We haven’t been dealt a bad hand. What we did was loosen restrictions despite rising variant cases, allow out-of-province travel, stall in-school mask mandates, & did not enforce orders or tailor the message. The 3rd wave is the outcome of that inaction.1/ #bcpoli #COVID19 #bced

Today I asked Premier @jjhorgan what, in a pandemic, his government owes to the people and those who live with them who are medically vulnerable or immunocompromised? The Minister of Health answered instead. 1/ #bcpoli #COVID19BC #COVID19

Name-calling (β€œhysterical”) and scapegoating (β€œdon’t blow this”) diminish trust. Recognize that people are both exhausted and anxious, and are looking for leadership right now. Show empathy, compassion, and understanding. 9/9 #bcpoli #COVID19BC #bced

Thanks for the catch, Kara. This was a mistake. We’re in a BA.5 wave & more are coming. Masks will be mandatory for this event. We will provide N95s. Eating will be outdoors. We have called for leadership and a precautionary approach to Covid. We need to model that.

Aw, come ON @BCGreens , @bcgreencaucus , @SoniaFurstenau . What is this? You KNOW this excludes people and is unsafe! β€œAbiding by the province’s health guidelinesβ€œ while (correctly!) criticizing them is NOT a strong position to take! Do better! We need you to!

This chapter of the pandemic has me the most worried. When we should be treating this pandemic and the Delta variant with the utmost seriousness, we are seeing increasing cases in schools, lack of support for unhoused people w/ COVID, and increasing community division. 1/ #bcpoli

Encampments are, for lack of a better alternative, people’s homes. Destroying them and dispersing the inhabitants without providing immediate #housing options is a cruel and failed tactic Yesterday was the 7th time in 8 years the #DTES encampments have been removed. 1/ #bcpoli

Today, I was made aware of Dr. Sanjiv Gandhi, deputy leader, liking a tweet with an inappropriate comparison between our provincial health officer and Mengele. I find this unacceptable and I have removed Dr. Gandhi as deputy leader and accepted his resignation as a candidate.

We need clarity, not confusion, from the @bcndp . It is becoming increasingly difficult to understand what informs #COVID19 decision-making in BC. Our healthcare system is struggling, health care workers are burning out, & patients’ needs are not being met. 1/ #bcpoli #COVID19BC

Nearly a quarter of people with disabilities live in poverty in British Columbia. We're calling on the @bcndp to raise the shamefully low disability rates to at least above the poverty line before federal funding comes through. 1/ #bcpoli #PWD #RaisetheRates

It's time for the @bcndp to listen to teachers so they can feel safe in their classrooms. Beginning with a mask mandate and continuing with improved social distancing, better ventilation and increased hybrid learning options. We have to keep everyone safe. #bced #bcpoli #COVID19

Learning to live with this virus should not mean pretending it is over; it should mean that we keep simple, universal basic protections in places where they keep us safe and provide a predictable plan that we can work towards and anticipate. 3/ #bcpoli #COVID19BC

It was astonishing to hear this gov't talk about their climate change plan in Question Period and ignore the fact that they doubled public subsidies for oil and gas companies to $1.3 billion a year. The @bcndp is funding climate change. #bcpoli

. @CBCTheHouse The debate is not whether people are β€œfor energy or against energy”. What is needed is a transition to renewable, clean energy that does not contribute to catastrophic climate change .

On their #COVID19 policies this gov't likes to say β€œwe follow the science." But our policies are not based on the raw data, they are based on the values viewed as important by gov't & used to interpret the science. Today I want to talk about those values. 1/ #bcpoli #COVID19BC

I'm deeply concerned about the news coming from Punjab, India. Press freedoms, easy access to information and access to the internet are all cornerstones of a strong democracy.
