The morning after, I just wanted to say thank you to every person who supported us through this campaign…I am genuinely overwhelmed & humbled by the amount of messages sent through overnight. It may take a while, but I will try to reply to every message sent through! 🇫🇯🇫🇯🇫🇯
Well I guess it is time to make it official, specifically what the next cycle will look like for Fiji Rugby…I will not be seeking an extension of employment with FRU past 31st December. Thanks again to the players, staff & all the supporters, it has been quite a ride! 🇫🇯🇫🇯🇫🇯
I love scrums, I love resets, I love cauliflower ears, I love front rowers discussing scrums like they are cracking The Da Vinci Code, I love backs getting frostbite on a winters night, I love the fact a short stumpy bloke can be the highest paid player on a team…I love scrums!
One week the chat is the need to de-power the scrum, next week it’s the maul, next week it’s the ruck, key fundamentals that makes our game truly unique…do we change to suit a style/some or do we embrace what is uniquely rugby union?
I vote the later, loved tonight’s match…🤷🏾♂️
Scrum discussion:
🗣 "By giving a penalty where you can take 3 points or kick for touch and maul, you are incentivising scrummaging to get the penalty!"
🗣 "World Rugby have to make a decision. Do we want the scrum to be the focal point of our game?"

“…we f*cking shouldn’t have lost to Fiji” and why is that?
…let’s not take away from the fact Fiji played really well…greatest day in Fiji Rugby…nothing against Fiji’s performance…but…but…but…
It starts to get a little condescending…do our young men deserve that?
Drew doesn’t hold back 😡 after the Wallabies defeat to Fiji. He wants some answers from Eddie and he wants them now!

I love the confidence. If you wish I could organise a little 10m gauntlet drill with Radradra, Tuisova, Yato, Nakarara and Mata as an introduction? I can even format the drill to suit, 15 seconds on, 15 minutes off...
Officially finished up with Fiji Rugby Union, very thankful for the experiences & what has been achieved over an interesting 4 years!
Thanks to entire HPU, all players & in particular the good friends I have made…rugby in Fiji will always hold a place dear to my heart…🇫🇯❤️
First dinner back in Fiji, had to be the chicken curry from Tanoa International…waiter asks how spicy would you like it, reply “so it hurts in the morning “! 🌶️
Not every day you get to meet King Charles lll & Queen Camilla, even better to be able to provide a guard of honour & showcase a little bit of our culture!
Certainly a precious moment for Flying Fijians and Fiji Rugby as whole. Our team was greeted by His Majesty King Charles III.
His Majesty also wished good luck to the team for the upcoming matches.

Handre Pollard was the best 10 in the world the 2nd November 2019 & 29th October 2023…when it mattered, the other dates were just preparation for that!
Handre Pollard has never been the best 10 in the world in *any* year of his international career. Perhaps 2014, his first, he could have been top three. Most years he hasn’t been top five. Excellent goal kicking doesn’t make him a top 10.
The best 10 in each year:
2014: Johnny…
Rugby gave me everything as a kid, a family, education, discipline, responsibility to others, confidence, friendship and a sense of belonging as a child…everything I am today is because of those experiences within rugby.
Is rugby bad for kids? 🏉
A group of researchers say high-impact sports including rugby are “abusive to a child’s brain”.
They’re calling for a ban for under-18s.

