinforces crucial lessons that when life hits you hard, you keep pushing. You keep trying. You rise to the challenge. You dont give up. You overcome.
But no, we're all lying 🙄
After 10 days...
I can finally say that I killed Malenia at Level 1 AND Hitless!!
I have never cried after beating a boss. Not even during my BL4.
However, THIS made me cry.
I'm so proud of myself for achieving this and proving myself wrong!
Hit my lowest viewer average in months last night.
But on the plus side
I have 2 job interviews next week AND I just submitted my PhD!!!
Sometimes you win some and sometimes you lose some. Now time to go treat myself to ice cream as a celebration ❤️
Ay yo!
It's March 1st. Meaning I can finally confirm that
@Twitch
has picked me to be one of their collaborative steamers for Women's History Month!
Ya might even get to see my face on the front page!
This is such an exciting opportunity and I cannot wait to be involved 🥰
It's not cancel culture to be held accountable for problematic and harmful opinions.
Ultimately, you can say and do as you please but don't be surprised when people no longer see you as a safe space, and/or utilise their platform to highlight why that is.
When your boyfriend took the long way home last night, because he noticed the two girls going the same way as him were nervous and glancing back
The respect and consideration he had for their feelings is just 🥺💖
Stop comparing female streamers to others in order to insult them. "Oh I'm so glad to find a female streamer that doesn't use her boobs for views." No, fuck that shit. That's not okay. It's degrading. I stand by women wearing what they want. I will not be your 'comparison'.
I have seen some disgusting assumptions made today about creators who streamed today, with no awareness that a boycott was happening. A boycott that depended on it appearing on your timeline and was easily missed.
Not boycotting doesn't make you a genocide sympathiser.
The minute I cracked down on no mental health talk - I've noticed a few people have stopped showing up. Almost as if my streams weren't a source of entertainment, but a means for venting and trauma dumping on me.
Streamers aren't your therapists.
🧵Since some of you are intent on having the conversation of removing JKR from the art, whilst bringing up wild comparisons, let's have this discussion from my perspective as someone with a BA and an MA in English Literature, and soon a PhD.
"Enjoy however much money you got from that"
Is a horrible response when I merely explained that I don't get a choice, and it's either ONE pre-roll or MULTIPLE ads per hour.
This made me feel that regardless of what I do, it's never good enough and I'm exhausted.
Please don't announce to a streamer that you are leaving to go and watch someone else. We fully understand people might want to chill elsewhere. What's not okay is to draw attention to that. It's hurtful and inconsiderate.
I've gone from a Tom Nook hater to a Tom Nook Defender. Why?
- He gives you a 0% mortgage in this economy!
- He doesn't pressure you to pay it back!
- He doesn't charge interest!
- There's no ethical consumption under Capitalism - not even in Animal Crossing!
There's a difference between not wanting to talk about politics in terms of the news, and not wanting to talk about marginalised issues.
For many of us, our identities are political. If you aren't making your stances clear, you could be harbouring hatred within your community.
On the side of TikTok where a man lost his wife during childbirth, moved on after 6 weeks with a woman he met AT THE BABY SHOWER, and allows her to call herself 'mom' to the little girl.
I swear, this would be me:
Just signed my contract. Start 20th March!
Honestly so happy. It's everything I wanted.
- Hybrid so 3 days in office, 2 days home.
- No weekend work.
- 8:30 to 5:30pm
Now I get to treat myself to cute work clothes!! 🥰
Reasons why lurk commands can be useful:
- Mods notifying you that they need to step away.
- Stops you trailing on a conversation with a viewer that's stepped back and is chilling.
- A way to show that you are there without being an active chatter.
This is ridiculous. It should have been permanent.
All this is going to do is add fuel to the fire. It's going to be used to support the stereotype that 'women have it easier' whilst undermining the difficulties we do have with sexism and misogyny.
Well done Twitch.
Can we get rid of the notion that networking is about boosting viewership, and replace it instead with networking as a means to make legitimate connections/friendships with other streamers without them having to watch your content? Thanks! ✨
I understand people want to know who this. If they had influence I would name.
They have none. Outing them only allows people to rush into their DM's. Their behaviour is abhorrent but they don't deserve to be made unsafe. This is an education on WHAT NOT to do.
Do NOT mention your own streams, your stream schedule, that you're about to stream in a live streamer's chat. The only time it is ever okay to talk about your streams is when asked by the person streaming. Until then - don't bring it up. It's not productive to making connections.
I'm just going to say it.
I don't like "small pee pee energy" jokes. It's no different to saying "small tits energy".
Both make a joke of something that someone cannot change about themselves, and is body shaming.
I used to say it but the older I get - the more yikes it is.
For anyone that’s been with me and moved onto other streamers, or have simply vanished from Twitch, you’re never just been a number and I hope you are keeping safe and are hydrated. Thank you for giving me support no matter how long it was for. It will always be appreciated!
If you're applauding this, please stay away from me.
For 2 years the victim was gaslighted and isolated from safe spaces by you, Ghost.
This isn't the bare minimum. You shouldn't be thanked for this. You committed a crime and manipulated the narrative in your favour.
If I'm emotional tonight whilst fighting Malenia, it's because I just got my final edits back for my PhD thesis.
My supervisor called it "exceptional" and that it's "some really special work throughout."
Minor typos and a bit to fix in my introduction and then I can submit!
You know what I've never understood? People being concerned about other people's viewership.
So what if a partner averages 10 or an affiliate is averaging 100.
Is it your stream? No? Then stay in your lane and focus on your own content.
Damn. Some of us do this as a hobby 😂
Friendly reminder that you don't need to respond to every message in chat - especially ones that give off weird energy.
It's absolutely okay to ignore and focus your attention elsewhere. If it really bugs you then you can just ban.
I'll die on this hill.
Imagine being so fragile that you can't enjoy a game because it has
✨PRONOUNS✨
Besties, all the games you play have pronouns. Whether pre-set or selected.
You can literally just select the ones that apply to you and get on with enjoying your game.
It's not hard.
I'm so close to just deleting Twitter.
I'm exhausted. It's like being back in school. Everyone looking for any bit of dirt or gossip to turn into content.
I'm done. Just done.
