Thank you Bjorn Lomborg for your insights - how to get the most benefit by investing in Best Things First. ACT was chuffed to host Bjorn and Roland from Copenhagen Consensus Centre at Parliament this week, to present to around 80 guests. BCR key to good decision making!
I'm proud to stand with NZ's Jewish community and Israel. Today marks 183 days since Hama$ broke a ceasefire, killed over 1200 innocents and took 100s hostage.
Set them free, send them home now. Am Yisrael Chai.
New Zealand has a proud history of protest and ACT will always defend free expression. But Canterbury University students shouldn't have to put up with ignorant protesters occupying a place that's there for them to be able to retire and quietly study.
We are the first society in modern history to reduce our travel speeds. Rather than look at opportunities to improve the efficiency of the road network, this backwards thinking is slowing the movement of freight and people.
New Zealand's Jewish community is looking to our Institutions and representatives to uphold the rule of law and stand against anti-Semitism.
I am proud to say I stand with Israel and our Jewish community. Am Yisrael Chai.
Labours RMA reforms are gone. 5 years wasted effort and time. ACT is working with our Coalition partners on a reform based on property rights, not harming others' enjoyment of their own property or harming the environment
The only climate extremists are Greenpeace and their mates in Labour and the Greens. A ban on using our own energy resources means importing more coal from Indonesia. I'm proud of ACT's role in ejecting this dopey policy from the lawbooks.
Calling for a boycott of certain businesses is not a crime, but Halal Kiwi's anti-'Zionist' rhetoric is really a thin veil for antisemitism against Jews in New Zealand. That is unacceptable and they should stop promoting division.
This kind of vandalism does nothing to win anyone over to Palestine's (or Hamas's) cause. A great thing about New Zealand is that our democracy allows countless avenues for legitimate protest. This is not it.
Accusations of genocide by ignorant protestors are similar to the "blood libel" used to "other" Jews for millennia, and make them vulnerable to harassment and violence in our community.
The University should have this group of cos-playing boujie-jihad!s removed immediately.
"Effectively banning people from using fossil fuels is virtue signalling on a global scale using other people’s money.
“ACT says you can use cheap and effective fossil fuels if you want and you’ll pay for them through the Emissions Trading Scheme."
@nickofnz
Nick a few years ago, we met at Whale Bay and chatted about the things we love about that special place.
You know I'm serious about improving our environment - my first job was at a landfill. Our policy ideas might differ, but we share most of the same goals.
The Coalition Government is working hard to recover the 6 wasted years with this fast-track for major projects. Next up RMA reforms to make it easier for Kiwis to build homes and farm followed by replacement of the RMA with new laws based on enjoyment of property rights.
The government will be moving forward with a fast track one stop shop consenting and permitting regime for infrastructure and other regionally and nationally significant projects. This is part of our 100 Day Action Plan.
In New Zealand Jews deserve to feel safe, but Halal Kiwi is targeting businesses and individuals because of their support for Israel and Zionism, the concept that Jews should have a country to feel safe in after the pogroms and Holocaust of the 19th and 20th centuries.
.
Advocating for a Jewish homeland is not the same as being complicit in acts of war People of different backgrounds and beliefs live together in relative harmony in NZ. We should never take this for granted.
The arrogance of Tommy Parker knows no bounds. Emptying all the ALR cash buying buildings to try and stop the project being cancelled….In what world do you have the ability to do that when you don’t have an approved business case to support it?
This needs far greater investigation. The deal was pushed through on Wednesday - a $33m unconditional agreement to buy a building as part of the Auckland Light Rail scheme…a scheme the Nats say they will scrap. Why now? Why unconditional? Who wins?
@actparty
climate policy is affordable and realistic. The Zero Carbon Act has to go - Climate Ministers should not have power to intervene in every aspect of our lives.
Net zero by 2050 will be delivered by the private sector using technology, not rules and bans and shaming.
ACT wants to slash and burn the Zero Carbon Act, alongside a swathe of other initiatives. Does Climate Spokesperson Simon Court make clear how they intend to go about it?
#NationNZ
Gary has got this all wrong.
A key driver for me to enter politics is a better environment delivered by setting limits, then letting businesses get on with managing effects.
Market-based tools could also help more efficient resource allocation.
Newshub climate activist campaigns to stop people from reducing emissions!
The energy industry, Climate Change Commission and James Shaw are keen to use carbon capture technology to limit emissions
ACT says what exactly is the problem with that?
I attended a solemn vigil in Auckland tonight to support New Zealands Jewish community and the nation of Israel. Standing with my friends to condemn the horrific terrorist attack by Hamas.
#istandwithisrael
Biofuel mandate was a flawed Labour policy that would not reduce NZ emissions by a single tonne of carbon, but would definitely have added 5 to 10 cents per litre to fuel.
Hearings were underway this afternoon - What a huge waste of time and money.
Labour lost the argument on Three Waters, so they resorted to spreading misinformation about rates increases in a cynical attempt to garner some support.
Both Local Government Minister Nanaia Mahuta and Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern have rolled out the scare tactic - 1/6
The Land Transport GPS announced by
@SimeonBrownMP
is the antidote to the anti-car disease pushed by Labour-Green.
Soon Kiwis will be able to get places on safe modern roads, paid for by the road users. That's normal in other countries
@JulieAnneGenter
National (Act/NZFirst) Govt’s policy statement on transport is extreme, irresponsible & ineffective.
Places with the “best roads” according to Simeon Brown got there by making it easier for most urban people to get around without a car. The exact opposite.
Talking to Ryan Bridge on the