One of the beautiful things about Fiji is that rugby is the people’s game, no matter what time a match is being played, how far we have to travel to watch it…we will find a way!
Here are the students of RKS early Monday morning before school, with us as one! 🇫🇯❤️

I have missed my wife & kids birthdays, our wedding anniversary, picking my daughter up from school, drinking a beer with my sons, walking the dog, etc, for the last 4 years…they have shared enough, it’s time to go home!
@drew_mitchell
Was directed more towards the general discourse, our boys take their licks in defeat with humility…but they also deserve their flowers when earned.
Love what you guys are doing, unique, insightful and unfiltered…apologies, just a little too over protective of this group! 🇫🇯👊🏾
Being away from “home” for so long, it is so important to create a base with a sense of this is ours…a sense of home. We have been so lucky to be paired with Bordeaux Renaissance Hotel who have catered to our every need…we are very happy to be “home” tonight! 🇫🇯
When you love what you do and you love who you do it with, it is no longer work! 🇫🇯💪🏾❤️
Huge credit goes to our performance staff and the work they are doing

Luke Tagi & Peni Matawalu please be careful with those knives! 🔪🩸👀🇫🇯
Owen Farrell, Wayne Barnes and others…worrying signs when the best in our game are needing a break or leaving the game completely due in large to how they are treated & online abuse…a reminder to us all that we can all be better, treat others how you would want to be treated…

With all the noise around Immanuel Feyi-Waboso not choosing to play for Wales, what has been forgotten about a little bit is what a gem Rio Dyer is…I think he can be a genuine superstar of the game, been super impressed every time I have watched him in the last 12-18 months!

@rugbyworldcup
We need all levels having the opportunity to play each other or we go down the path of the ring fencing “rich getting richer” and the rest falling further & further behind. This World Cup has shown with investment & opportunities, developing nations are improving on all levels…
"Ireland is still the best team in the world." ☘
At least we can lift the Felipe Contepomi called us 'the best in the world' trophy! 🏆🥳
Do you believe Ireland are still the best team in the world? 🏉
Join in the obsession ➡
Both are unbelievable teams, one has been the most consistent team in the world the last 4/5years, the other has won two Rugby World Cups…you have to ask yourself, which team would switch the last 5 years with the other?
Ireland are still a step above South Africa and New Zealand due to consistency. They’ve won 84% under Andy Farrell. 18 in a row at home. Won 20 of the last 21. The record over this period is unmatched. They are the world’s best rugby team.
@Fijian_Drua
@shanehussein
Would Drua ever be open to welcoming a player from another "Tier 2" nation if they could help add to their team? Someone like Rodrigo Fernandez of Chile for example would love to see playing Super Rugby with this team.

9pm tonight, our little nation unites as one to support our mens 7’s team in their quest for glory. Our country suffering, limited preparation, no contact with families since March…your sacrifices have given us hope & inspiration. Feel the weight of our people, we are with you!
A personal note dropped off to me this morning before our departure…for those doubting the impact of our Flying Fijians connecting with our people, please read…with a full heart and a huge debt of gratitude, thanks to the village of Welagi and the entire island of Taveuni…🥰
Very hard to do during the tournament, but it would be remiss of me to not thank
@FIJIWater
for the support during this whole RWC campaign…your support has allowed the team to prepare and dare to dream. Hopefully we have done you proud and this becomes a long term relationship!
Cleaning out the shed in Fiji for first time in 20 years and I found the kilt given to me the season I played in Biggar as a pup just out of school. What memories, farmers dances, jugs of snakebite, everything fried, swimming in the Tweed...ohh to be young again!
Thanks to
@WorldRugby
for their continued support/investment, because of this support we can make Wattbike purchases like this to help turbo charge our Olympic preparation!
Unfortunately, because we live in a world where we would rather tear a person down than see them have success…go live your dream and make every post a winner like everything else you have done if life so far…🙌🏾