about the terrible state of our highways under Labour. ACT research shows claims to NZTA more than doubled since 2018, from 284, to 550 already in 2022. And, NZTA spent $45m on consulting to lower speed limits. How about fixing the roads?
At the vigil in Auckland tonight for Israel. It was a very moving, sombre event with a big turnout, even though it could not be widely publicised due to security concerns.

ACT's RMA spokesperson,
@SimonCourtACT
, has been one of the most vocal opponents of the Govt's RMA reforms. We spoke with Simon at Fieldays to hear why ACT is opposing these reforms and their solutions for our current planning and infrastructure problems.
Looking forward to debating the folks who glue themselves to the road on this moot - "be it resolved, Governments should lead the fight to reach Net Zero."
See you at Otago Uni for a fun debate over the future of the entire planet
@damienmgrant
Love a good debate, but feel like you get to hear both sides? The FSU 2023 Debate Series is tackling complex issues, bringing sharp minds from different perspectives to make their case- and then you get to decide.
First debate is this Wednesday in Dunedin- come along:
@IsobelEwing
Nobody is talking about spending public money. If an energy company figures it could save on carbon costs by investing in carbon capture, ACT says it should be free to do so.
Thanks to
@MTA_NZ
for the great questions and hosting the debate. ACT is listening and ready to cut through red tape and costly compliance so your members can succeed.
ACT is ambitious for New Zealand, we aspire towards a modern, thriving economy with world-class infrastructure. With private sector financing and expertise to bring projects forward, we can achieve that
Labour takes West Auckland for granted.
I asked Transport Minister Michael Wood why Waka Kotahi have built a speed hump on the Te Atatu motorway off ramp?
Ans - to slow down the traffic passing a Bus Stop. On the off ramp.
Let that sink in.
The current RMA seeks to integrate land use activities and protect the environment - this has not worked. The Coalition will replace the RMA with a system based on enjoyment of property. I shared some ideas how this would work with Brent Edwards at NBR.
2/6..that rates will increase by seven per cent if Three Waters isn’t enacted. These figures have been found to be inaccurate and they should apologise for misleading New Zealanders.
funny who you run into when you’re out and about on your wheels.
it seems the all-powerful cycle lobby has infiltrators everywhere… 😲😬

Wellington business and residents are united in opposition to LGWM plans to turn the Golden Mile into a wasteland. ACT stands with these people who care about their city. ACT would scrap LGWM and return the focus to efficient and safe transportation.
Big day yesterday on the coast supporting Minister Jones’ announcement of the Government’s Draft Minerals Strategy.
Producing a critical minerals list is a key action in this strategy - an ACT coalition commitment policy I led on as Energy & Resources spokesperson.
Young people like Sophia need a safe place to live where their physical and neurological needs can be met.
And that's alongside other young people, not a rest home.
Laura Fergusson Trust and the government need to find a solution urgently.
The phone is off the hook between Wellingtonians and the bulk of WCC, but Central Government can still do the right thing. ACT would cancel this project and go back to basics.
There is nothing in Labours Bills that would make it easier to build water storage and irrigation.
Adapting to climate change will require more water for dry periods, and infra to control floods.
Only iwi and hapu will be able to set direction for Water Service Entities which must respond and give effect to Te Mana o Te Wai statements. Communities and other water users, even councils, will 9nly be consulted after the fact.
Three Waters and He Puapua. Despite the protestations of the Minister, the recommendations of the controversial He Puapua report are deeply embedded in Three Waters, including via the Te Mana o te Wai statements.
Quite a surprise to see The Post running an advert for ACT
(I won’t be voting for them but every single one of these items looks appealing and beneficial)
Thanks TARMAC for bringing the frontline workers to the conference to share their stories. Road corridor operations can be delivered more efficiently and safely - its going to take a Real Change led by

for being part of the political panel at TARMAC '23 & to Sir David Carter for being our moderator.
The session was widely enjoyed & covered an array of topics of interest to our industry.
Adapting to changing climate has been the lowest of the low priority for the Green Labour government. Shaw committed to delivering a Climate Adaptation Bill to Parliament this term. Shaw announces he is flicking the problem to Select Committee. F A I L.
Crown Pastoral Land Reform Bill meant to enhance the inherent values of high country land, leased in perpetuity to farming families since 1948.
But farming is not included as an "inherent value".
4/6.. Instead of just taking assets, ACT has an alternative Water Infrastructure Plan. We have received detailed feedback from Mayors, many of whom support all or some aspects of the plan.
ACT’s Water Infrastructure Plan would:...
5/6.. Provide for councils to enter voluntary “shared services” agreements, gaining the benefits of scale, while retaining local ownership and control
Establish long term 30-year Central Government-Local Government Partnership agreements to plan water infrastructure upgrades
6/6.. Establish a PPP Agency to attract investment from financial entities such as KiwiSaver funds, ACC, iwi investment funds, etc.
We can improve the current system, but we don’t need to do so through state-mandated centralisation and we don’t need to lie to New Zealanders.
3/6..The government has failed to listen to anyone in any substantial way. The only good news is these reforms have a life expectancy identical to the current government. Under ACT, they will be gone.
Prebs had the hardest job in Government, convincing the public and Cabinet that a bit of competition might deliver better services as well as value for money. Thank you Prebs 😊
The responsible Ministers Megan Woods (Energy & Resources) and Michael Wood (Transport) should apologise to Kiwis for wasting their time and money, and to their own officials who they callously threw under the biofuel bus today.
New Zealand’s transport system is going to continue to suffer as long as it is dictated by anti-progress climate policies. Transport policy needs to be focussed on transportation.
Auckland CBD is a ghost town after three months of a harsh lockdown.
ACT wants the land border around Auckland gone, and reopen NZ on Freedom Day - 1st December.
It's time to reconnect with NZ and the rest of the world, like Australia, Singapore and India are doing right now,
The stories I heard made clear that a reformed resource management system based on property rights is similarly critical. As Resource Management Reform Under-Secretary, this is a key focus to get things moving for the minerals sector and beyond.
Labour and the Greens have been deeply irresponsible, but they have been caught out.
New Zealanders don't accept their attempts to mess with our constitution.
ACT will continue to hold them to account and ensure they don't try to do so again.

Auckland cycle bridge looking in doubt. Govt. considers scrapping it.
Grant Robertson said that if the Govt. can bring forward the second crossing (tunnel) it should do so.

Transport Minister admits happy to take $ from road users, but won't build more roads in Auckland, instead wants to change the way we live and work!

I've obtained consents for and attended hearings in my roles as a Civil Engineer.
I've argued against Council planners insisting on conditions which make it harder to build infrastructure intended to improve the environment.
And knees deep in streams sampling and testing water...
The Natural and Built Environments Bill is the RMA on steroids, removes democratic accountability by handing planing functions to a co-governance Regional Planning Committee, and includes 18 conflicting outcomes. ACT would repeal it.
@JanetMackinnon7
In response to my Q to Minister of Transport, half is spent, the other $180m remains unspent.
So even with money in the bank, projects are stuck in planning and consenting.
Aucklanders stuck in traffic costs $1.5 -$2B per year.
ACT solutions are here
Net-zero carbon 2050? The ETS can do it alone says the CCC.
With the ban on new coal boilers, either the Government simply does not believe its lying eyes, or they are virtue signalling in the most cynical way.
Sign the Petition for better Climate policy.
Third world Northland.
This is the detour used this morning while the SH1 Dome Valley was closed with yet another slip. The morons at Waka Kotahi have no idea at all and endanger more lives using unsuitable roads for detours. Tahoua/ Kaipara Flats to SH16. Its a goat track!
Nanaia Mahuta tries Three Waters Jedi mind trick at Question Time "the Bill as passed does not contain an entrenchment provision".
Nothing to see here, move along?