Cleaning out the garage and I found whole set of jerseys from 1999 RWC stuffed in a random backpack, I was about to chuck the bag directly in the rubbish…lucky I checked! 🇫🇯🇳🇦🇨🇦🇫🇷🏴
So grateful to GingerLei Ginger Beer Fiji for very generously giving me some samples along with a bottle of spiced rum.
Love when local businesses are out there making quality products, get out and try their product.
Tonight is going to be very “Dark & Stormy”!
10 years in Paris, 1 year in Biarritz and 3 years in Australia...new schools and friends left behind you have never once complained or made it harder than it already was. Layla you are a beautiful soul and I couldn't love you more, enjoy your new best friend!
2020 has been a tough year for everyone to say the least. We are so proud our of our boys and we are looking forward to them taking the field today against a very strong Georgia team. Thanks for all the support and kind messages, Fiji loves you all back 🇫🇯❤
An amazing story…last July in NZ with Flying Fijians he was diagnosed with an bone infection in his hip. First few days he was critical, spent a month plus in hospital, he lost more than 20kgs and was told he potentially couldn’t TRAIN for up to 24 months…
It is not just the words, it is the man that the words are coming from that mean so much…you epitomise the best of everything that is Fijian, pride, humility, empathy, strength, selflessness…you make me want to be a better man. Genuine love to you and your family my brother. ❤️
Few great men left in the world today. Those who truly serve with genuine love & class speak less, judge less, give more, too busy doing good helping others get better.We ain’t perfect but we keep chasing.Vinaka vakalevu my brother. I’ll go to war with you any day of the wk.❤️🙏
Just been handed a folder with a list of all my international games by Chris "Sarge" Jansen, the referee stats guru from Palmerston North. Some amazing memories in those 109 test matches. Very special.
It’s funny the things that imprint on you while in a 15 week campaign, driving through Nadi and “Au Taroga Lo” comes on the radio…that along with “Lei Lusi” were the two most played songs on the team bus, brought a tear to the eye! 🇫🇯🎶❤️
A common question I get, does it piss you off when a Fijian plays for another country? The answer is NO, I am very proud! I see the struggle, I understand the need to secure their families future. Hopefully soon we will be able to provide those same opportunities, here in Fiji...
I would like to formally welcome our new technical coaches into the

Under the guidance of Vern Cotter I believe we have a dynamic young coaching staff that challenge and get the best out of our men!
Anywhere within 5m of try line, defending teams should be holding up ball runners and dragging them back into the in goal…instead of trying to hit ball runners back, goal line drop out is an absolute win for defensive team.
What a day, 20+ years in the making…we are about to have our first Super match in Fiji involving OUR own Fijian franchise…what a mission to arrive where we are and thanks to all of those that contributed in getting us to this day. Supporter’s near & far rise…Toso Drua ❤️🙌🏾🇫🇯
The funniest thing about today was not needing to check for updates on the Scotland vs England match on the way back from Aviva Stadium…the roars from the packed pubs on the way back told us Scotland were doing very well!
Key take away from RWC is that rugby union needs to seriously address 3 issues:
How to respect referee decisions.
How to win with humility.
How to lose with dignity.
Most people in real life are kind of good with this but on social media everyone has to be a dickhead?
Always huge love & respect for you brother…you have been a catalyst for a new way of thinking & professionalism within the Pacific…hate will always hate, but more importantly knowing you and the boys are loved is all that matters…🇼🇸❤️
Thank you for the messages of support. Thank you also for the hate mail. We are all passionate about our team 🇼🇸 and we weren’t good enough.
Some people will never know the sacrifice. But that’s ok. I know why I’m doing this. We will continue to fight.

As the first group of Fiji Water Flying Fijians departs tomorrow for Europe, I/we owe a huge debt of gratitude to our supporters for the love given to the team…although we depart our shores, we take 900k+ people with us on this continued journey…🇫🇯🇫🇯🇫🇯

Venue for my test debut against the All Blacks in 1997, all I remember is scoring the first try and running back past half way with all the boys yelling “we are going to win”…next minute 71-5! 🤦🏾♂️🤣

1 professional team that we have waited 30+ years for, 30-35 professional places per season, an abundance of talent that we can not contract…I make no apologies about protecting our pathways to our national team, we worked so hard to build them.
Happy 17th birthday Layla, so proud of the beautiful, strong, independent young woman you have grown into…the world is your oyster, may all you dreams & wishes come true…❤️😢
